We got 2 decent picks. We may well find/develop a superstar with either of those. Don't forget, Dane Swan was pick 58. You never know.

I cannot see how anyone can be anything but proud at the way Melbourne have handled themselves to this point. We have not potted the kid all year and offered him the benefit of the doubt. We have stayed true to our overall list and offered the best reasonable offer possible and not got into a pissing contest with GWS. If I had heard that we had agreed to pay Tom $6 million or even offered him a 6 year deal I would seriously be concerned about the people calling the shots at our club. Schwab and McLardy handled themselves strongly yet graciously today and the proof will now be what they can negotiate behind closed doors for his departure.

Scully will be good, I doubt he would be great and would not be suprised if we end up coming out on top with this deal in the long run.

Agree - FFS we offered him 5 years! With a potentially bung knee. We could do no more and GWS only upped it to 6 years over the weekend according to CS.

We were powerless, but at 1) least they paid more than they might have had to if we had not made an offer and 2) as a result we MIGHT get better compo.

I just wish they asked Tom 1) Who within the club he did speak to about his decision (he indicated he did) and 2) aside from the money (which he admited was a factor) what other factors were in GWS's favor (if he had have said young list I would have smashed my radio!!).

Goodbye Tom, hello future for MFC. One that is at the MCG, with big crowds and lets bloody hope, many premierships!

Move on, CS handled it well. Its the system and GWS exploited it perfectly. We made them pay through the nose, hopefully this contract will hang like an anvil around their necks. I have seen time and time again in US sport (and we are heading down that way) how one contract can tie up a clubs ability to attract new players. If we offered him anymore that we did, we would have been foolish.

We have Trengove, Watts etc.

It is exciting.

you must be feeling a bit of a [censored] after telling us all year how honouorable the kid is and that we were all being sucked in to media hype

few wasted posts there eh

I thought he would stay - so I thought more of him in that respect.

But the "lying all year" question is yet to be resolved or proven either way.

It doesn't really matter though does it?

He has chased the money and we move on, I am looking forward to trade week and the new coach.

I don't really want to utter the two words again.

Scully is now back to being an Agent of the FBI for me...

Why should anyone feel like a "[censored]" for showing belief in a demons player? As it turns out he made a dash for the cash, but all of us who supported him up until yesterday, have no reason to feel bad at all. I for one would rather see a culture of supporting our players as opposed to running them down at every given opportunity as we see so often on this and other forums.

I almost dropped my saw at work today when $cully said one of the reasons he joined GWS was because he was looking forward to playing with a young exciting list.

Weren't you already playing with one? Don't treat us like village idiots mate, this is the part where u lose respect.

If you going to take a presser statement so literally then you are responding like the profile you dont want to be treated like.

nice work ox.. i hate how melbourne supporters rip on this man.. love your work

Huge tick to the OX for his interview on SEN last night. He asked the only question we wanted that no-one else had to that stage and as an opening for the session.

Clearly he KNOwS Scully (or his reps which is the same thing ) had done the deal and did not get the honest answer he wwas looking for and knew should have been given. He offered to give Scully the names of his 3 sources off air. Scully rejected the offer. Instead the Scully repsonse was a standard media management tactic of 'how dare you not believe me'...

Ox then absented himself really from most of the remiander of the interview.

Class all round OX.

Tom Scully clearly isn't the most intelligent lad going around. His VCE score will attest to that. But don't try and pull the wool over everyone's eyes Tom. We know the way you went about it all year, trying to avoid responsibility of your actions and continuing to try and spin your web of lies is fooling no-one, just your integrity.

If you had any self-respect, which is becoming more and more evident that you don't (you have put your reputation through the mud all year, now you're just ripping it to shreds with continual lies), you would have told us the truth.

Am i upset that you have gone, no. Because i don't want someone of your calibre anywhere near my club. I'd look at recruiting Fevola before you. The only reason i am p!$$ed off, is because you lied through your teeth to Jimmy. The one man who truly deserves the truth. He defended you all year and you have just spat in his face, not becuase you decided to leave, but because you continually lied to him, to his face.

I'm not a religious man, quite the non-believer, but i do believe that each is entitled to their own. I take great comfort from the fact that "God" who will no doubt be declaring Jim as his BFF when the time comes, will make sure you rot in hell. The only problem is, our club represents that organisation, and i'm pretty sure the dark prince won't even allow you to come within a million miles of that place either. Your fate is to rot away in that Great hole of Western Sydney.

AAAAHHHHHH, to repent is bliss (from a first timer, lol)

Also think Dermott deserves some praise for asking the question "Did your mum pick out a room for you", when Tom was talking up the GWS accomodations!

Love the Ox always have always will.

I was always of the opinion that the Dees had a chance of keeping TS until I went to Melb in June and had a fairly long conversation with the Ox. After that convo I was convinced he was gone.

I did read somewhere on this site of someone saying that the Ox did not seem to support Melb. This is so far from the truth its not funny. He still very much loves the Dees.

Bring on the new coach and season 2012

That was me DemonOX. My issue was that anytime throughout the year he seemed to kick us while we were down. I have to explain though, the only time I see him is on that Channel 7 footy show on a Sunday morning, and while it is a media job, I get nothing from him in terms of his support for Melbourne. Then, I think there was an article in the Hearald Sun during the year where he bagged the cr@p out of us. And on AFL Game Day one day, Sheedy got up the Club, and he just sat there a copped it.

I would like to know if he is involved with the Club behind the scenes. Going to a game here and there doesn't count. I saw Neitz at a function at the Gold Coast game and he was just fantastic. I appreciate that he doesn't have media commitments like Ox does.

As your name suggests you are a big fan, I'm expecting total disagreement. I would be interested in the view of neutral supporters though.

I have two mates who have met and spoken to David at reasonable length.

In both instances the Ox did try to find out whether they were a fan of MFC or not.

one of my mates is a some-time presenter on a different show on SEN, he is not a MFC fan. The Ox didnt hold back on Daniher and MFC in general and how he had no mates except for one or two who had played for the Demons. The club didnt support him when he had his troubles. The Ox was not a fan for a long time and he doesnt believe he is now.

My other mate who is a performer who fairly regularly donates a performance to the club, believes the Ox to be right behind the club and supportive.

They both think he is a great guy. I have never met him other than a quick handshake.

Ha. Yeah...

I don't know him. Loved him as a player as we all did. Loved his arrogance.

Has an issue with not thinking through what he is saying but who doesn't?

With regard to the Scully stuff - I had no problem with what he said, only the importance that a few had in what he said.

With regard to MFC concerns he is harsh at times but why not?

He's a Demon though, as we all are.

I didnt think it was that obscure that DS will be quite guarded in his musings on the football club if you are a Demons supporter.

Everyone has different opinions and we are no different also look at Franky_31 comments in regards to his 2 mates.

All I know is when we spoke he was very passionate about the Dees.

As for bagging us well I think nearly all posters here at one time or another have had a go at the Dees about something thats got up there nose. It can be very frustrating following the Dees and sometimes you need to vent but at the end of the day we still love the club and want to see it succeed.

The one thing that has never been adequately explained to me by all those believing that he was signed yonks ago and we should have believed the media is the continual esculating years and dollars on offer.

So here's the GWS strategy from last October - they signed Tom back in last years window but did a slow leak to the media - first we'll leak $800K over 4 years ( that was the first reports) - then we'll leak from April to August - $5M over 5 years and we'll have one more little leak in the last 2 weeks of $6M over 6 years. Yup - that makes sense.

I can assume from those who want me to believe he was gone from last year is that the offer was always $6M over 6 years from day one and all the dollars and years reported by the media were plain wrong ( including the ox who mentioned the $5M over 5 years.) The only way this makes any sense as being done and dusted long before is if the first offer was always $6M over 6 years.

We all want to point to indicators - would you not suggest the upping of the GWS offer from $5M over 5 years to $6M over 6 years indicated that either he hadnt decided or if he had decided he was wavering ? Why would you up the ante again ? MFC was never going to match the reported $5M offer.

As I have said elsewhere - goodbye and good luck (Beamer - please put you Brock words into action on field next season) - gone for the money as opposed to Trenners who has stayed for the dream.

I believe GWS upped their offer to Scully a number of times, and I bet the 5 years becoming 6 was a very recent addition. Like nutbean I highly doubt their initial offer to Scully's management last year or whenever looked anything like the one he ended up with.

Still think Scully wasn't lying the whole year and that he made his decision very late in the piece. Still think he's a prick for leaving. Will still always inwardly boo him (and possibly outwardly) when watching the footy. Still very keen to move on now.

I think we all feel rightly angry and disappointed and bitter, because at the end of the day we have to ask WHY DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN TO US?

We take one step forward then we get stabbed in the heart with a money hungry kid getting paid so far over the odds we can't compete. It's disheartening!

We spent years in Shitsville and we seem to have arrived back there this year. It's been a terrible 2011, and to watch Tom's slimy pathetic excuses only tops that off.

But didn't you and Wolfmother tell us the figures were all lies and the sums quoted were no where near what we'd read in the papers?

On the basis of that I thought we'd only have to match the GWS offer of around $250k. He wasn't lying to his sponsor was he, heaven forbid.

What an idiotic post.

I certainly don't need or crave any affirmation from posters on Demonland.
