To be honest, i really liked scully as a footballer, in fact I purchased a no. 31 jumper this year.

So, i reckon the club should pass the jumper on ASAP.

candidates: Sam Blease I hope

Self interested yes, but the club should work quick smart to keep this heritage number on the back of a good 'true' demon

No - put the number in mothballs for a season or two. The whole Scully episode (if he does announce his GWS signing that now looms imminent) has placed a shadow over this famous jumper that should not be tolerated and never repeated. Sam Blease is a great footballer but he would feel like the second choice which is unfair so put no. 31 away until someonje has "earnt" it.

I am sure there will be a deserving enough draftee than will fit into the #31 jumper.

Time to move on and cheer the new breed.

Sam Blease will wear no. 17 after his late father.

Non-negotiable.

The No. 31 jumper is cursed. Personally i would retire it...... permanently. Never to see the light of day again.

1 very famous, and now one infamous player (from our club's point of view), have worn that jumper and turned their back on our great club and walked away.

It no longer holds any great honor IMO and i'd be more than happy if i never see that jumper running around on a MFC player's back ever again.

Nor should any player be burdened with it in future.

That is to give Tom Scully an importance at the MFC he doesn't want and doesn't deserve.

He played 31 games FCS.

Give it to another good young player.

Don't decide until the eve of the season.

If we get a good young mid in the draft/trade week then go for it, or give it to Nicholson, or wait a season.

Don't retire it.

Thank goodness the sculrat's finally gone. It's hard to imagine how unsettling his refusal to show allegiance to the playing group all year has been. Unlike Trengove, who is a shining light by comparison.

Remember, MFC added hugely to Scully's pay cheque at GWS by picking him no.1. Trengove was equally deserving and could easily (and with hindsight, deservedly) have been our #1 pick. Scully has hardly repaid any of what MFC (and us supporters emotionally) invested in him.

Give the jumper to someone who'll appreciate it's value and add to it. Quickly move on, and get this horrible little era out of our minds. #31 was too good for Scully.

I wish him well as a footballer playing in the badlands for the next 5 or 6 years in western Sydney, what a waste. But MFC needs a playing group passionately committed to the jumper, and we're better off without rats in the ranks.

Agree with eveything here Maldonboy. I wouldn't want it just becasue T$ left, I'd want it because the club were excited enough about me as a player to give it to straight up. I would like to see Jack Viney play a year, and at the end of a rising star season, have the honour of number 31 bestowed upon him as just reward for hard work and effort. And we all know that Viney ain't gonna go running after $$$, he's Melbourne through and through!

Disagree. Why give Scully any significance for his brief and inglorious stint at MFC. We gave his brand value by choosing to take him #1, then Bailey put a valuable 2 years of training & teaching into the young player. He repaid us very little, and I suspect was a very incohesive influence all year by his refusal to announce his intentions. Barassi's jumper was far too good for him.
