GawnWithTheWind 604 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Just interested to see what everyone thinks, I think Stefan Martin or Jack Watts has it wrapped up. Martin for me.
Sir Why You Little 37,450 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Just interested to see what everyone thinks, I think Stefan Martin or Jack Watts has it wrapped up. Martin for me. Todd Viney and Garry Lyon would go close for this years award.
Rogue 585 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 When I saw the topic of this thread I thought Watts, but Martin does have some claims on this too. Jamar's injury really has been the making of Martin. I agree that it's down to these two.
Eth 4 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Went with Jones in the end. We were comparing him to Moloney at the start of the year...he's really stepped it up. I reckon he's made a late surge for the B&F.
Yokozuna 1,004 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 It has to be Martin. At the start of the year he was not in our best 25, let alone anywhere near a regular. He could not consistently hold a mark or make a big impact. He has now become a permanent player and has been in our best on several occassions. Jones has iproved, but has been a good player for a long time, while we always new that Watts would eventually mature into a very good player.
Deeoldfart 8,200 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 I went for Martin in the end because of consistency over most of the season. Watts would be second on this basis, and I think Bail may have outstripped them both if his season hadn't been curtailed by injury. Trengove and Tapscott might also have attracted some votes if they had been included in the poll.
Nasher 33,655 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Very difficult to go past Martin. His transformation in the ruck when Jamar went out had to be seen to be believed. Watts has come on in leaps and bounds too, but I'd say his increase in form has been more incremental where Martin's was sudden and sharp.
hardtack 11,106 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Jones stepped up from what was generally a very good season last year, but Martin came from absolutely nowhere to a starring role. Martin easily... despite the fact I think Mr Consistency Jones probably has the Bluey just about sewn up.
Trisul 674 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Really like him (Martin). He still can't hold a mark like he should but he's taking a lot more of them. Perhaps given his previous injuries, and Jamars this season, it's more a case of an opportunity to shine than improvement. At least I think so. His ace is his speed / agility / hand-eye (frame doesn't hurt). We saw that years ago. Certainly impacting more games. I'd go with Watts.
deeflog 679 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 no brainer, Stef Martin. I had basically written this guy off, but for him to produce what he did this year, has totally taken me back, and bloody good on him.
Trengove the Magnifique 9 23 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Martin. I'd heavily argue Martin is the most improved player in the entire competition.

Kento80 83 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 I had to think about it, cause I reckon Jonesy is a very, very close second. But in the end it had to go to Martin. IMO he was gonna be trade bait at the end of the season, but has absolutely secured his future, and good on him.
mrtwister 652 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 I'd have to say Martin because Jones has moreso maintained his performances by being more consistent and solid while others around him have been poor and inconsistent. Martin has actually improved his performances. Watts has also improved but still has lulls where he isn't influential at all. I think a thread/vote for the Most Deteriorated would be a very interesting and closer vote.
daisycutter 30,004 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 I think a thread/vote for the Most Deteriorated would be a very interesting and closer vote. Sadly I think Aaron Davey would be a lay-down misere
Nasher 33,655 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 IMO he was gonna be trade bait at the end of the season, but has absolutely secured his future, and good on him. Forget about trade bait; if Martin's year this year was like his year last year then he'd have shoved Matty Warnock and Addam Maric out of the way for first to be delisted, and his career would've been finished. He was definitely on the rocks at the start of this year, that's what makes his improvement all the more spectacular.
jayceebee31 768 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Sadly I think Aaron Davey would be a lay-down misere Unfortunately true.

Harrisonrules 273 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Improvement is one good thing, but the impact of that player is another important factor. ie. whose improvement has had the greatest impacted on the team performance.
Rogue 585 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Sadly I think Aaron Davey would be a lay-down misere I agree.

Can't argue with that at all Nasher, it is definitely one of the more stunning turnarounds I can remember.
