Schwab in the gun

Maybe thats what green was laughing at on the news tonight

That was a bad look.... I wasn't impressed at all. Especially from the CAPTAIN!

Jimmy was meant to be the man who unified the club.

Yet he couldn't ever stop alleged infighting between Schwab, Connolly, Bailey and the players. These aren't past board members or players either, these are professions who we pay (with our membership $) to work professionally. What was the result of the review at the start of this year, decisions should have been made then.

It hurts me to say this but I'm disappointed that Stynes (and McLardy) couldn't have stopped this situation (whatever it is).

Chalk and cheese Green's reaction to Trengrove's. Green laughed it off; Trengrove looked distraught. Looking forward to Grant Thomas' analysis on Footy Classified tomorrow night re addressing MFC's lack of leadership which is his hobbyhorse subject.

I noted that as well. Green is not a Captains a$$hole

I love that everytime we're in crisis, somehow supporters think that Garry Lyon will save us all.

WTF?!

This.

Where does this blind faith come from? For what role?

I noted that as well. Green is not a Captains a$hole

Unfortunately too precious & arrogant. Blames everyone else for his mistakes. That is Not a Captain. He's almost the complete opposite of Junior.

We need a real servant who'll put their balls on the line for the club. That should be easy for an insider to find who's got the credentials. I didn't want Green as Captain last year & gave in to the majority.

Glad it wasn't just me who wanted to puke at the TV.

WTF is wrong with Green? He seems to not give a flying f*$% about this club, or what transpired yesterday. It's embarrassing.

At least Rivers seems sincerely shattered in his media conference full of fluff and company lines.

By no means do I want him to coach or be involved in football decisions but I look at Jason Dunstall and I think Garry would be a great fit for our club in the same role. He's always been connected to the club why can't he just say okay I'll give it a shot for 4-5 and see if I can do something for my struggling club. If presidents can be in the media then I think we can find a role for Garry.

Also him saying things like he did yesterday about the club could be some of the issues at board level. They could be getting sick of him saying his piece about the club when he doesn't have any official role there. Some could be thinking put up or shut up because after all they are the ones putting there heads on the chopping block.

I think with Brad Green it is all nerves....and because of that he should not be captain.

Opposition notice..

Yesterday,we did have a reasonable group of players out there, allowing for inexperience etc., but it was the coaching panel who were in charge - not the CEO or any other admin staff - the bottomline is that there was very little evidence of tactics etc (and yes, I was there).

I'm as shocked by all this as anyone ............ and I don't know the answer ...... but disillusionment with administrators who threaten a coach you respect or operations managers who sack your captain with barely a thankyou.............. is every bit as likely to affect your commitment and concentration etc as frustration with your coach.

Why does the buck have to stop with the coach - why shouldn't it stop (or start) a couple more rungs up the ladder ?

WTF is going on? this is just so disapointing why do we waste so much energy on this club? Unfortunatly my blood flows red and blue and im gunna have to ride this out, but they owe us better than this shite....

You definitely were not alone with that reaction. We are bleeding and to see our captain smirking made me feel like throwing something at the TV. Losing is not funny. Being smashed for 4 quarters is not funny.

Greeny should go around to all the players from the '88 Grand Final and ask each of them what it felt like being involved in the biggest losing margin in Grand Final history at the time, a record that held for another 20 years. No players would be seen laughing the next day, let alone the captain.

In the States last year, a quarterback in the NFL was seen having a joke and a laugh on the sidelines late in the game when his team was getting flogged, the media went for him after the game!

I'm warming to the thought of Rivers as captain... but he also had a bit of a smirk during his press conference - not nearly as putrid as Green's though. :/

We could do worse than putting Moloney in for 2 years or Jones for 2, prior to one of the young ones coming on.

I honestly do not understand?! What has Cameron Schwab done wrong??

I think the players and the coaching staff need to take full responsibility for the insipid effort on Saturday.

Dean Bailey cannot be coaching the MFC next year. Nobody will bother to sign up to be a member if that happens!

I felt ashamed to be a Melbourne supporter. We were simply humiliated.

For AFL players to "not care" they need to seriously prove to the AFL community that they CAN bounce back against Carlton or leave the club. We don't need people at the club that simply give up if things get too hard.

I don't want players at the Melbourne Football Club who will not bleed for the team they are playing for.

Actions speak louder than words! ;)

Rubbish. He would have been well prepared for the media attention today.

He was asked if he thought the players let Bailey down and he said "yeah a bit I suppose".

A bit? Mate you lost by 31 goals! It made my eyes bleed and it should make your heart bleed too!

Bailey has to go. After 4 years I can see no sign of what it is that he has taught our players. Certainly it is not the art of defensive football which in the modern era is very much the building blocks of premiership success.

Schwab and Connoly I find a little hard to accept. If it is that the players are still upset over Junior and Bruce's exits I'd be distinctly unimpressed. Junior is one my favourite players but for mine he showed in 2010 that at 34 physically there was not much left in the tank. Bruce at 31 was offered a 1 year deal.

Whatever happens the decisions need to be made tonight otherwise it descends into even more of a farce than was presented by our coach and his assistants and the players at Geelong.

If Rivers is ever made captain ill vomit..! One of the worst offenders IMO. Bloody front runner who reguarly gets a towelling from good opposition , gives away undisciplined 50s for mouthing off at decisions and is lucky to get a regular game .

it's far from a knee jerk reaction... it seems there were issues this week before the game with Schwab, it's obviously had an impact on the team because we all saw the way they played...

yes, Schwab did a good job getting us organised, but there's obviously problems there, and it would seem he's taken us as far as he can take us... no doubt he loves the club, no doubt... but that's not enough, and if the players hate him which is the story that's being told, then he's gotta go... simple as that...

The day the players start determining who is exceptable as the CEO or Coach we are in deep poo.

And think that is exactly where we have landed.

If that is the case, then God deliver us because we have one hell of a problem.

I have no idea if there is a problem with Schwab or if it exists what it is

However If I was Big Jim I would be saying guys you run out on ground and I look after the off field.

Anyone who does not like that arrangement I am happy to arrange a Suitable tranfer.

If that is TS ( as some reports suggest ) then good luck at GWS we can use the compensation we are given.

The guy may be a No. 1 draft pick but he has played 1 season and a few games.

Are the imates running the asylum these days?

Media reports from Caroline Wilson and others suggest that Cameron Schwab will be sacked asap.

I find it very hard to believe after yesterdays sickening performance they would get rid of the CEO before they get rid of the coach.

Schwab is not responsible for the day-to-day management of the players or the tactics on game day. He may have caused problems within the club (and i'm not privy to any any gossip) but our problems are not with our profit and loss statement, or the balance of our accounts, or the new training facilities or the purchase of the Bentleigh Club.

Our problems are with our on-field performances this year and the development of our list by the football department, all managed by Bailey and his team.

It would be laughable if we make Schwab the first scapegoat of yesterdays debacle.

Are you my twin?

There's been whispers and uncertainty over Schwab's position for several months now. If it's true that he's being given the flick it won't be because of the result; it will be because they'd already all but decided to chop him anyway and this has spurred them in to action. It's not a good time to be in the bad books of those making the decisions.

I'd also add that as a CEO he's apparently involved himself very heavily in footy matters - this is evident in his Whiteboard Wednesday presentations. In that regard he has chosen to live by the sword somewhat.

Spot on!

Maybe all this pay dispute talk with the AFL has emboldened a few of the players, and has them thinking it is them that call the shots at club level!

It is the ultimate in contradictions for the players to come out and say they are right behind Bailey, yet deliver a performance like Saturday.

This infighting is [censored]!!! The members need answers to all of this [censored] MFC!!!!!

I have real problems in understanding why there may exist such divisions between a list as young and inexperienced as ours and the senior management. Certainly there is no sign of there being enough leadership shown by any player to actually consolidate a particular view amongst the team.

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
