  1. Here here Jaded. Nobody anyone's opinion on Cale Morton, it was disgraceful to hear MFC fans collectively booing a player wearing the red and blue jumper as they ran off the ground. The turnover was terrible as he had options on the boundary, but the booing IMO was not on.
  2. Some general observations from today's game: One key observation I made today between the two teams - Geelomg's pin point passing. How many times did they hit the lead up target with a drilled pass that gave our defenders no chance to spoil. Whereas if you look at our team, which players came close in to matching this high skill level? You would struggle to name them. I may be reading too much into this, but... Brent Moloney's body language is terrible. Not sure if to do with the leadership or what, but needs to lift his game. Leg speed: we do not have it! How many times did Geelong players burn us through the middle of the corner with shear pace.
  3. Ins: Fitzpatrick and Bennell Out: Sellar and Tapscott Jurrah needs another game or possibly two at VFL level to build up his match fitness Watts did not do enough to address the reasons for his omission today Close to game - Couch and Petterd
  4. My observations from the game (watched from the 20 minute mark off the 1st quarter) Jack Viney will be a star for the club. It was a sickening collision in front of us well into the 4th quarter. Would think Wojcinski will be rubbed out for some weeks. Up until that point, Jack look composed and was in and amongst everything. Glad I was able to witness his performance. Jack Watts - 4 goals and possessions. Rotated through the forward line and across the wing. Personally thought the stats flattered him. Felt he lacked the intensity to earn a recall and lacked awareness at times. Took ace mark in the last quarter whilst being held on to. Needs to bring the mongrel out in him ala Mitch Clarke's attack on opponents. Liam Jurrah - better for having a run. Did some nice silky moves, created play, spun out of trouble with magic, not sure he would have a match tank to play 4 quarters of AFL next week. Jack Fitzpatrick - Was impressed with his deceptive speed for his size. Played a very good game up forward and relief in the ruck with goals to show for it. Could be the week to bring him in against the Hawks. Did some nice things below the knees which I was impressed by. Jai Sheahan - had a very good game in defense in my opinion. Good size on the kid and pace, seemed to have good read of the play. Be very interested to see how he continues to develop. Jamie Bennell - he looks so good at this level. Nice run and carry out of defense. Needs to translate it when he steps up to AFL Level. Has the pace that could add something for Melbourne. Tom Couch - his dad was sitting near us for the day. A few calls from around us that he should be playing for Melbourne. Had plenty of the footy again and showed determination. Not sure he has forced his way in for a senior call up. Lucas Cook - took a very nice mark in front of us from a lead - was being rotated through the forward line so hard to judge his efforts, but he did a couple of nice things. When Jurrah and Watts are back at senior level, will be good for Lucas to be a presence in the forward line and see how he goes. Jake Spencer - okay sort of game, without being a clear winner at stoppages. Don't want to sound harsh thou as just coming back and he needs more games to build up confidence. Ricky Petterd - a few people around me were asking how come he is playing VFL and not AFL. He doesn't seem to be able to get a regular run at Melbourne. Showed a bit today with some passages of play. Rory Taggert - was involved in some good passages of play with some good foot skills hitting targets under pressure. Not ready yet for a senior call-up. Sam Blease - do not know how to rate his performance today... Has pace and when he uses it, he looks very silky and can cut through an opposition. Had a few turnovers early. Dan Nicholson - thought he had a good game and was involved all day. Was all over the ground as you would expect. Troy Davis - struggled in my opinion - looked the least confident of the Melbourne listed players and future Melbourne listed player in Jack Viney. Not sure where he fits in the pecking order. Kelvin Lawrence - have a soft spot for this kid. Not afraid to go in and showed that today with his attack on the footy
  5. No - David Wojcinski landed the bump. Jack was down on the floor for about a minute and then walked off the ground. Then walked around the boundary line to the rooms. Scorpions by 53 points - 25 min mark last quarter.
  6. Jack Viney was involved in a heavy collision going for the ball. Sickening collision. Walking the boundary line with a trainer and holding something in his mouth.
  7. Made the trip over for the game. Couple of my observations from today's game: 1) Disposal efficiency - terrible. During the warm up, players under no pressure doing a drill miss the target by a fair margin. The disposal in the game was no better. How do we recruit kids that can't kick a footy? 2) First 10 minutes was a high intensity where we seemed to quell the Eagles stars. Kicking errors then undid the early pressure and hurt us on the scoreboard. We couldn't maintain that pressure for long periods of time. 3) In terms of rotations and changes, I had the feeling early on the game was about damage limitation. Half forward playing up the ground to limit Eagles supply. We didn't have the skills to play this way as we kept giving the ball away. No amount of positional changes will help with that game plan when you can't hit targets. 4) Mark Jamar had a shocker and don't know where he is at. Cox and Nic Nat killed him. 5) Why did Bate start as a sub again. Would have preferred Green. 6) No excuses, a lot of umpire decisions in the 1st quarter were crap. West Coast was 1st to the ball, but some real soft frees. 7) Last week I thought a lot of our players were lazy and were not prepared to run. There was a reason that Eagle players were in open space, they were prepared to run. We weren't!
  8. Good section of Melbourne fans on the top tier behind the goals. Umpires have been rubbish, some frees to WCE there, but we are being murdered by the men in green today. Jones is putting in an effort. Game plan is not going to lead to us kicking many goals with our half forwards playing so far up the ground. Jamar struggling with his match-ups.
  9. Made the trip over for the game. Saw the team bus near the Swan River. In the top tier for the game tomorrow.

Caleb Hanie is the Bears backup QB. He was the Bears 3rd string QB in the NFC Championship game last year against the Packers. For such a big game he handled himself well. Threw 2 interceptions (one returned by BJ Raji for a TD and one that ended the game). Had a TD pass as well.

Also a Packers fan. Big yards given up again against Tampa. Poor tackling this morning didn't help. Listening to Aaron Rodgers press conference, he is the ultimate competitor. Hard on himself for the interception. Big Thanksgiving game on a very short break at Detroit.

No worries. In the early hours of Tuesday morning on One there are two good match up games: 12:30am - Steelers at Bengals - big test for the Bengals in an AFC North showdown 3:45am - Lions at Bears - big match up in the NFC North and race for NFC Wildcard position

For one of the first times in history I can remember, the talk in the States is all about tanking. Not a new concept that has been talked about, but in the past it generally occurs towards the end of the season. However with the possibility of Andrew Luck waiving his senior year and entering the draft, all the talk is should the Colts take Andrew Luck and groom him to succeed Peyton or should the Colts tank and trade Peyton Manning with the view of drafting Andrew Luck.

The Americans love their Friday night High School games plus Saturday College games that you couldn't extend the NFL beyond the traditional timeslots. Plus the big difference is the TV programming over there is very good during the 2 Sunday afternoon timeslots that the supporters over there wouldn't complain. The 2 Sunday afternoon broadcasters (CBS and Fox) do a great job of keeping you up to date on different games and a dedicated 24 hour NFL Channel.
  16. Great night. First time at the Best and Fairest. Largest crowd in the last 3 years. Great effort for big Jim to make the night. Mark Neeld spoke very well. Mentioned that we will have similar amount of full time coaches as the top clubs in the competition. Was asked not to make any big statements by the MFC in his 1st week and failed with the hardest team to play against comment. Told the players that he understands they need a break and asked them to enjoy it, but be ready for preseason training on the 31st October. Brent Moloney made a great speech. Challenged Colin S by saying that he should be up in the top 5 next year of Melbourne's Best and Fairest. Nathan Jones gave a thank you to Scott West for his time at the club. Loud cheers in the room when it was shown that no players received a vote from the Geelong game. Was surprised that Stefan Martin didn't finish higher in the count.
  17. Here Here I find it funny when you fill in the membership survey questions and they ask will you be more likely to buy a membership if we offer x or y. I will have a membership up until the day I draw my last breath. I am Melbourne!
  18. Ross was just asked by Rob Walls. Said that he learnt from Richard Colless not to use the media to basically grand stand and posture for position. He has changed management recently Ross said and that he trusted his management do the right thing. Contracted to the Saints until the end of the 2012 season.
  19. Bailey had to go. I think in the cold light of day when everything is done and dusted he will think it is best for both parties. He shall be remembered though for staying the course in 2009 and put rebuilding the MFC list first before his own job. Brad Green tweeted about an hour ago: "Our performance was unacceptable, the players take full responsibility... Be strong red and blue"
  20. Made the trip down yesterday and stayed until the very end. Arrived just before 1/4 time of the Casey match. Bought my ticket through the club and was in the 2nd Bay of the Wade Stand. The seats reminded me of the days out at Waverly on the wooden bench seats. Tough staying to the end. Waited to see the players walk off.
  21. You definitely were not alone with that reaction. We are bleeding and to see our captain smirking made me feel like throwing something at the TV. Losing is not funny. Being smashed for 4 quarters is not funny. Greeny should go around to all the players from the '88 Grand Final and ask each of them what it felt like being involved in the biggest losing margin in Grand Final history at the time, a record that held for another 20 years. No players would be seen laughing the next day, let alone the captain. In the States last year, a quarterback in the NFL was seen having a joke and a laugh on the sidelines late in the game when his team was getting flogged, the media went for him after the game!
  22. Sorry, to clear up the confusion. The players spoke to the board during the week. Caroline Wilson then followed that statement by saying herself that in her opinion yesterday's performance by the players was in a way a protest of what is occuring at the club, but not related to the coach.
  23. Tony Shaw and Robert Walls were shocked that such a thing could occur as would every other Melbourne person. She is reporting that all sorts of meetings involving Melbourne powerbrokers have been occuring in the last 12 hours. I believe the link is that there have been misgivings about Cameron Schwab's heavy involvement in the actual playing football side of things. Don't mean to put a TS comment in this thread, but just want to report Caroline's comments this morning on 3AW. She stated that Tom Scully would stay at the MFC if Cameron Schwab left.
  24. Listening to 3AW, Caroline Wilson has opened up stating she believes Cameron Schwab will leave the MFC today... Believes there is a high level of unrest by the players with Cameron Schwab and to lesser extent Chris C Senior players spoke to the board during the week. Made a comment that yesterday's performance was in a way a protest...
  25. Rocked up at the 25 min mark of the 1st quarter for Casey's game. Troy Selwood kicked a couple in quick succession when I arrived and the scoreboard at quarter time told the story. Fevola did kick goals, one was from a free kick for push in the back. However, would never want him representing the MFC. He spent most of the 2nd quarter by himself walking in the F50 with his opponent 30 metres away and at one stage his direct opponent had the brains to run up the ground and set up goals for Geelong. He seemed disinterested. Didn't see him on the ground after half-time. Cale Morton - no confidence. In the last quarter a backward pass in our F50 and under no pressure dropped the mark. All day though he hesitated, missed targets. Aaron's first game back was what you would expect from someone out of the game for so long. Had some nice tackles, but nothing to write home about. Joel Macdonald tried all day. The Geelong pressure was telling and he was caught in possession a couple of times, but he was trying to create some run.
