Had a phone call from the club.

I have previously given some money towards the debt demolition. I was asked if i wished to top it up by a sigificant amount. Was promised an upgrade of my "status "

I asked what for as I thougt we had "demolished the debt"

I was told it was for player retention. I asked if was for TOM was told that was part of it

My response was that I thought the club had completely miss handled the issue and I was not going to contribute to underwriting of a player who has yet and maybe (depending on injuries) never play a significant role at the club.

The club should have made the running on this issue not GWS ,Sheedy ,Mike Sheehan or Toms' management.

Again it shows me how completely poor our club management is and is symptomatic of the weakness in our current culture

Tom Scully on his own will not make the MFC team win. He should be offered reasonable payments for a person at his level of development. A million dollars a year demands Judd like performance. Tom is a long way of that level IMO and if GWS are stupid enough to pay it then the club must just say good bye to Tom and get on with it, focus and develop a great foot ball team.

I am not prepared to contribute 1 cent towards the Tom Scully retirement fund and the club shouldnt even consider it

Gee this Club makes me mad sometimes!

I think the club are doing really well from the outside. Your issue is your believe all the crap the media spits out at you. You have absolutely no idea how the club are handling inside. A pretty weak arm chair slag off at the club does nothing.

And I suppose you do?Typical reaction. I was merely pointing out the fact that the club is obviously seeking funds for paying players. Its my opinion. If you have some problem with a fact then please respond acoordingly. Its my opinion in response to a call from the club OK?

I'm behind you all the way jackaub. Think you've hit the nail right on the head and I agree with everything you said. You should get what you pay for and Tom isn't worth even half as much as the GWS offer! Plus it's not up to the supporters to dip into their hard earned to help the club. The membership and buying of apparel is enough. If they can't manage their finances and get their priorities right then it's their bad luck. Don't give them a cent mate!

Understandable for people to feel like this, but don't come on here complaining about the Tigers and their Tiger Fund that is designed to go over and above their debt and push cash into their footy dept and into luring a free agent after 2012.

This was bound to happen.

They are going to go to all their revenue streams and ask for more money.

It isn't great and we would all love to be Collingwood.

We are not there yet.

Personally, I would be more horrified if they didn't ask that question of fans, but that's just me.

I donated to debt-demolition and would be more than happy to donate more money to the club, so we could retain players or invest further into the footy department.

I had a similar experience a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was a little odd. It was about 6.30pm and someone from MFC called me asking if I would be willing to enter a draw where first prize was $40,0000 and second prize was some trip with the team and they were asking for a $200 donation. The reason why I found it odd was because

- The time, 6.30pm? Wouldn't these kind of things be done during working hours?

- The person called me from their mobile, wouldn't they use an office phone or even be in the office?

- If they are wanting money why would the first prize be money?

I declined to donate, if they came out an said it was for player retention I would of be happy with that. If supporters feel they can dig a little deeper to make more of a donation then I'm all for it, I'd love us to be like Collingwood! But personally I cant afford to throw out anothe $200 of genoristy after spending $500+ on my membership for this year.

I received this phone call as well, to my mobile during office hours. I receive at least 2 or 3 phone calls of this nature a season. It just appears to be a standrad part of their fundraising efforts.

The Iron curtain is not something the supporters built nor like. If they want more money they should be more upfront with the people they begging from. You know, something for, well something. give & take. 2 way street.

As an aside - lots of fund raising is done at this time - best chance of a striking you at home. Why do you think those horrible market research people call you during dinner ? 4pm - 7pm

That's fine to have your opinion but my opinion is that you have no idea about how to spot talent. Scully, in my opinion, will most likely be as good as Chris Judd if not better. For those that are saying that he isn't worth the money is a joke. Our club is crying out for a bonafide superstar and we have one and now aren't willing to pay him some extra money. Scully will be a 5-7 time all-australian. He has already shown he is a gun so there is no risk of him not being able to perform. His only risk is his knee.

So you believe the club should just Roll over and let players go to GWS?? How can the MFC "Make the Running" on this issue when GWS have such a larger Salary Cap than us..?

How have they mishandled all of this? What would you have done? If the club rang me about player retention, i would be very interested to help out.

2 words...Free Agency. Get used to it.

The Scully-Judd comparison has never made any sense to me. They are completely different players, Judd is a 190 cm strongman, clearance machine with blistering pace, excellent skills, x-factor, cannot be tagged, can turn a game on its head in one motion and is a leader of men. Scully on the other hand is a skinny 180cm handball machine, with sometimes quick pace, average foot skills, currently unable to shake a good tag and who so far has proved to be no better than a quicker Luke Power (who is still a good player, but no where near Judd). Oh and i can't stand Juddy btw.

Judd doesn't have exquisite foot skills.

Scully has explosive pace, and to say he is skinny and currently unable to shake a good tag is failing to look at where he will be in a few years' time. He will get bigger and he will learn how to deal with tags.

I think you're selling Scully short there.

Lol, exactly agree. Sculyl averaged 21 touches in his first season and now has come back from injury yet still managing to find the ball. Did Judd cop the number 1 tag when he was at the eagles? No. Scully has several times this season. I believe Scully is a clearance machine, i also think he is quicker, skills are about the same, scully has great reflexes and will bulk up. he goes just as hard at the ball as judd. Scully has some serious courage.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
