The funny thing about any "the latest greatest thing " is theres always another one around the corner. I have no doubt he'll be a very good player. I also have no doubt we wil have many OTHER very fine and very good players. Some we dont even know yet !! I personally and seriously wonder if he'll really be worth the huge money as offered by GWS. Hes obviously worth the 3 mill we've offered . Might the club becoming a little skittish about it al lthough when you see a trend in injuries arising ? Could be a passing thing... could be recurring. Suddenly a littel ( or big ) Question Mark arises. ( does for me)

Is Scully's real value to this club now the currency with which we can acquire other very good talent off of the back of compensation especially at a time when stocks are to quite good and access to pick them low ?

Are you sure you understand the ramification & the implications of what you are saying?

Nothing has really changed since the season began.

Scully is still waiting til the end of the season before making a decision.

I'm still confident if he is to go, we will be compensated sufficiently.

Either way we'll win.

Mostly now, the speculation should be the influencing factors and what his decision is likely to be.

More and more, I can only see this as a win-win situation for us.

If Scully is to stay, it will be for the right reasons, and would galvanise this young playing list.

With so much quality young leadership, I couldn't say for certain that he'd be captain, but he'd certainly be a likely candidate.

Money alone is not enough to make him go, in my opinion.

On the flip side, Scully is not the type to desert lightly - should his knee condition really be worse than any of us understand, he could make the educated decision to take the money and go... and in the process, help us dodge a figurative bullet. Possibly landing us more than even he is worth in return.

His scope for a long and successful career will be the single most important deciding factor here, in my opinion, and if he is unlikely to achieve that, it is actually in our best interests for him to go.

Que sera sera.

I now reside myself to whatever result may eventuate - I just hope the next 8 weeks go quickly.

Having written it I'm going to have to say yes . Strangely I don't often choose words by accident and this was no exception.

The idea expressed by A B that in a fashion this now is win- win is one I'd agree with. Stay is good, go is good. It's all the unnecessary crap in between !!

I get the feeling there are a few posters on here who have become so convinced he is going and gone to so much effort in talking up the compo possibilities and possible chronic knee injury issues, that they will now be disappointed if he doesn't go.

Not I.

But if he is to go, I think it will actually say more about his faith in his body lasting, than it will say about his character.

Such is my faith in the kid.

Not uncommon for people to prepare themselves for disappointment, even if unconsciously.

That said, it is also a possibility that information about Scully potentially leaving is deliberately leaked to prepare supporters for such an event. If he just upped and left at seasons end without any prior knowledge, it would create an uproar. Having it play out over the entire season will quell the flames somewhat if it should happen.

All hypotheticals of course, as is the gold standard in this thread. I still think he will be in red and blue next year.

Well put. It is also important to acknowledge that the 'realists' on this thread are not anti-Melbourne, anti-Tom or anti-anyone-with-opposing-viewpoints. The club is bigger than the individual, and the post is bigger than the posters.

Whilst my heart would like to think that the club is bigger than the individual, the reality is that is "yesterdays thinking".

As every season goes by and with the advent of free agency "the club is bigger than the individual" is and will become even more yesterdays thinking.

Pendlebury signing for one year - keeping him well in GWS sights ? is that him putting the club first ?

Is Daisy Thomas not signing yet putting the club first ?

Is everyone of Pavlich's contract negotiations becoming protracted and not being finalised until seasons end putting the club first ?

We are in an era of the professional footballer where demand and supply dictate what the level of equality exists between club and player in negotiations.

Whilst Matthew Kreuzer and Jordie McKenzie stand out like a beacons I still maintain that very few footballers do what is best for the club - they are doing what suits their purposes. It is more that the clubs and players interests align. (this only refers to players who have some bargaining power - players like Newton for example would take whats on offer ).

I honestly don't care whether TS stays or goes. In the big picture it won't matter. He's just one. What I do care about is our club being a Strong, Determined and well resources outfit that is not only competitive but accomplished. I would rather it laid out the path of it's success than react to others. There's a time for talk and there's a time for doing . The MFC needs to run it's race and not that of others.

Collingwood , Carlton etc don't put up with crap, nor should we.

It's win-win. Time to push the WIN button

RPFC wont be happy looks like the troops are deserting him. Looks like his argument is falling on deaf ears.

BB would not consider himslef one of my troops...

I'm happy with people thinking he will go, I am not happy when they claim he has gone. It means you are calling a Demons player something that we should not.

Anything outside of that is fine.

All will be revealed in mid-September.

No I dont think he would either. But he voices an opinion I would be fearful that gets quoted elsewhere. But hey ... each to their own.

I don't understand nor advocate that anyone is beyond reproach. When therein a jumper on the ground they have my support. That goes hand in hand with expectation. This side of that white line everyone's up for scrutiny. They're not gods.

Mate I dont need to be intelligent as you blokes ... if fact I never want to be as intelligent as you. If you get my drift.

Personally, I would be more concerned about the Tigers. Or the possibility the GWS could doing a deal with the Tigers. Sheedy has already come out and said something along the lines of "we will actively assist clubs get what they want, if they help us get what we want"

Well I must confess I have been wrong ... looks like the Tigers are not our major threat with a offer like this tabled by GWS.

I've never said he is going to Richmond. Read what I've said.

The prosecution rests your honour.

There can ever only be one winner in this competition every year. But some want success before they earn it ... others earn it before they achieve it. But you hit our very weakness bang on the head.

If our team is not winning ... guess what?

You dont win in this modern era until your business is a success first. Look at the most successful business in the AFL where do they sit. Look at the least successful where do they sit?

ahhh ... the winning comes first? No, no, no ... it took Collingwood 10+ years and many mistakes in between premierships.

ahhh ... Geelong ... the winning comes first? No, no, no ... again the successful business men came first in the modern era.

ahhh ... lets take Port ... When you undermine the successful business people in your organisation you pay the price.

The Teams you speak of above still won enough "BIG" TV games and Blockbusters to create interest, that is what i mean by on field success. i am well aware clubs do not always win the cup.

The MFC did not win enough games in the 70's to get any TV coverage.....that put us right at the back of the pack for at least 2 Generations.

Consistently high output onfield will expand any ventures started off field ten fold.

Misconception - yeah - they do have the same crap and put up with it.

Cloke two seasons ago - held the club to ransom against an Essendon contract

Pendlebury - only signed a one year contract to keep him on the GWS radar

Thomas - still hasnt signed.

Not to mention the various brain fades from Didak and Shaw. And then there is Malthouse.....

They deal with more crap than most teams.

What your point taking quotes out of context. Oh my god how clever, I could take anybodies sentences and twist them.

Interesting you choose one line over another. You choose to listen to what YOU want to listen too. Why dont you quote some of the second & third sentences.

So your honour ... I glad you enjoyed your little kangaroo court ... just make sure the bastards shot straight.

I think you'll find Cloke was quietly told to pull his head in. Daisy WILL sign. Thing is Pendles has signed. So it's for a year but the Filth got on with it they're setting the agenda.

Currently Tom is... There's a difference

Barassi joined Carlton, but he left the MFC to coach in the VFL and didn't want his coaching ambitions to undermine Norm Smith. He didn't leave to play for another club - although he was a playing coach.

I hope you understand the distinction.

No distinction required, someone is yet to point out the relevance of Barassi to the current situation. I fail to understand why it was even mentioned.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
