What a scoop, but as if he needed to admit it!

The only people who probably believe it wasn't staged are the robots at the MRP cahrged with disinfecting anything that looks slightly upsetting to the mother of an Auskicker.

His honesty makes a mockery of the MRP. The AFL won't like this, he might get suspended for bring the game into disrepute.

Plus 1 and tars all bombers with same brush, are they under instruction and if so by whom? Lewis and hawks will be ropable by this , new line in sand game next they play bombers

How do they justify the fact he has not been charged for staging?

Has anyone actually been charged with staging?

Catch22

We only (really) know he staged because he admitted it

If you charge him then no-one in future would admit it

Fair point, but the rule is there right?

True, and the AFL are.....well....the AFL....if you know what I mean

Let me guess DC.

They're in the process of tightening up the rules.

First things first though, third parties. Must look after the AFLfc GWSfc.

Oh yeah DC, legal things are suspended, while illegal actions go unnoticed (until the player outs himself).....

What a stellar and even handed organisation we have here  !!!

Two weeks for bringing the game into disrepute, what Lewis got.

If the AFL was the slightest bit fair, anyway...

Quite. It should be a cut and dry case

However I think it is a stupid rule that is almost impossible to administer (as in soccer)

They have the general 'disrepute' rule and this could be used for extreme breaches (whatever they may be?)

A player was suspended directly due to his actions, does that qualify as extreme?

I could pick out a few Melbourne players I have seen staging for free kicks this year, so I wouldn't take aim at Monfries too much.

At least he had the guts to admit it and look to fix it up.

The AFL need to crack down on it significantly, it is not as if it is hard to see it when it happens.

How dare you call them such horrendous names. They are obviously going for corrupt and one sided!

well the afl are saying that he wasn't suspended due to the staging and that contact (to the sacred head) was still there and the staging was incidental

don't shoot me i'm just the messenger

the afl are as weak as p155 on this one and you are right, someone was suspended over this and this confession at least casts doubt on at least part of the elements of the verdict and therefore must make the suspension unsafe

but i thought we agreed this was the unaccountable-change-the-rules-to-suit-anytime-afl

he should be fined

but it is hard. look at soccer. you might pick (accurately) 1 in 5-10

I agree, he should be fined or suspended for a week. But I could easily find more than 10 others that deserve the same treatment, including some from our own club (Lynden Dunn against North comes to mind).

I guess there is a bit of grey area, but there are plenty of obvious examples going unnoticed by the AFL.

Look at world football now, FIFA have never stepped in and tried to eradicate diving, and it has got worse and worse, and now has become a massive blight on the game. Please don't let it get to anywhere near this stage in our game.

all pretty true, but i don't think its a big prob in afl and no worse than its always been

theres really two types

A] exaggeration or demonstrative. player enhances the offence he thinks is there to make umpire notice

B] complete fabrication, just a straight out con.

not much you can/should do about A]

umpires should maybe get more involved with B]. maybe a warning or a free against. for worst examples the mrp could look at and probably fine for first offence

I'm not very happy though at having a specific rule as I don't think it is that big a problem. as i said before the general 'disrepute' rule could always be used for really bad examples. the game is getting sanitised enough

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm
