The sub is obviously between Blease, Howe and Bennell... Bennell has never been successful, and Howe deserves a full game but I feel it may be him?

Small Ground...will make it interesting as our gameplan must be tweaked to play on this Dump.

I would be surprised if it was anyone except Blease, although Casey had a bye last week - so does that mean he is slightly out of touch and needs a full game to get into the swing of things, or just throw him in the end so play on adrenaline for half/quarter of a game (assuming no early injuries)?

Not a fan of small players getting sub duties

IMO the perfect sub is Martin as he can play in most positions on the ground

I hope the Sub Rule becomes extinct sooner rather than later

And Jamar rucks for three quarters with no break?

My belief is the opposite of yours. The smalls make the best subs and I think Blease is the right choice tonight.

Narrow-minded comment, in my opinion

When you look at the makeup of a side, the majority of players are small-mid sized.

If you are replacing an injured player, by the numbers, you're likely to have to replace a small running type.

With the way the game is played today, if worst comes to worst, it's better to concede a bit of height than mobility around the ground.

Stef doesn't need to start as the sub. In fact, if he starts as the sub we have no backup ruck, so Jamar gets no rest until Stef is subbed on.

Just by being in the side, if need be, he can be moved into another position as the side adjusts when the sub comes on.

Fairly straightforward, I'd have thought.

The substitute rule will stay and has been a success so far.

    Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill.     Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.
