Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

My, you like your Boys 'Soft', Rrrrojic!!!

I can remember that we have had a few whipping boys over the last months namely Watts, Pettard, Jones,Maric, Bennell, Jurrah and now Morton is the latest and the list goes on, one has to remember that these young fellows have only played a handful of games (Jones the exception here) and are going to have their good games and bad but give them their 60 to 80 games and then lets knock them when they get to that level of games, guys like Bates to my opinion are now in the firing line but for hells sake leave the younger guys alone and let them develop, they are not going to be a Judd or Ablett in their early games of their career and certainly NOT every week.Yes they will play their good games and if Jack Watts has a bad game next week against Richmond is he going to be the new whipping boy (again)

Let's be honest. It's the spine that you can build a side around, plus ruckmen. We have Jamar and Martin. We have Frawley (a full back) and maybe Garland/Rivers as CHB's. we need to trade for a readymade big foward/draft a VFL mature age player to play that CHF or FF role. Jurrah isn't a FF or CHF, and neither is Watts. Green won't be in our premiership side. Fitzpatrick? hasn't played a game yet. Cook neither.

Because I wouldn't trade Morton unless the deal was too good to be true. He's become the new whipping boy around here quite unfairly.

Really?? I just fiinished watching the replay and could count on one hand how many good things he done. Turnovers, Well I'd better take off my socks. Morton is trade bait of the highest order.

Your right, we do have our whipping boys, as most clubs supporters do. But I also think your wrong about some.

I think to become a 'whipping boy', the player has to have done something BAD, or it's what they won't do. IMO it's RESPECT.

Some have lost the respect because they won't do some things that supporters expect as Non Negotiable. Like tackling and chasing with intent, and all the other 1%'s.

If your referring to Morton, he was dropped recently for not doing these types of things and not going for the 'contested ball'.

I'm one who is hard on this trait of soft players not going. And I've watched Morton, for example since he came over. My first impressions after his first season were one's of concern that we'd picked wrong, because he showed no interest in putting on defesive pressure or tackling or winning his own ball. He's changed 'Little'. I've watched him over the last month, do one or two things, contested mark and a tackle or something, but Few & far between.

Bennell, I have more hope for but not when we accept his not using his body, or mind to Harden Up. It worries me that we aren't more demanding of the defensive game equally on all our players.

I'm concerned we're spoiling them. Like so many players in the past who haven't turned out well from our development school.

Am i the only one who thinks that Dangerfield is over rated??? averages 14 possessions over his career and something like 15-16 this season..... can go but really does not get enough of it... needs 10 more possessions a game for me, and he would cost a hell of alot to get

We're a couple of years away from that. I reckon you trade, or pick players up from the scrapheap (Stuey Dew) when you have a number of veteran players who are on their last 2-3 years of having a chance to win a grand final. Our top-age players (25+) are only Green, Sylvia, Jamar, Moloney... and a couple of those could have 4 years left.

I wouldn't take either of Kelly or Goddard because their cost would be greater than their impact, in my opinion.

You disappoint me - I thought we could have some fun.

I'm St.Kilda - our flag window is passed. I'll trade Brendan Goddard to you.

Two options:

1. Any player on your list

OR

2. Your first rounder (say pick 16) + any player outside your top 3 (as protected by you)

I'm Geelong - our flag window has passed too (appearances can be deceiving). I'll trade James Kelly to you.

For your first rounder (say about pick 16) + any player outside your top 10 (as protected by you)

NO & NO.

The cost is too high for what they could bring to the club.

If I were to bring a player of that ilk and in that age bracket to the club, for that sort of cost, I'd want them to bring leadership and be able to positively influence the culture of the playing group.

Neither of these players are good leaders imho.

A mate of mine that i played cricket with Matty Atta, is absolutly dominating at the Northern Knights this year. Another that is doing well at the Knights is Nick Maric (Adam's brother?).

They could be good late picks, in this years draft... I'd be thrilled to see Matty running around in the Red & Blue.

Oh funny man.

If Dangerfield wants to come home, someone is going to get him, and I'd rather have him play for us, than against us.

So seeing as this is the Draft or Trade thread. What do you suppose you would offer in return for Dangerfield from Adelaide ?

(you said you would throw everything at them)

He looks exactly the same as his brother imo, will go top 30 (i think Sheehan has raps on him), sounds like the Maric we drafted.... great kick etc

I think he looks exactly the same too, but he looks better than Addam right now because he is playing in a lower league.

His type of player usually takes a lot longer.

Any combination of Bate, Dunn, Newton, Warnock and a 2nd rounder.

I don't think we have a pressing need for his type, that being a speedy hard-ball winner that only gets 15 touches, can only run in straight lines and cannot find the losse ball.

He's a see-ball-get-ball type.

Rule 1 of trading: if your target is any good you won't get him by offering our rubish.

At this stage we should not really be trying to trade to fill gaps. We don't know exactly where our gaps are. Our window opens at earliest 2013, and that's when we should be looking to trade in players.

There is only one trade we should be looking at this year: can we get one of GWS's 17yo trade cards, and use it to tie in Jack Viney? If the price is right, that would free up our first round pick in the 2012 draft. So what have we got that GWS want? And no, this is not another Scully post.

GWS will be loaded up on young talent after the draft, but will need some senior players to protect the young and provide a structure around them. They can't afford for all these to be marquee players. For a 17yo card, which they have to trade anyway, they may well accept the likes of Warnock and Bate. Reasonably competent bodies who can be moved on when the 2011 vintage of draftees are ready to rock and roll. Worth a try if anyone can stomach the thought of dealing with Sheedy.

And if you want a big gorilla forward, there is this bloke playing as Casey who may well go into the draft this year.

It would cost a bit. I don't know what, BUT,,, I do know this,,, It would any team,,, a lot.... so if Carlton were prepared to snare him for their midfield/forwardline, are you saying they can pay it/have him, & we'll go without?

If we're to compete for a premiership in 4 Years time, we have to make sure we stay ontop of the List heap, and not let others, 'Jump us'...

What that'll cost I don't know, but anyone can see a dynamic matchwinner with real weapons, from interstate viewing. I'd hate to se him with the Pies or the Blues/Dons.

Well for a start I'd look at a Morton,,, & IF we lose a Scully, I'd want someone powerfull to refill the spot open on our list. I'd love to get Patton, or someone equal to Scully, if he goes.... IMO,, Dangerfield will be a AA list player.

IMO, our midfield is still ordinary, ATMo... & if Scully were to go, I'd want to grab someone of HIGH calibre who has 3 or 4 Years put into them. We can't keep losing A list players, for draft picks...

In my opinion, you build a list through the draft.

Early picks used on best available, while trying to fill any gaps or pressing needs with later selections.

An eye must always be kept on the trade table, because good deals do come up.

But trade only from areas where you have a surplus of talent, or if an exceptional deal presents itself.

Such a deal includes other clubs overvaluing a player who you have begun to have misgivings over after observation at close quarters.

I believe Dangerfield falls in this category - if he is traded to Victoria, the team getting him will pay too much.

Do you know of any Gary Ablett jnr type clones out there AB? I'm talking draft now. Any classy movers out there?

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
