Tom Scully

Beat me too it Hardtack, although I was going to suggest *shock horror* that it showed the naysayers that Tom is not the social outsider many claim him to be.

I was thinking something similar for this photo that was tweeted by DemonsHQ that shows Scully on his own while everyone else is high fiving etc... obviously on the outer (or so many on here would see it as meaning).

More "humour", regardless of how bad, is needed in this thread.

Yeah laughs at me all the time... Got on here with him and Jack Fitzpatrick last year and they couldn't believe the amount of reporting on pre-season training, analysis of games they thought it was pretty funny that people paid them so much attention (you forgot they are kids)

Most of the stuff I post isn't news breaking and I wouldn't put alot of stuff on here that we talk about because everyone would have a heart attack that the kid might have an opinion of something that isn't the standard yes/no one game at a time answer. 'm just backing up the media profile with what I see in person as I think alot on here have smashed him because its not what they would do

Thanks Wolf for that. I appreciate that you are supporting him as a friend rather than an elite footballer and it makes your comments even more plausible.

I'm his elite player sponsor at the club

Mate ... you have done a great job. Hope your relationship with Tom at the MFC lasts for many years.

Credit to you.

And you do?You seem to think that the football department can pay a player a massive amount of the salary cap together with third party payments and it will make no difference to the attitude of the remainder of the group well I don't.

No I don't, and once again (amazingly) you have missed the point. I never claimed to know, what I am saying is that the club and those involved know what they are doing, and all the inner workings of the salary cap, you do not. Therefore, how can you attempt to say with any authority that it will have a detrimental effect on the players. You can't. That is the issue here. You sprout off like some sort of authority, whilst really you have no more clue what effect it will have than any other of us. It's not that hard to understand mate, at least it shouldn't be, however I understand that it could be a little difficult for some of the population.

Yeah, it would have been extremely difficult. When I say conversations with the leadership group, I am meaning general, not specific. Obviously there would be no mention of monetary values or anything else, but I would not be surprised at all if there was some sort of contact to try and gauge the general feeling amongst the playing group as to the whole situation. They're obviously not going to go and say, s"o Jack, how do you feel about Tom getting paid twice as much as you??" But maybe a sly chat, even just with Green to just get a feel for the general mood about the situation wouldn't surprise me one bit.

Is this said with authority or are you guessing like maybe I am?

Please if you are going to throw [censored] at me for making things up keep your own backyard clean.

Actually, it's funny you should say that... on AFL 360 last night, according to Mark Robinson, that is precisely what he (Robinson) put to Trengove, to which he got the response that they are completely ok with it.

See how I say "I would not be surprised", it would be obvious to any right thinking person that I am making an assumption. I am guessing. I am hoping. I have never said otherwise. Nice effort at dodging the issue at hand, but there is only one person throwing mud here mate, and it aint me. You saying "it will have a profound effect on the rest of the players at the club, mark my words" is not making an assumption, but actually saying something as if it is fact, even though you have no real clue. I have, on numerous occasions this arvo, asked you whether you have the indepth knowledge of the TPP for the MFC that they have, and you have predictably dodged that question and tried to discredit me. Unfortunately it is a conversation you cannot win, because I do not claim to "know", but only to have my suspicions. Try again mate, cause it hasn't worked so far. Or as a novel idea, you could try and answer the question of the evening. How do you claim to know that Toms contract offer "will have a profound effect on the rest of the players at the club"?

Funny thing that hardtack. Seems the 19 yr old players are much more mature about this than a bunch of middle aged people hiding behind computer screens. Who'd have thought

By the sound of things Tom Is an outstanding kid, unfortunately I'm afraid he's being forced to lie due to the system the AFL has created. It's a real shame what's happening, It leaves a very sour taste In my mouth.

Nothing can force someone to lie.

I would be staggered if he is lying.

But I guess that is the crux of the issue.

Reflects well on Jack. I genuinely see him as a future captain of this club. He strikes me as an educated, well rounded young man - and, as a result, his lens on contract discussions will be broader than most.

I have absolutely no fear about him seeking better opportunities at other clubs in due course. Why? Because he'll have a career after football and he probably realises the benefits that will flow from having played his whole career at the Dees.

He also strikes me as a team oriented individual. Probably likes having a beer with his team mates after a game - and, if so, I like that. I don't want automatons playing for this club - I want to see some passion/heart in our younger brigade. Love of club stuff.

Trengove, Grimes, McKenzie and Jack's mate, Luke Tapscott, seem to have the essential qualities.

Question for Wolfmother?

I like many really want him to be the next captain.

What Gubby Allen said on the footy show a couple of weeks back is an absolute crock s@#%t. GWS will not win the flag in 2015/16, despite the money they are throwing at players like Scully, Walker, Palmer, Ward, Thomas, Pendlebury etc. and draft picks it wont happen!!!

Powerhouse teams like Collingwood, Hawthorn, Carlton and Geelong all have btw 40 - 70,000 members, Strong sponsors, Strong corprate support, state of the art facilties and rescoures for players and top coaches. GWS will not have any of that, certainly not for a long time anyway!!!!

Next Skipper?I hope not.But I totally agree on your other points. The AFL is determine to waste money for 70 years on this farce.

This venture is as doomed as Port Adelaide, who actually have a flag from a footy state.GWS a more hostile place to Australian culture I have not seen.Expecting to be successful in this environment is delusional.I for one would never live in this [censored] hole, for any amount of money.

I thank my deity every day I was born in Melbourne, and can always come home to live.

Very philosophical.

I could give the same 'truism' about Schwarz or Stevens. Or their sources.

It cuts both ways.

I trust the parties involved who are on record.

And I will until given evidence to the contrary.

Conspiracies and conjecture are just that.

And I guess that's where you're safe. Because that evidence is unlikely to irrefutably emerge.

Even if he goes, your fallback is that he made the decision as stated at the end of the year.

There's no prize for me swimming against the current on this issue, which says a bit I think.

Anyone care to give me the top 5 reasons why Scully is worth this money/angst?

Pretty sure I haven't seen it yet.MFC supporters are crystal balling he may be Judd like?We are going to offer someone with 30 games $500,000+ per year.FOR WHAT?

Let him go,save the dollars for those who will make a difference and actually deserve the money.

I don't think it does.

I really don't.

It's easier to ready yourself and believe he is gone - become an optimistic pessimist (expect the worst so that whatever happens it's a good outcome).

I just don't see how rumour and innuendo can outweigh the word of a kid who may be naive (I would say he is), but just wants to win footy games and get the most out of himself.

He said that GWS had lodged the signed contracts of 3, possibly 4 uncontracted players from other clubs with the AFL towards the end of last season.

It is Barrett's understanding (and David Schwarz's and others) that one of these players is Tom Scully.

Exactly why he should not wait ... the "evidence" is unlikely to irrefutably emerge.

Nope it will be replaced by character assassination, innuendo & media speculation regarding Tom, Velocity Sports & The MFC.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
