Played really well for Casey when Gotch played him as a midfielder, which could be another dimension to his usefulness to the team. Not as a starting mid of course, but if our young midfield is getting physically outmuscled (which can happen against a mature-bodied midfield), he could add toughness & hardness if that's what was needed.

It's because he's so good one-on-one against a physically-matched opponent that he's sometimes asked to go against someone much bigger.

Joel Mac has some really good qualities.

Although I don't think he's best 22, he reads the ball really well in the air and goes hard at the contest.

I love his endeavour.

I love the bloke (in a totally blokey, football kinda way  ) He is tough as nails, marks well and isn't afraid to get down n dirty. And I must add he's a ripper bloke to boot. For my money he has been stiff to not play much. I know we need to get games into kids, but we also need to have the best team on the park too.

As much as he has some really good qualities, there are reasons why he hasn't played more. He's not very quick and his kicking can let him down.

Agreed, but there are plenty other players out there who have issues too, it's just that they are a bit more fancied.

Jmac keeps it real .Get some tough ball .Not too fancy .Respect .

100% agree - reminds me of Phil 'Filthy' Read. He played some good tough games for the Dees.

I didn't rate him. Joel Mac is, IMO, far better than Read.

Gutsy and smart. Kamikaze at times. Disposal lets him down occasionally but I reckons he's great. Refreshingly honest when interviewed by Matt Burgan. He seemed aware of the number of cliched responses that players normally give

I reckon he's been a direct and fantastic replacement for Cam Bruce and what his role across half back was. As has been said on here, his disposal and decision making can be a little suspect sometimes but overall he's been a very good pick up for us.

I think he's been better than what Bruce would've given us.

I agree 'Pates', has done well for a 3 year replacement for an ageing formweer competitor. Till Tapscott, Strauss, Davis, McDonald come through...

Jmac plays like a man

Even when the rest, every second week play like boys

He is a great asset to the club

WTF were Brisbane (think VOSS) thinking?

Easily,his hardness excuses errors.Softness doesn't.

Have a listen to his pregame interview on DeeTV. Is that a personality I see? Amazingly, he seems to be one of the only footballers with some originality and thoughtfulness in his comments. In this day of metrosexual, media trained robots, it's good to see that there are still some real people playing the game.

always loved the way he goes about his footy should be in the 22 every week.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
