Tom Hawkins

DEELIGHTED

Recommended Posts

I remember his first season well. He kicked 5 goals against us in his 2nd or 3rd game and I thought I was watching the next big superstar in AFL footy.

Just goes to show that a lot of players never kick on.

Getting back on topic. No thanks. If he came cheaply, he'd be worth looking at but just don't think he has the athleticism to succeed in the modern game.

I thought the Cats were carrying him despite his poor form and eventually decided they couldn't want for him to start playing good footy and dropped him.

Do you carry players into finals?

Between Marcus Baldwin, Nathan Ablett and Hawkins we're the go to team for the Cats to debut iffy forwards against safe in the knowledge that they will dominate.

I have real doubts over a forward that could not make an impact in a Premiership side with a midfield made up of Ablett, Bartel, Kelly, Chapman, Ling, Corey, Enright and Selwood.

If he has found it hard at Geelong, he aint going to find it easier at MFC.Father/Son great white hope that has come with big accolades but delivers little. A Kozi in vertical stripes.

I would not sweat our talent in the draft to get him.

+1 for me

Dermie commented on him recently. Said to become a great forward he'd need to be able to do much more than be just lead up in straight lines. Believes that's why the Cats have sent him back to the Magoos after much perseverance.

If i was granted a wish i wouldn't say no to having an 'instant' quality power CHF in the team right now though. Anyone seen a genie lamp around lately?

People seem to think that whoever we go after must be the next Johnathon Brown,Riewoldt etc How about someone who might just help improve a glaring deficiency

With Vardy now looking the goods at the Catters and Tomahawk apparently on the outer I think we should be looking to trade for him, big body forward and has talent!!! Thoughts??

Good Call!

If this bloke realized his strength which would then result in an increase in confidence he would be a good player.

Two words - "Lucas" & "Cook". A much better long-term investment IMO.

I don't think Geelong would give him up.

Look at their list:

Vardy looks good, but he'll be earmarked to take over for Ottens, who won't have long left.

Mitch Brown is a nice option for CHF, but you want more than one tall forward.

He's still relatively young.

I think they'll hang onto him for a while longer and cross their fingers.

Theres no way we are getting him if he turns up in a bra with whiteface on , pulling his pants down .

And he'd have to have those really important qualities that a big unco forward needs that he aint got .

Namely marking and kicking a goal .

If he was free maybe. Wouldn't give a third round pick for him otherwise.

This thread needs more:

Sorry loges, I didn't realise the finals had already been played.

(That, or you're talking about last year).

Look don't get me wrong I understand where you're coming from, hasn't kicked on like most people expected, just think he could play a role in an area where we are substantially lacking ( and other people comparing him to Newton are just not in touch)

Fair enough. I can also see where you're coming from and think Hawkins could be better than what's suggested in this thread but I think it's overstating it to say he's got a gig in one of the best teams. He only played so many games this year because they were hoping he'd run into some form. Prismall is another guy who was talked up a heap because he was on the fringe of a good side, but has not done much since coming to Essendon - he's still on the fringe (perhaps unfairly, but hey).

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
