Petterd (I think he deserves his call up after a couple at Casey)

Garland

Jamar (if fit)

Tapscott

Out:

Jurrah (replaced by Petterd, if he's not 100%, you don't play, if he is 100% you play at Casey)

Jetta (If injured, and ONLY if injured)

Evans (harsh, but limited opportunities)

Bennell (only because we wont drop Green, and I think the 4 players named above will be ins)

Would personally love to see Gawn start ruck, Jamar Full Forward, Martin CHF, Watts HFF.

I believe both Frawley and Jurrah are playing with niggling injuries. I would like to see both of them tough it out, I know that one is doing a better fist of it than the other but he has to work through it.

Keep him in the team.

OUT: Jetta (inj/OMITTED), Evans, Bennell, Morton

IN: Blease, Garland/Warnock, Petterd (!!!), Dunn

- Unsure what to do with Gawn?

- Jamar still a fortnight away...

- Tapscott one more week?

- Warnock and Garland fighting it out. Warnock is frustrating - most deserving of a call-up but struggles at AFL level.

- Morton is suffering... :(

You've hung [censored] on my post about including Gawn, Martin and Jamar, yet you are happy to drop Jetta if he isn't injured, and you wanted to drop Morton after he smashed Shaw?

In response to my playing the 3 big men, I stated my structure, and if you have a good look at Collingwood, they virtually have 3 ruckman (1 full timer and 2 pinch-hitters), which is basically what I'm saying we could have. Also, Freo are usually a tall side, of which McPharlan(?) usually smacks the [censored] out of us. If we go too short, he'll end up playing on a mid-size forward, which he can easily do, and will no doubt smash us again.

Instead of your typical Grade 3-maturity responses, how about list reasons why we can't play the 3 talls?

Clearly everyone calling for Garland to come back this week did not see him play for Casey on the weekend, he needs at least another week at Casey.

I didn't see it trout, but Garland would've been there for the run, and if 100%, will be immediately called in.

I took a racehorse to Terang one day for a gallop, he didn't win, but it didn't stop me from running in a mid-week metro meeting and he won that. Garland, like my horse, was better for the run in a lower grade and will come straight to the City next start.

As opposed to Scully?

He is one player that is too good to be playing at Casey, and as I said, if he is 100% over the injury, he'll come back this week.

Trout,garland was OK on Saturday.

I know Bailey says he's only been running for 2 Weeks, and if he's still short of a gallop, then he could also be used off the Sub: position. He'd be a handy Sub:

Edit: BUT, If it was a tossup between playing an underdone Garland in defence, Or playing Cook, in defence, I'll take Cooky please.

I would like to see Nicholson given a full run in the seniors this week. His form as a sub has been good and is deserving of a real crack.

If Petterd is going to get dropped to Casey and played in the midfield(presuming it was under instruction), and he ends up with 39 touches and shows ball winning ability, then he deserves to be given a chance to see if he can bring this at the G on Sunday.

Rudeboy, he has to adapt, he's not a power forward & never in a month of sundays will he ever be. He has to learn to play to the team strategies, and play closer to the ground style footy.

And he hads to learn to tackle. And chase hard. Otherwise he won't make it. Thats Simply the way footy is in 2011.

The floods and press have reduced the open spaces onfield, and he has to adapt to those things and play more physical footy.

Don't disagree with any of that. I just reckon he's better off starting much closer to goals where he plays instinctive football.

Morton holds his spot, definitely played his role on Shaw on Monday. I would assume he'd play a similar role on Hill this week?

I also think Petterd showed enough in Casey to suggest he has the hunger to play against Fremantle, he is far too much talent to be be wasted.

Garland I'm not sold on, didn't look too right for Casey.

Tapscott similar to Garland, I have serious doubts he would walk into the side after a injury forced layoff, he has only played a handful of games...

Jamar I would love back, but Martin and Gawn seem to be holding their own, and will do fine against an Sandi-less Fremantle.

Besides, after watching Fremantle playing against Essendon, they had a third man at almost every ruck contest, something Bailey will have to adress.

Hrrrmmmmm...

- Clearly you're wanting Dunny to string a few good games together in the VFL?

- I don't think Bartram's eye injury is severe enough for him to miss the Freo game...

- If Jamar isn't fit, Gawn remains in the side.

- Jurrah needs to remain in the team every week UNLESS injured. He can turn it on when we least expect it - too important and classy.

- Maric lucky to get a gig?

- Tappy maybe one more week? VFL??

Agree about Jamar, if he isn't fit then Gawn holds his spot for sure.

Jurrah I agree also, however I've heard a few people in other posts suggest he may be playing injued. If so give him a rest I say, otherwise I'd keep him in for the reasons you've given.

Maric, possibly lucky to get a gig, but at the same time was probably a bit unlucky to get dropped. With no Wonna or Jetta someone has to play the role of the crumbing forward.

Tapscott if fit I'd bring straight back no hesitation, his kicking and physicality will be a much needed boost, but if he's not right then I'd give him another week.

Bartram, I love his competativeness and tenacity. However similar to Warnock I think his disposal hurts us, I'd like to see Nicholson given an opportunity in Bartram's role.

As for Dunn he'll need to do what he did on saturday at least another 3 or 4 times to get a recall. With Howe's early form coupled with Cook coming along nicely, I have Dunn a little down the pecking order, ahead of Bate but behind a few others at this stage anyway.

Outs: Evans, Jetta, Strauss, Gawn

Ins: Rush, Garland, Petterd, Dunn

FB: Garland - Frawley - Bartram

HB: Morton - Rivers - J Mac

C: Trengove - McKenzie - Scully

HF: Sylvia - Watts - Howe

FF: Green - Rush - Petterd

R: Martin - Moloney - Jones

I: Dunn, Gysberts, Jurrah

S: Bennell

E: Cook, Jetta, Strauss, Gawn

Gawn has had his taste now back for more development in the 2's. He will be a handy ruckman for us, but it will take time.

Strauss is unlucky. He has the ability but can't seem to play well under pressure. Garland will come in for him.

Jetta has a future, but he is just unlucky to make way for a quality player in Petterd.

Evans needs to keep developing in the 2's and will get another shot soon.

Needs to play well:

Bennell - Was super against the dons, but went missing and was outclassed against the Pies. Need his pace from the backline.

Morton - You played well son, but you better not shirk the contest this week. You are one of the reasons we look soft.

Dunn - You won't get many more shots to get back into the team, you need to stamp your authority this week.

Petterd - You are all class, you shouldn't be playing 2's. Show us that hunger that shows us why you are our future.

Jurrah - Other things are on your mind, but when you are up and going, we play 10x better. Please find some form again.

IF fit - Jamar, Petterd, Tapscott and Garland play. They probably aren't all fit though.

Would love to find a way for Nicholson, Evans and Cook to play (yes, I know we can only pick 22!)

Morton must be the most polarising player at Melbourne at the moment! I know Shaw had a marginal impact, and Morton had a couple of nice highlights (especially on a close TV view) but at the ground, his wandering around the outskirts of the contest, his spending almost a quarter as if on a slow train track up and down one wing, refusing to go when not first in line...I'm sorry but I spend almost as much time yelling at Cale as I did at Ray Chamberlain!

Watts and Morton are filling similar roles at the moment. Watts is doing a better job. He's not going to end up in this role but for the moment, he's running harder, kicking better, and his close-in skills are, well, close-in (good too).

For me, Morton is the first player dropped this week. Jurrah probably close behind. I know lots think Morton played well and he won't be dropped but I just can't see us losing much if he was dropped for Nicholson, even Dunn, Petterd et al...

Um... ok billy... whatever.

Tall Defence - I agree with all you said.

Dunn is the interesting one. He is one that should be forced to string multiple GOOD games together in the VFL before being recalled.

What exactly did Nicholson do wrong to not get a recall? Could've used his speed and skill execution out there today. Would like to see him come back.

Anyone know why he was replaced in the side at the last minute? He's not listed as injured, is he? I thought changes to the team after the deadline (which was Sat arvo for our Monday game) could only be made due to a new injury or illness. Anyone know the rules?

I'd go down the list in roughly this order:

Jamar (fit?)

Garland (fit?)

Petterd

Tapscott (fit?)

I'd also like to know what's up with Nicholson.

I saw the Batram in for Nicholson as what many of us expected - the importance of Clint to the team.

But I think Nicholson should get a full game at Casey (or AFL if they are keen on that) as he has played about 4 quarters of footy in three weeks.

Jamar can sit in the goalsqaure for a few weeks. Petterd has done his time. Garland is required back there.

Out - Gawn, Jetta, Evans

If it were up to me, I would give Blease a few games. Not sure about throwing Tapscott straight back in. If so, Strauss out.

Edited with Evans instead of Nicholson because you cannot take out what isn't in.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
