I reckon he'll play. Curnow's still not ready and as if they would drop him against Melbourne. That Geelong-Carlton game was high intensity. He'll play Friday.

However, some of the Blues fans wouldn't mind him missing given the reception he received for putting on the red sub-off top.

Sorry Gotzy, just want to bring you back down to earth. Gysberts may well turn out to be a great player, but at the moment, he is far from one of the best clearance players. It would be argued that he is the best clearnace player at Melbourne, I personally have Moloney and Sylvia way ahead at this stage, but that doesn't mean that they are the best in the comp. They are far from that, wlthough Moloney is possibly in the top 5-10.

I doubt I'd have Gysberts in the top 20 in the competition. People need to realise that Gysberts has shown he has the potential to be a topline player, but he is atleast 2 years of consistent footy from being judged any higher.

I wouldnt have him in the top 20 in the comp either in fact far from it but my point is that his clearance work is outstanding and hes up there for that skill alone (his clean hands at the stoppages,ability to breakaway is top notch)

I bloody hope he plays. Not only does that make Carlton a team of 21, but I want to see Moloney run through him.

I get the feeling he won't, though. From all reports he was poor against Geelong, and Carlton doesn't seem to like messing around with its team. If someone's not performing, they get dropped.

I dont mind him either and i concede that he gives his all week in week out. But as you can see to make a trade successful you have to be prepared to give something half decent up (ie we wouldnt be able to use Newton in a trade). As ive stated many times Jones is at best a very very good c grader and he is playing at his maximum potential at the moment. If we want to get a key forward or an explosive and fast midfielder we would need to be prepared to perhaps use jones as we have lots of similar players that are ahead of him (Moloney, Sylvia, Trengove, Bail etc)

This has been a pearler for MFC....a pearler. Gysberts will have a fine AFL career. Brock's days are numbered in the AFL and his body battered from the little AFL he has played.

Grimes for Johnstone equally as good

Anyone suggesting we should trade Jones needs to stop snorting white powder. Stupid idea. Yes he has the occasional brain fade and gets caught in a tackle or two but he has been consistent and strong with a good efficiency rate this year.

Brock is a good footballer, reads the game well but is slow. Apart from all the journalism speculation, there is still a place for slow-ish people to play our game. Bartel is not quick, he is simply a great player. Brock has had one game back after long-term innjury. If Carlton give him 3 weeks I reckon he might show a few people how wrong they have been. Having said that - Gysberts is a gem and this was a win-win trade for the Dees.

So - Grimes for Johnstone, Gysberts for McLean. I reckon Bate or Morton will be our next trade win.

As I recall it, everyone was saying last year that Jones was playing at his maximum potential and this year he has taken it up a notch with his vastly improved disposal and in particular, his kicking. As far as I'm concerned he's a required player and should not be entertained as trade bait at all.

I hope they play him.

True. But had MFC meandered on the timing of the McLean deal, Luke Ball was soon to suggest he was coming onto the market. While history says Ball was always going to Collingwood, he would have been a tantalising prospect for the Blues and unwelcome distraction from closing the McLean deal. Given Collingwood was publicly going to deal pick 28 to get Ball, it would have lead to the repricing of McLean lower.

MFC were spot onto to close a quick deal of pick 11 for McLean. An absolute steal. Ratten (MFC midfield coach 2004) and Riley (MFC assistant coach for a number of years and coach for half of 2007) should have known better about McLean. They did a truly dumb deal that Curnow was starting to cover the hole.

Thank you, Chunk embraces some of the concepts in which we are lacking. He takes responsibility, sometimes too much but he is heading in the right direction. He is proving that he is teachable, possibly the most important attribute in a footballer.

As far as I am concerned he is as untouchable as Frawley and central to the culture of the team.

Quick deal alright. Seems like it was dealt in early September it went through that quick. MFC had made sure the fax machine (or network; email) was all new and warm upon the bell ringing. They rehearsed it for 3 weeks, 5 times a day, every day. They even put a night shift crew on to rehearse putting the papers through.

They had back-up IT crews on stand-by, 69 Print Cartridges for the fax machine on stand-by. And the FD went through a 2 week course to get the deal complete within the first 5 minutes of the bell ringing.

Real quality stuff. You don't just sit back and wait 4 days to get it done for a pick 11-McLean deal. It's all systems go.

Yet Carlton were wondering what all the MFC fuss was about when they saw all the IT back-up staff leaving the building once the deal was done...go figure Blues.

You need to ask why he wanted out. It isn't that simple. He wanted assurances that the club would not provide.

Brock would not be getting a game ahead of Jones and Moloney in career best for or a more efficient (yet physically weaker) Gysberts at the moment. Jetta?, probably not either at the moment.

Given MFC were heading for the PP and No 1 draft pick and were angling on Scully and Trengove, the writing was on the wall. MFC offered McLean a substantially reduced $$$ contract for two years. MFC had clearly stated the intention that McLean was no longer a key central player in the future. And Brock realised it too. When Brock announced he wanted to go to Carlton, MFC moved fast and secured a soda deal. Of course it was a great deal by MFC.

Its ironic that a fit McLean would only be a back up midfielder for MFC given the injuries. Gysberts is already best 22.

Yes we cannot afford to be sentimental at all...some of our "loved" older players are not good enough to play finals football, but i did see good signs last saturday.

That is the way I read it.

In his time however I did like him.

He was not afraid to go and get the ball and I can still remember his deliver into our forward line.

I hope he does not play friday night.

I would struggle watching him get back into form against us.

X MFC players have had a habit of doing that over the years.
