Joeboy, think you (and some others) need to watch the replay re: Rivers. Was good today amongst a sea of [censored].

I think Dean Bailey will be lucky to be at the club in 3 weeks time. We have Carlton, Essendon and Collingwood. I cannot see how we will get close to any of them, particularly with our long injury list. Come end end of the Collingwood game, the season will be mid-way through, we will be out of contention for the finals (in reality, maybe not mathematically), the club will know full well Bailey will not be re-appointed next season (I think this was the case a few weeks back frankly), and therefore they will part ways and appoint Todd Viney was interim coach.

If the club cannot lure Malthouse or Roos, my gut feel is they will try to get an ex-moderately successful coach to act as a director of coaching to Viney next year, perhaps someone like Rodney Eade if things turn sour at the Dogs - you would think a coach without a flag in 14 years of coaching may be considered past another coaching gig - and Eade will probably realise this and move on. Though I have a hunch that Roos may have already given an informal heads of agreement to take over. .

Warnock-bad decision making

Jones-heart and brave

Bartram-bad decision making

Watts-what a superstar

Gysberts-very good game

Bate-had little impact

Frawley-was solid throughout

Sylvia-has elite qualities

McKenzie-playing into form

Petterd-no defensive pressure

Green-moments of 2010

Maric-very skillful performance

Moloney-continued effort throughout

Jurrah-needs higher intensity

Rivers-was really quiet

Macdonald-tough but clumsy

Newton-never play again

Martin-improved ruck performance

Tapscott-hopefully is ok

Davey-very very soft

Jetta-always gives all

Evans-promising first game

Warnock and Bartram especially give me the shits when they kick sideways or try and attempt to do stupid things in the defensive 50 by hospital handpasses and indecision regularly. We cost at least 4 goals from basic mistakes in our defensive 50.

Jurrah please have a greater impact and play with more intensity, its promising that he can still 3 on an average day, Lj will destroy some teams if he lifts his work rate and also his teamates kick to him rather than Juice.

Finally Newton.........PATHETIC effort, this better be his last game ever, never have I seen a player with no defensive pressure, was wandering around the ground like a space cadet and how can you miss from 5m out!!! A soulless and heartless effort, there is no reason why he should be playing, yet again has he failed and he prevents blokes like Cook, Howe, Mcdonald, Gawn etc from playing games , at least those blokes will give an effort

And I'm not saying he was a game-breaker like Chris Judd, but he was serviceable and certainly far from our worst. Why the attack on him in particular? Who would you have had in the side in his place?

Hardly attacked him, just thought the poster who said he was great and it was his best game for us was a fair bit off the mark

Green - showed some leadership

Warnock - effective and composed (usually)

Jones - continues to impress

Bartram - unusually beaten often

Watts - on the rise

Gysberts - position and awareness

Bate - had a go

Frawley - just OK game

Sylvia - hard and tough

McKenzie - better for run

Petterd - defensive skills required

Maric - just solid enough

Moloney - tried hard often

Jurrah - is he injured?

Rivers - played his part

MacDonald - not good enough

Martin - effort all day

Tapscott - another mongrel injury

Davey - should be ashamed

Jetta - eearned his place

Newton - NEVER EVER AGAIN.

Evans - quick and daring

I thought Jetta was solid all game. Really made a contest and used the ball well. One of his best games.

Green - better not great

Warnock - did his job

Jones - created, worked hard

Bartram - tried, but beaten

Watts - Nik Nat who?

Gysberts - becoming very important

Bate - a vfl player

Frawley - beaten but solid

Sylvia - the junkyard dog!

McKenzie - okay in return

Petterd - invisible at times

Maric - good, still learning

Moloney - never gives up

Jurrah - dreamtime to forget

Rivers - better than Macdonald

MacDonald - okay, but errors....

Martin - gave his all

Tapscott - will be missed

Davey - soft as silk

Jetta - best game yet

Newton - little to like

Evans - impressive on debut

Wrathchild, top effort IMO. I agree with all.

I didn't see much improvement from green at all.

Jones has the most overrated stats going around. So costly.

I thought Total Tools didn't sponsor anything footy related anymore....

Actually most played OK yesterday and we would have won but for 4 actions:

Davey squib cost us a goal

Juice missing the easiest goal in the world

MacDonald playing on

Davey 50m penalty

although the last 2 only cost us one goal so actually by this rational we still lose by 2 points..

the other part of the day was lost by our poor delivery into the forward line ie bombing it long when we need to kick to a lead..... did it 3 times when we should be passing to Green watts/ jurrah etc.. thats sylvia and Moloney to blame mainly.

Also the Chunk Special needs to go - he does that once a week ie takes em on and is tool slow - please no more Chunk!

Glad I'm not the only one that sees it that way.

Regardless, it's not that Jones' stats are deceptive, but rather that he is consistently underrated by many of the posters on these forums. He is a bloody good player, and while he may in time find it a struggle to keep a spot with the young midfielders we have coming, I don't doubt that he'll still be in the mix.

I think Jones has his limitations but the one thing I applaud him for is that he is not static. Bust his balls to run into space and give an option. When we have the ball and the player looks upfield and no-one is moving and I am yelling my guts out "GIVE HIM SOMETHING" , Jones is one that usually does.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
