I'm about to go to a Devils Advocates function.

Speaker is Todd Viney and a few of the players will be there.

Should be interesting and I hope to report on it later.

Any questions?

Will keep an eye on this thread with much interest WJ. Looking forward to your report.

Ask them why they are so [censored].

Joking. Will be interesting to hear from Viney regarding how the club is performing, on and off the field, at the moment.

Yes, please ask him what round he will be stepping into the breach as caretaker ...

Questions asked but not necessarily in the form presented above. An interesting evening and I came away feeling quite positive. Certainly, the club isn't shirking from the fact that the team's performance last week was substandard. I'll report in detail as part of my match preview for the Adelaide game.

Suffice to say there is a definite feeling among the players that it was they who let their coach down.

Thanks WJ. I was going to ask you to name 3 things what made you feel quite positive from the function ?

But I'll guess we'll wait for the match preview then.

PS. I don't know why I'm asking for 3 things; thought it might have been a good starting point and an appetizer for the review to follow.

Thanks for that WJ

If the players feel as though they let the coach down, i hope they go in hard for the rest of the season & not just for next sunday, which i am sure they will.

I'm not sure I can handle many more thoughtless sledges at the club.

We get your point, stop revelling in it.

I love the MFC but after 47 years of pretty much mediocraty i am kinda glad the sledges are now coming out.

The Melbourne supporter has been too quiet for far too long.

That said i am sure the function will be fantastic.

Now coming out?

I've heard these, and many more, sledges coming from even within the MFC ranks for as long as I can remember.

(Cue "yeah but not as much as since last Thursday rah rah")

Well you did answer your own thread...Look back on your own "I love this Club" 45, that was the first time i had seen you write in that style.

There's (unfortunately) a bit of truth in that.

The Pies and Bombers fans scream when things aren't good.

Yes exactly, and they don't stay down for long do they..that's why we all need to go on sunday and be vocal.

Yeah, it must be because the fans 'scream' when they're struggling.

I mean, it works at Richmond.

Uh... Really? Is that how theories work?

I just thought it was an exceptionally poor theory.

Idiot supporters baying for blood when things don't go to plan do not contribute to the success of a football club.

still trying to work out your agenda Artie...you have just lately rocked in and started leaving some interesting reading, i don't agree with it all but that's what this cyber room is all about.

I'm uneasy about those calling for Bailey's head, because I think it's ill-considered and unjust.

I don't buy into the hysteria and it frustrates me.

Baying for blood is not the answer, even if that is a common misperception.

And I find that you seem to promote the exact opposite.

I'm as passionate as anyone about the club, but I know screaming will get us nowhere.

In fact, I'm worried it will take us backwards.

That's about it as far as agendas go.

I don't believe that you have any great feel for the game and nor do I value your opinion on the merits of Bailey as a coach.

Other than your cries of 'torch bearers' and those being unjust, or counter productive you've really added nothing. At least you're contributing and perhaps you'll improve, but right now it's a trite offering.

Maybe you're right?

I'll try to offer something more to your liking next time Hannabal.

Just for you.

For what it's worth, I think you've become a lot more critical of late.

The dam seems to have burst for you, but it's too early in the season for me.

I think I see some of the worrying signs that you do, but I reserve judgement until I am absolutely sure (that Bailey's coaching is at fault, that we have a poor gameplan, etc.).

I do attribute a lot of our failings to pure youth, inconsistency and inexperience.

But I think they are valid reasons for the performances we have shown.

I am not Baying for Dean Bailey's blood at all, but it is now time for him to enter an unchartered phase. If he is too keep the job, he must improve in certain areas, i hope he does just that.

The fact that Jimmy is becoming "hands on" in the football dept does tell us that things are not set up properly there yet. I do not blame Dean for that, but the bottom line for this club to grow-we need some wins on the field.

i am gunning for Dean to succeed, but he does need to go up a gear-right now. And he knows it.

The tigers scream when their on the Prowl.

When they're down they slink away.

It's the board that starts screaming, and then commits hurry curry, or was that hari chrisna?

Anyway stuff it, its us that goes all polite and platitudes.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
