Do we deserve TOP 8?

Those first two wins were fairly nothing victories, they were against average opposition and we didn't look particularly convincing. Adelaide was different, we were all over them and we played with passion. We deserve to be in the 8 now.

I think that's a fair enough comment. After the first two wins I don't think anyone would have looked at us and said 'they're a finals contender', and certainly not if they'd seen the second half against Hawthorn or the West Coast game.

But we showed yesterday that we can play at a level that will be good enough to make finals. The key is to maintain that level, or close enough to it, for the rest of the year, and not to regress into the form we showed for much of the first 5 matches.

We've beaten Adelaide (home), Brisbane (home) and Gold Coast (away). The latter are quite terrible, so this just shows we're not a wooden spooner this year. Adelaide is a better scalp, but they're stuggling and it was at the 'G (however, we did smash Adelaide).

We've drawn with Sydney (here). I think that's a decent result, but perhaps doesn't mean we definitely 'deserve' a top eight berth at the moment.

We've lost to Hawthorn and WCE (away). I expected a loss to Hawthorn. WCE away is a maybe at best, so I'm not sure you can say that this means we don't deserve a top eight berth (however, we did get smashed by WCE).

Do we deserve top eight based on that? We're around the mark, anyway.

The next month or so is interesting - a shame the next two games are at Etihad.

Were they good coaches against Adelaide ?

Obviously thy were, the standard has been set. The Follow up games will tell a lot.

No it is actually great the next 2 games are at Etihad...Give the team incentive to not to get ahead of themselves.

We must win AWAY from the 'G.

1) I disagree the team would 'get ahead of themselves' if they were planning for North and St Kilda at the 'G. We might have to agree to disagree here.

2) I like winning, and I think we would be a better chance if we were playing at home.

50% success rate for the remainder of the season will give us 11.5 wins which should be the minimum to earn 8th spot. Not unrealistic despite all the powerhouses out there and our soft draw helps.

No but I will take it.

Looks better than our normal position over the last few years.

We have beaten the sides in 12 13 and 17th positions.

I will take a 90+point win any day however lets not get too carried away.

If we are still there after the QB game I will start shooting my mouth off.

Perfect reason why it should be a top 6

Perfect reason why it should be a top 6

2 reasons why it will never again be a top 6

- That would mean another 3-4 sides that would would have little to no chance of playing finals by the half way mark

less interest lower ratings etc.

- Less finals games for tv, lower ratings Less money for AFL.

More likely to be a top 9 come 2012

Well now you can write St.Kilda out of the equation.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
