Fox Sports AFL, a dedicated AFL channel, will be available at no additional charge to sports-tier subscribers.

Awesome. Although, that won't stop me from observing any price fluctuations or sudden changes, nor looking for a better outcome. Finger.On.Pulse.

Been researching. Good news:

He said the AFL coverage will be included in Foxtel's standard sports package. He would not discuss pricing specifics but said there would be "no major uplift in price".

From here

So that is $60 a month?? I have never had foxtel before as i hate giving money to Murdoch, and Fox News in the USA is so Bad!!!

But with 9 games live plus all the weekly footy shows that are on, that equates to $15 a week (Packet of cigarettes in reality).

Probably closer to $70.

The thing about foxtel is, if you have it, you always complain that it is crap and not worth it. But you just cant seem to get rid of it.

Foxtel Prices:

$60 a month if you want to watch the footy. +

If you are getting it for the first time there is installation which is about $100 up front.

OR

Do what I do. I had Foxtel/Austar for 2 months than I cancelled.

Than I got my parents to bring me there Foxtel box and I plugged it into mine.

So all they have to do is order another box which is $13 a month then all I have to pay is $13.

Does this work?

My biggest concern is if 7 do, indeed, show the four free to air games. What a shame that would be.

I dont think they can afford to do that given they have spent $475million on the rights to those. They will need to sell 1 or 2 games to either 10 or 9.

Thanks for the heads up Great One and Real Demon.

Even if you don't have/get Foxtel, the deal is still probably better than what we have currently. At the moment, we get four games on free-to-air and four on Foxtel (in a typical round, we will exclude the 7 game rounds for this year).

Of the four games currently on free-to-air, they are all delayed by at least 30 minutes (I think Sat night on Chan 10 is the closest to live). From next year, you still get your four games in the same time slots (Friday night, sat arvo, sat night, sun arvo) with three being live. Thus, even if you do not get Foxtel, you are still in a better position. And, you know each game is live each week so you can always go to the pub to watch it. However, with Foxtel showing all games live, pubs will be forced to choose between matches that overlap...

Telstra Tbox once off cost of $299...

You pay for broadband anyway with whatever package you have.

Then you are going to get every game live without any further cost.

Come June you will also be able to contract to Foxtel via Tbox on a month to month basis.

Therefore all bases covered if you are with Telstra and have a Tbox.

There was also another question about Telstra/bigpond providing webpages for AFL and the answer is yes that continues.

Did anyone pick up whether a laptop can stream games through adsl. It was not mentioned in the presser as such, but i am betting there is a way around it.

Posted (edited)

Yes you will be able to access all the bigpond content available on tbox also on the laptop as long as you have a telstra wireless bb or fixed broadband connection be it cable, adsl...You will also be able to watch games live on your telstra phone or iPad etc..I should clarify that it should be available on laptop and is unmetered as free data download if you have a telstra internet connection. If you are with a different carrier you will pay for the data usage while you watch.

i pay my phone and internet to Primus, but all the cabling and infrastructure is Telstra, so i am guessing if i can watch AFL.com videos now, then i can watch live streams next year....

I've got a tbox and absolutely love it..new afl game analyzer...I've had no ssues with Telstra but plenty with other carriers...each to their own...

True. But that is only if your bb plan is unlimited. Otherwise you might be hit with a huge exess download bill. In some areas, it may be cheaper to get foxtel. Just read your earlier post. You have already answered this question. sorry

Yes you will be able to watch as you can watch replays now except it's live which is cool.

Still a bit confused. If I have bb totally independently of Telstra can I go to the afl/telstra website and watch matches live without having any sort of account with Telstra (assuming my bb has enough bandwidth and gbyte limits)? That would be great for me, but I can't imagine Telstra not charging somehow.

Sorry Great One 99 but that totally incorrect. Any telstra customer connected to the Internet via telstra customer recieves all bigpond content free. It is unmetered so you don't pay a cent as long as you are on bigpond cotent. I currently steam the all the demon content from tbox onto my tv, watch all games any quarter replays press conferences, player interviews, plus streaming music channel alot and none of it counts towards my monthly allowance. This means I don't need a big plan. So broadband w telstra and a tbox is definitely the way to go.

The difference is you are going to pay via data allowance to your provider for streaming a heap of games live for hrs on end. If you do it with Telstra then it's free as it's unmetered telstra customers.

I did not read your earlier post. So as long as you are with Bigpond, you wont get charged, but if not, you could be up for a big bill.

Footynut, You work for Telstra right?

If that's the case I'm happy. I have a non-Telstra bb with a 50Gbyte/moth limit which is a lot more than I usually use, so I could fit any demons matches within my limit. ( a match is around 8Byte I think), especially if the demons are on free-to-air once a month.

As for other matches, I'm happy to see whatever happens to be on free-to-air or go to the pub.

or slowing you down, so you get .....buffering...... buffering all the time

They did mention they adding additional channels to be able to run the required matches live.

I'm just glad I don't have to watch channel 7 for footy anymore from 2012.......they suck in my book!

Is it only me, or are others sad if Huddo doesn't get a gig on 7 or Foxtel. If he goes to Foxtel I'll sign up with them. He's the best caller by far IMO

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
