When's the team out?

comments please

Tonight at 5pm.

Not sure why we're playing on a Thursday, strange time, but I'm happy that it breaks up what is already a short week. Looking forward to the telecast tomorrow night!

Bails seemed pretty happy with the thursday night game - he said that the travel factor has been taken out of the equation as they have arrived here early and by the time the next game rolls along they will have had 9 days in between to recover so no excuses based on flight times / recovery etc

It suits well for a Perth game, apparently you lose a day of recovery with travel, according to some comments I've heard.

At least Channel Ten have the decency to show it live.

yeah I rate it, at the end of this weekend it will have been an 11 day period with footy on 9 of those days, wish it was like that al the time

Be careful what you wish for. I wouldn't be overly keen on playing home games on a Thursday night

Yep, those notorious return trips home from WA should be rendered mute when we play Adelaide, as we would have had a 9.5 day break. I like it from an MFC point of view, not sure why it's on a Thursday though.

Well it's an 8.40 game on the other side of the country, so it's hardly revolutionary that they are showing it live!

Their excuse is that it leads straight into the news, as a 3:10 start (delayed) would have the telecast finishing pretty much at 6.

It's a [censored] attempt at making their news ratings higher.

Thursday night is a lousy option, I'm off to the Jethro Tull concert (I wonder if they will interrupt to give us the scores in the middle of Aqualung ??)

Rocks for me. Knock off work at 9pm, fly home, rewind on the set-top box so I can skip straight through the ads and QT/HT, generally catch up by 3/4 time and watch live.

So no footy for you. To quote Ian Anderson.."Really don't mind if I sit this one out" ?

Cool, send us a review.

Last saw them over a decade ago and boy they were old then!

Petterd should be playing.

Petterd should be playing.

I'm wondering if Matty Warnock is gonna get run??? Team Balance??? Big ground, hmmn? Maric???

Intersting!

Thursday night is hard when the game is played here and you have to rush after work, but being interstate and starting later due to time difference, it's pretty non intrusive to life and it means you have a free weekend.

It's going to be a nice way to end a first day back at work after a holiday and a knee procedure. Unless we lose!

WHERE oh WHERE is pettard?? why hasn't he played the last three rounds and why is he listed as emergency against WE?? is he injured or something or does the FD consider him not good enough to be in team at the moment? if thats the case then they're dreaming cos he's clearly in our top 22!!! he demonstrated that against sydney as the sub in rd 1

Last time i saw em was 73 (I think)at festival hall.....Ian Anderson referred to it as "British Airways overseas Aircraft Hanger!"

..... in about about 10 minutes of footy.

Was then mediocre against the Hawks (admittedly, along with more than a few others), and has had games described as "Flakey" and "OK" at Casey.

Not really guaranteed, walk-up, first 22 performances. I was even surprised to hear that they'd taken him to Perth to be honest.

LeCras sounds like a bluff, anyone know how long hes been training for?

On 3AW Rumour File today it was 'reported' that Le Cras has returned more quickly than expected because he had not torn his groin muscle off the bone - as was reported at the time - but had instead suffered from a twisted [censored]. Makes my eyes water just writing this.

Have to believe he's going to play. What would be the point of naming him and then saying he's not quite ready? Either he was or he wasn't ready yesterday when they named the team.

To be fair he has had almost a season out.....he needs time to find his form again surely!

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
