Game Day (in delayed time)

Good morning all ...

I thought I'd kick things off a little early today because of it's unusual nature.

We're playing a game interstate that isn't being telecast live into the Demons' home state either on free to air or Foxtel. Those who were around back when our game went national might recall a promise given to fans at the time by Ross Oakley (Commission Chairman) that every game involving a Victorian team playing interstate would be telecast live.

Pig's!

I suppose I could have flown to Brisbane for the day but I have work commitments so I'm stuck here and I guess I'm going to end up watching the game on one hour delay punctuated by advertising breaks after every goal (and may there be plenty of them after every Melbourne goal).

The quandry is whether we have a game day thread discussing the game in real time or one that's on a one hour delay (perhaps I should come back in an hour's time to ask this question of those who are watching the telecast).

In the meantime, I'm going to find an effigy of Ross Oakley and some matches.

Here in Perth the game was scheduled to be at 12 LIVE on 7 (as per the AFL website). Upon checking the TV guide, 7 have decided to move the game to 11PM at night and show V8 Supercars instead. Foxtel isn't showing the game. Anyone know of any live streams? Cheers.

Ross Oakley was just another corporate w#%nker with a cash register for a heart and a TV for a brain.

That's curious Whispering, I just checked the digital program guide on my telly and it says the game starts at 3pm on 7. Has it been bumped???

Edit: Oh sorry! need to check my glasses and read your post properly. hehe

i think the game day thread needs to be on the delayed coverage, as i think majority of demonlanders would be watching it via that

Right ... so we'll have two game day threads, this one being in delay and one for the people at the ground or in a state where the game's being shown in real time.

Agreed.

However my lack of trust in human nature means I'm putting a complete media ban in this house until 3pm.

No Internet, twitter, phone or radio. In fact, I'm going out of the house and not returning until 3.

Its a really good day to be out of the house till 3... Go play a round of golf, best way to kill time stay away from media and have a good time.

Two threads sounds reasonable. I want to watch the game without knowing the scores so i might avoid the internet until 6pm. I do have some friends coming to watch the game though, and this usually means one of them who will check the scores on the phone :S. Better get my backhand warmed up.

Argghhh.... it is so annoying. I love coming on here at quarter breaks and having a chat. But I fear that someone might start another thread with a title that might spoil parts of the game. E.g - Jurrah takes mark of the year!

I would be waiting for it the whole match and it would spoil the surprise.

Also someone might make the mistake of posting the scores in the wrong thread. Would ruin my day.

Think im just going to play it safe and steer clear.

Disappointing that I can watch Orlando/Atlanta live from the other side of the world but not the Dees from Brisbane.

Watching on delay. :(

My honest suggestion would be to steer clear if you're watching the delay. I'll listen on the radio only because I want to know up to date what is going on and god forbid we do not win, ill be coming straight here with a thread which would be about 3 quarter time in the delay. I'd hate to wreck people's viewing.

Also, looks like Watts is the sub for today.

Disappointing. Would have rathered he played a full game at Casey instead of possibly only playing a half against a team of kids.

Could be a good opportunity for him to get up some confidence though. If we're playing well and he comes on in the 3rd quarter or so against a tiring group of 19year olds, he may have a good chance of snagging a few goals. I can't say I'm disappointed with the decision to make him sub.

Agree with what your saying just would have been good if he started, played well and not needed to be subbed. I would have loved Morton to be the sub as he is coming back from injury. Also play him the following week for Casey. Then who ever is not having an impact on the game be the subbed player. Ohwell good luck to him

I think the football department might possibly have based their decision on the way Carlton's small men carved up the Suns at the Gabba a fortnight ago. Also, the forecast is for showers and Watts hadn't played well in the wet.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
