Carlton Hits Jackpot

Featured Replies

This made my blood boil, when I read it this morning.

Carlton Hits Jackpot

How can it be allowed to happen? How can 1 organisation end up with so many poker machines & the State Government allow it to happen?

Must be great to have an important person in high places. An "important" person that robs machines from the likes of Richmond, the Bulldogs & now obtains more machines from the North Melbourne Giants & gives them to a scum side like Carlton. Must be great to have an important person like Bruce Mathieson - the pub king.

I hope Carlton choke this year & miss out on the 8.

Rant over.

Oh! And I thought you were talking about the ex Carlton player who works up there in spring st.

I believe he gave us a fantastic deal on the pokies too last year.

So I guess you feel the same about the Demons...

Oh, ok.

Oh, ok.

Our deal was nothing like theirs. They got far more at a much cheaper price.

have to admire russel crowe and south sydney on this one. no pokies policy. probably costs them on the field too, but gee they do so much damage.

Tend to agree .

My quiet ambition is for the Demons to one day be pokie free. But it has to be quiet one for now since we rely on them as one of our revenue streams at the moment.

I feel like it would also be a huge statement of financial security and confidence. A moment I'm looking forward to.

Old news

The MCG during my childhood.

Bruce Mathieson, board member of the Australian Leisure and Hospitality Group (ALH) Limited and Board Member of the Carlton Football Rort. And the AFL could not see this coming???? A bit like the Visy deal for Judd!!!

Give me a break. But as someone else said, this is old news. Bad news nonetheless, but old news

It's not quite what it seems. Firstly, under legislation the maximum number of poker machines any club can have control over in Victoria is 420. Collingwood currently has the most of any AFL club (292) while North Melbourne have zero. Carlton has 60 but is expected to get machines at other venues plus the 30 from the North Melbourne Giants. However, the 30 from the Giants has to get council approval plus permission from the gambling regulator. There is no certainty that will happen.

And before we get too sanctimonious, the MFC has 92 poker machines at Leighoak and a proposal to take control of 80 at The Bentleigh Club.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
