geez I don't like that

that's the definition of someone putting their money where their mouth is in reaction to a supposed 'rumour'

I just think if there is the chance that he hasnt signed lets all just get out there and make him feel what its like to be a Demon. Show him the support and applaud his every move and he will know where he should be. If with that and the likes of Jimmy and Cameron in his ear and he goes to GWS so be it. Like Chris Johnston, if he doesnt have the passion to be a demon well its best that he chases the money.Up to that point lets get behind him and convince him that the MCC/G is his home.

Maybe Scully could put his Melbourne pay packet on 'No' to make up the difference..

He could put his six million on yes and make another three and a half :) Whatever he decides he can clean up big without doing much at all.

What were the odds of Brumby winning the last State Election and Kennett winning the 1999 State Election?

Hints either way, the first thing his former manager will say to the 3AW journo's is I can't give you any information pertaining to my old clients especially Tom Scully. Then with the knowledge he has does he allow his station to pursue a rumour that is untrue whether it be we has signed or hasn't signed. Lets say MMM continue to stick with he has signed push, if this is wrong and we hope it is, does 3AW push the he hasn't signed, using the knowlegde they have.

This is the latest News on 3AW....what a beautifully crafted radio network they are.....such credibility.. B)

Scully will stay I am confident of that.

Just thought I'd continue the push toward 1000 posts.

Interesting opinion piece from Jason Phelan on afl.com.au: http://www.afl.com.au/tabid/208/default.aspx?newsid=107822

The comparison to the Jeff White situation has already been brought up in this thread. To Mr Phelan, I would suggest that if Tom Scully were to head to GWS in return for picks 2 and 18 in the National Draft (as the Demons traded to Fremantle for Jeff White), there wouldn't be a great deal of crying going on.

And the comment that the Demons should 'take the prospect of losing a promising and important player on the chin' if we wish to become a power club of the next decade? I completely disagree. I strongly believe a power club would fight hard to both attract and retain (whilst the opportunity remains) gun players, not meekly give in, as is suggested by the author.

And for the record, provided it's true that Tom hasn't already signed with GWS, I also believe he will remain a Demon.

Scully will stay I am confident of that.

You don't sound as confident as when you were certain Cam Bruce would stay.

Does anyone actually know what our compensation would be for Scully

A major seat on the UN board for starters....He is THAT good B)

And now for the much less funny response (though I prefer yours, WYL).

Compensation for clubs losing a player to GWS is determined only once the contract offer has been reviewed by the appropriate AFL representatives, as detailed here: http://www.afl.com.a...px?newsid=96815

So nobody would know what the (hypothetical) compensation would be at the present time.

The UN doesn't have a board so he must be REALY REALLY good !!

Heard from a very reliable source that far from the Scully to GWS leak being a Gubby Allen beat up it is actually a plant by Schawbby to build a level of hysteria, only to make a big announcement that the Scull is signing on to stay with the dees. The logic being that it will be hue fillup for the club, help memebership sales and reinfroce the vibe we are going places. Announcement to come before the season starts

Scully plonked down his pay packet one way or the other?

This takes the cake. I have heard Eddie say his source of Scully gone is impeccable. A demon fan on bigfooty saying a close friend knows scully and states he want contract negotiations brought forward and another on the Carlton Board saying a very reliable source said Scully signed last Wednesday night.

I have never heard so many 'reliable sources' contradict each other. It makes little sense to me that he would leave, but I have never seen such sure people completely divided with 'inside' information.

Schwab using this to create membership sales makes Sheedy sound sane.

Best scenario though is a huge build up and re-signing prior to round 1. worst is anything involving him leaving.

Control of the Sun. And even then we'd be getting ripped off.

OMG how many rumours and counter rumours are we going to hear before this saga is over. Got to hand it to you that's a doozey, it's a bit like the old spy versus spy with all sides trying to outsmart each other.

If he signs he signs, if he doesn't he doesn't, the World will continue to function and we will still win a flag in the next few years, with or without him. I hope he signs but I'm not going to "not enjoy" my football over the coming season either way. I hope for Jimmy's sake the boys put in a great effort this season and that includes Tom.

I'd say best scenario is Scully signing right after the new TV rights and collective bargaining deals are settled. This has the advantages that it shows everyone involved to have been telling the truth and it ensures that he is being dealt with fairly and compensated according to the new salary cap rules.

Oh please... Get a grip!

Talk about clutching at straws. People your In denial! Time to wake up and look at things without your Demon hat on. Things aren't looking good.

My source re Schwabby leaking false was the girlfriend of the brother of Schawaby's dentist. Nah just having a laugh, however so much of this topic is absurd that nothing would surprise me. If he does in fact re-sign it would be a great boost - perhaps enough to tip us over 40, 000 memebers

That rumour about Schwabby starting the frenzy is so twisted, you couldn't make that stuff up.

If Scully signs early as you say, I will hail him as a genius.

It would truly be a brilliant move.

Nothing could ignite the passion of our supporter group like the seemingly-certain prospect of losing our young future star, then the elation of retaining him.

Wickedly delicious.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
