WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH

There's a pretty big difference in the quality of Billy Stretch's highlights in the initial vid (Sep 9). Notably Stretch is shown kicking two behinds:

He looks much slicker in the vid released (Oct 6) after we've secured him as a father-son selection:

Did the Dees management release dodgy highlights to keep his value down? Or were they just saving the good highlights until we eventually secured him?

The clubs don't research players through other clubs websites...

Really can't believe I had to write that.

I reckon we would have under BP.

No kidding, but Stretch looked like a spud in that vid. Why wouldn't the club show him at his best? It's laughable to show a player kicking a behind in a highlight vid, especially off a set shot.

Just went on the SANFL website. Billy played for Glenelg against Adelaide (Rd 16) and Port Adelaide (rd 18).

He was best on ground against the Crows, they lost by 2 goals and he was second best on ground against Port where they won. Glenelg only won 4 games for the year, and Port made the grand final. He's skightly built but he's clearly good at the spread, he regularly finds himself in the right position and has proven now he is adequate against AFL listed bodies. Trying hard not tool get my hopes too pumped up, but I'm really impressed with Billy

I'm probably repeating what others have said, but I am thrilled that The Kid is finally a Demon. I can see him getting a decent run next year with his outside run and nice delivery. The fact that being strong on the outside does not in this case coincide with poor work ethic (Blease) or inability to contest and defend (Strauss) makes this a great value pick up for us. Really looking forward to him passing hisdad's tally with us.

Managing the hype and supporters' expectations in case we don't get him..?

Honestly, why set the fans up for an angry reaction that we didn't get our next father-son can't-miss superstar in the case a silly high bid comes and we elect not to match it?

Nothing more.

I'm impressed by Billy's highlights on the MFC website. It looks like he can really run and evade, and the foot skills were quite good.

Can never take too much away from highlights though, I suppose.

When does Billy officially come to the club, and where do people see a developed Stretch playing? I do see shades of Boomer in him, I also see his evasiveness and pace being an asset coming out of the backline. Really excited about Billy!

when his number is called out at the draft

Effectively, he is at the club now.

Surely 2015 and 2016 should be him developing a body to deal with the rigours of modern footy.

I really hope we don't see much of him in the next two years.

Wow is this fair dinkum

i remember back in 2011ish when someone made a thread about Billy being a potential F/S selection. He was tiny, and apart from the fact he was playign footy it seemed a long shot. Nek Minut....

The first video is from the AFL website. It only includes the AFL Under 18s games that were televised (ie, the last 2).

The second video were the club's own videos of Stretch playing. It was released by the MFC and includes any games they felt like showing.

I know .....I remember clearly we were talking about him when he was only 14

Pass

Picket fence certainly hasn't changed much.

He was just as off the mark than as he is now.

"Last week, Stretch was one of the SANFL’s top performers at the AFL Combine, finishing in the top 10 of three events"

Burglary.

It shouldn't be a hard thread to find, you're posting in it!

Touche! So we are!

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
