WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH

Featured Replies

Unfortunately FS is just before trade week starts to stop this sort of thing. Sorry about that.

Wasn't aware of that. Nuts.

Well, get in the boy's ear and tell him to drop off this year so we can take him as a third rounder.

Why is Stretch allowed to train with us? Some sort of conditional rule regarding father/son picks?

He and Angus Brayshaw were training with us as part of the AIS program a couple of months ago. Is that what you're referring to?

We're talking about Paul Roos here. His recruitment at the Swans was second to none. I predict we'll get Stretch with a second round pick, so what the club will do is offload our high second round pick (probably between 19 and 22 at this rate) in exchange for a player and low second round pick from another club, likely at the top end of the ladder (teams overflowing with depth and keen on better picks so they can continue developing youngsters).

Then we can use this lower pick (around 30 to 36) on Stretch. That way we get the value out of our second rounder, and the kid who wants to bleed red and blue for us at a bargain pick.

F/S nominations are before the trade period. We will likely be able to get Stretch with a third round pick at the earliest.

F/S nominations are done before the trading period. It is impossible for this scenario to work.

I like your forward thinking though!

Just a quick update Billy has played the last 2 games in the seniors for Glenelg and has showed promise. Will be a good development for him playing against bigger bodies.

... and Brett Lovett's son who isn't eligible for the draft till next year played for the Dandenong Stingrays a couple of weeks ago and was named in the best players.

What other exciting father/son prospects might we have over the next few years? The Farmer boys?

How long until the Davey lads are appearing on our radar?

There is only one, the youngest, the rest are girls.

That was true until they had twin boys...

I was about to say...

They've gotta be at least 13 years away though.

should be just right for our next premiership window

'i would love to play for melbourne" thats enough for me..

If anyone follows his old man on twitter you will know he is a demon through and through. Billy will def be coming to the dees if we want him to.

Thats not enough for me

" I am an absolute gun and I would love to play for Melbourne" - thats enough for me.

I can see Todd Viney really pushing the case for us to draft at years end.

I think we will take him F/S but i like what we have done, we have left him a couple of doubts to see if he will work his ass off to get that red and blue jumper.

i dont think we have left him with any doubts, i think he is just answering the best way he should answer it for the club, if he went out and said the club guaranteed they would use a 1st round selection on me, how does that benefit any party.

no doubt he if was in victoria the club would have done a similar thing to what they did with viney and got him playing for casey, but seniors sanfl is a better learning experience than TAC cup so it gives him every oppourtunity to develop.

if you read the article it says he'd like to play for melbourne, we have had a little bit of contact but basically only said look we want to watch you over the year and see how you go, so he would be feeling the better he plays the better his chances which is exactly what we want.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
