We're getting close to conclusion.

I think this game is a more about the journey than the destiantion but I can see a few of you are destination oriented.

I thought I might impanel a set of wise judges to vote 3-2-1 (or similar 10-9-...-2-1 to be agreed with the judges) for the team they'd enter 2011 and beyond with reasons. I reckon we might learn a fair bit from this analysis. Applications sought ...

I'm heading OS for 3 weeks on Friday so hopefully we can get it done by then.

PM me if you want to judge, I'll make a selection - I've invited a few likely candidates.

I was thinking same. Perhaps after final selections we can submit a final team sheet with surname, plus first initial , and abbreviated team in brackets.

ie. B: B.Waters (WC) B.Lake (WB) J.Brennan (GC)

HB: D.Jackson (Rich) B.Goddard (StK) J.Lewis (Haw)

... and so on. Just makes it clearer and removes the name confusion aspect.

Fair enough. Your pick.

I doubt he'll play a senior game for the Suns.

Good thing this is a matter of personal opinions. I really enjoyed watching him run around in the VFL this year, whether he gets a game or not, i think his vertical leap, 'x factor' and turn of pace are a good mix for the forward pocket.

Judging panel starting to come together - will name them tomorrow or Wednesday.

Voting scheme agreed 5-4-3-2-1 with explanations.

Objective: Win 2011 flag

1) Are we putting a team together for just 2011 or the next 3 years. Ie. do we rule out the senior citizens of the comp?

In the original I said 3 years but let's just go for 2011 so senior players like Simon Black are in play.

With any luck, we should be complete by tomorrow evening. Well done on the concept old55, it's been thought provokingly fun.

Move over BP...(ah your job is safe ;) )

Eth38 can go now as he still has a wildcard and needs a Freo player, and master has taken 2 freo players (using his wildcard).

As long as eth38 isn't eyeing off a Tiger or a PA player (as master still needs those).

After that ox_5 needs a Swan and a Roo, he could theoretically go after eth38, but doesn't need to wait for master either (provided eth38 uses his wildcard).

And... since I need a Saint and a Lion, I can go once eth38 has his turn, assuming eth38n uses hos wildcard.

So many permutations...

I think it would almost be worth revisiting at the end of the year to give a preseason winner and a post season winner - bringing hindsight, injuries and form into the picture!

Immensely enjoyable and surprisingly gripping - many thanks

Pick 168: Hayden Ballantyne (Freo heave ho)

B: Harbrow Garland Rawlings

HB: Drummond Pears Gilbee

C: Foley Hodge Simpson

HF: Gray Cloke

F: Byrnes Walker Ballantyne

R: Mumford Hayes Priddis

Sorry E25, no wildcard yet

9 Richmond picks so far means (barring someone wild carding a Richmond player) I've got my free choice of them last, so will save that pick.

So down to Port. 8 - Boak, Gray, Pearce, Chaplin, Cassisi, Salopek, Hartlett, Carlile gone. Considered a second ruck in Brogan, their most reliable player in K. Cornes, young CHB Trengove and injured/unfit trio Rodan, Ebert and Motlop. In the end went for a solid back pocket in Surjan who should do a good job most weeks.

Pick 167 - Jacob Surjan (Port)

FB: J. Surjan N. Grima S. Hurn

HB: J. Kelly L. McPharlin J. Adcock

C: D. Thomas S. Thompson S. Hill

HF: A. Monfries L. Henderson D. Swallow

FF: ______ L. Franklin A. Schneider

R: M. Jamar J.P. Kennedy R. Griffen

I almost took Fyfe instead of Palmer.

I really like the kid as a medium forward.

He will become a very good player. Smart footballer.

I've had a re-think on Gram.

He is pretty good, not as old as I thought and I could do with a bit more drive out of the back half.

I felt like I needed a tagger and I rate Jones as second-best in the comp (after Rawlings), but I think Palmer & Cunnington can cover that role adequately.

I thought about Baker too, cos every team needs one.

Could've taken Kosi or Milne if there was a bit more on offer at Brisbane.

Pick 170 - Jason Gram - St Kilda

B: Cunnington, Morris, Toy

HB: Gram, B. Reid, Hartlett

C: Palmer, Goodes, Sylvia

HF: Van Berlo, Kennedy, S. Johnson

F: Rioli, Ryder,

R: Kreuzer, Pendlebury, Martin

Ryder can switch to the backline as a mobile 3rd tall defender.

Cunnington up forward to apply more pressure in the forward-line.

Those 2 can swap depending on opposition to create favorable matchups.

I'm confident as a forward Ryder is mobile enough to not have his man run off him too much.

Kreuzer could play more as an extra mid and zone off, sitting a kick behind play, with Ryder able to ruck in the back 50 and Clark capable of tucking up forward.

A bit surprised Clark lasted this long.

As far as a big lump up forward to bring the ball to ground, he fits the bill pretty well.

Pick 171 - Mitch Clark - Brisbane Lions

B: Ryder, Morris, Toy

HB: Gram, B. Reid, Hartlett

C: Palmer, Goodes, Van Berlo

HF: Sylvia, Kennedy, S. Johnson

F: Cunnington, Clark, Rioli

R: Kreuzer, Pendlebury, Martin

Pick 172 - Scott Thompson (North)

B: J.Gibson (Haw), C.Tarrant (Coll), S.Thompson (Nth)

HB: J.Winderlich (Ess), H.Taylor (Gee), C.Enright (Gee)

C: S.Black (Bris), D.Kerr (WC), D.Pearce (Port)

HF: S.Higgins (WB), N.Riewoldt (Stk), J.Porplyzia (Adel)

F: L.Jurrah (Melb), J.Riewoldt (Rich), L.Jetta (Syd)

R: R.Warnock (Carl), M.Barlow (Freo), M.Rischitelli (GC)

Thought you were going to go with Cornelius. Clark isnt bad for this late.

Cornelius has potential but he's a long way off.

I don't rate him yet.

Clark was close to All-Australian in 2009 (or did he get it? Can't remember).

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
