Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We have enough elite abilities to develop. And the chances of finding them late is slim.We need some more hard workers to balance it out.

Luckily enough we have potential elite developing who are also extremely hard workers

Not demonstrated by our current midfield and stoppages performances. I admit with the recent unexpected departure our overall hardness has increased but by default only :)

We're short a midfield stopper, everyone seems to pencil Jordie in for this but he is a great ball winner himself.

Eddy has good endurance and high tackle count - the question marks will be pace and disposal.

The Saints have Jones in this role and they also have McQualter on their list.

We're also short a small lock-down defender - right now it's Clint then daylight.

With 6 rookie picks there's space to try some high-risk/high-return and some low-risk/reasonable-return.

He's 22 - he's at least worth looking closely at.

I disagree with that.

Bail possesses all the qualities that Eddy does, without the question marks.

I think he is being groomed for a role as a tagger.

Bartram is our small defender, but I think Bennell is capable in this role and Garland can also cover it.

Sorry, but Eddy is not the answer, in my opinion.

Eddy is symptomatic of the problem St. Kilda has ATM. He points us to the reason why they are unlikely to improve in their current cycle.

Eddy was one of the bottom half dozen players in the Saints' grand final teams who just didn't cut it. This lack of depth is the their Achilles heel and while the situation took a turn for the worse in 2010, it doesn't look like improving any time real soon.

Dont take this the wrong way. However, that "problem" you are referring to got them within 1 point of winning the Grand Final last year.

IMHO you are not paying due credit to the Magpies.

The problem was not aided by their recruitment of Andrew Lovett and Jesse Smith, their refusal to deal on Ball, a reliance on aging ruckmen King and Gardner and their over-inflated belief in the worth of Koschitzke.

This is probably more likely to impact them in the next 2-3 years.

Is this the same Eddy who looked completely lost in both grand finals? I like honest triers but you need more strings to your bow in the big games.

No thank you.

He played both GF's with a broken jaw and apparently played with a broken hand for most of the season. If we can get him as a fit package he's very tempting. I'd just take him for his courage alone. He's the right stuff to complement our talent IMO.

BTW, I think some posters are getting a little fussy. Only champagne and caviar thank you, don't need meat and potatoes.

Fair to say the point Redleg is making is that we have had threads on Ashley Hansen, Travis Johnstone, Jason Laycock (REALLY?), Justin Westhoff, Shaun Grigg, Clayton Hinkley, Will Minson........should I go on?

Fair point. Dont want to give him a spot on our list.

But he definately deserves a thread of his own. :)

I guess this is where our opinions differ - is he low-risk/reasonable-return or low-risk/low-return? I see him as the latter - hence, what's the point? If he's the former then it's probably worth a shot.

There's some doubt I suppose, so your approach of "look closely" is spot on.

When it comes to meat and spuds, some like rib-eye with seasoned jacket potatoes while others make do with discount Coles bangers and cold mash.

Eddy is the latter.

I am not advocating taking him, but given he played in the grand finals with a broken jaw and a broken hand and beat 20 other players for the position, he deserves consideration for our rookie list. He would have to be better than most players who will be rookied.

Well if Eddy is discount sausage and cold mash and given that he would be better than most rookies, what are they,

3 week old pizza and stale hot beer.

Can't wait for the next post.

I think we have a better version of Eddy in Rohan Bail.

Pretty much spot on. Why on earth would we start recruiting good ordinary footballers. We already have the likes of Bartram, Dunn, Warnock, Jones, Macdonald, Spencer and possibly Strauss, Maric and Jetta to fight for the remaining spots in our best 22. We still need to recruit the best available. In my dreams Tom Lynch slides to 12, otherwise Darling or Lycett for mine but I have little idea about the midfielders/flankers who may be around when we have our picks. I doubt the club will even look at Eddy or Anthony for that matter. Thorp remains the smoky for mine and next week we'll have some of the answers. People forget Martin whom I still believe has a role to play next year.

If we run with the assumption that players who have been on a senior list (even if they've played in a grand final) is always going to be better than rookie listed players, then the rookie lists would always be filled delisted AFL players, would they not?

The rookie list is for 6 rolls of the dice.

High risk / high reward.

Eddy is a known quantity and there is only a low reward on offer.

Even if there is no risk, what would be the point?

He'd never get elevated to the senior list as he's not better than who we already have & very unlikely to improve much, if at all.

And they often are. Obviously not all spots will go to delisted AFL players as some are too old or injured or their best is behind them. Lets examine our rookie list this year, Newton and Meesen both delisted players, Hughes a rookie who had been there for five years, Spencer and McKenzie who were both really senior list players and now are and Healy a true young rookie, now gone. I accept that the rookie list is for finding extra young talent but good older footballers also have their use. Now we even have a mature rookie category. I note Newton remains on the list and another senior player or two may join him if you read Demonland.

No need for me to have courage as I haven't advocated anything.

Quote 1 relates to the fact that Demonlanders have suggested taking just about every delisted player in the AFL, so why is there not a thread about taking a bloke who plays in two grand finals?

Quote 2 is my opinion on taking him.

I was just bemused by the fact that we are referring to an AFL grand final footballer as a "discount sausage".

there is a thread on eddy you started it its got to start somewhere, we should pick him up in the rookie draft. I think there is a little bit of gold in the PSD, but does not look like, we will have any PSD picks this year.

Unless we have a specific target in the PSD who agrees to come to us, I would believe we would use our 4 draft selections. If a target became apparent after the draft we would have to delist another player perhaps in the way we did with Newton and Meesen, onto the rookie list. If the player delisted was contracted he would have to agree.

It does seem like if a club agrees to take a player in the PSD other clubs will allow that to happen. That could change if the player was a very good one.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
