Wow

great scott !!!! another scott, this will be very interesting ... see herald sun website

A bit out of left field IMO. I really expected one of the candidates with a Geelong connection to get the nod.

No surprise here. Contrary to the media reports, he was the favourite for the Cats job once Thompson quit.

Massive increasing in his rappore and reputation following his application at Port and work at Freo. Murmurings I've heard from within other club coaching departments, was the Dons had a strong interest in Scott but that Evans couldn't overlook the marketing/return of "the golden child" to the Bombers.

that was a bit of a shock, id thought Hinkley would get it

So did deepthroat (Spy&SOurce) - Ox - you were right (he is a dud)

Sportingbet never had Scott as favourite. He was the rank outsider of the last 3 candidates.

Haha just going on past tweets HT - wasn't surprised that he was totally off the mark.

Great decision by Geelong in my opinion. A fresh face who has achieved arguably more than any player on their list (premiership wise). A lot of respect will need to be earned from this bloke I reckon, the Cats stars wont be able to go by their reputation anymore.

Yep, at the beginning of trade week I had it in my head that spy&source had been reliable,

but when I checked, anything that came true was tweeted after the fact.

He's almost as anti-prophetic as Freak.

If I may....noticed in report(s) that part of the Geelong coaching criteria (at least a significant component of the criteria) is that the club (GFC) put some emphasis on a candidate who has a successful background. It is believed Scott & Brisbane's success may have help rule out Hinkley & Sanderson. The same criteria was used when Thompson got the nod eleven years ago. Interesting....

Should it be something worthwhile looking at including within the criteria for the next coaching stint at Melbourne ?(whenever that might be...) Or, is it to anyone's knowledge already included within Mfc's criteria ?

An interesting if not inspired choice . Would have been handy at Dees z. Such is life . I think Geelong are kidding themselves if they think they will maintain the competitveness through 2011. They won't bottom but will co e back to the field . 2012 when the newish team gels and youngens come on they will start climbing again without doubt. They are in a semi rebuilding/ redefining mode.

Does beg a question ... Who will stay and who might go , coaches etc , now Scott at reigns ?

I think you'd be kidding youself if you don't think Geelong will maintain their competitiveness in 2011. Sure Ablett is a big loss. But you can't rule out their leadership, nor can you rule out their competitive list.

They are alluding to still be in hunt for 2011 cup . No ablett , new coaches.. Some oldies hanging around too long ( Bombers favs etc) Structure ofteam and game style about to change sufficiently to lose that momentum

Top 8 ?yep Top 4 ?... they're dreaming

How would you possibly know that the structure and game style will change (significantly) to result in a loss of momentum ? You're just guessing.

You rule them in for Top 8, but rule them out of contention (written them off) for top 4 ? (where the difference could be just 1-2 wins).

IMO they're still a top 4 contender.

Scott has said he'll blood a lot of new players.

Might hurt their chances.

Of course it's just bloody opinion. You seek concrete where none exists . Scott already suggesting he'll blood more kids etc .We all know what happens then. It takes time. Their core is getting old. A lot of their game revolved around the mercurial GA and side kick Chappy. That engine room dramatically curtailed . Has to be knock on effects that will take a season to sort out as new guys come on and style solidifies. Geelong ain't going to be what it was ... IMHO lol

Scott also said they are in a position to contend next year, despite giving some opportunities for younger players. Of course Geelong won't be exactly the same.

Btw BB59, I know it's all about opinion. Fact is, you've ruled them out of contention for top 4.

Write them off at your peril.

HT, I never suggested that he was the favourite amongst the bookmakers or the media, I know from sources (both within the GFC and other family ties) that he was the initial favourite/preferred candidate of the GFC board immediately following Thompson's leaving.

Scott might have been an outsider in the minds of the media/bookmakers, however the GFC board certainly had him as their No 1 target when told by Bomber that he no longer had the desire. The board's choice for an "outsider" was in line with their original thinking that a number of players needed to be challenged outside of their comfort zone, and that both Hinkley and Sanderson had limitations in this department (due to their previous GFC connections).

Chris' 1st interview all but confirmed what they suspected.

Yeah, I know. I figured it might be among the FD's, cheers for that. Point being, it was a bit of a surprise externally.

Fwiw, pretty sure he was being quoted around ~$7. Wonder if a few in the know had a nibble.

Lol What would you expect Scott to say givien the circumstances? All of Geelong expects them to maintain the rage . Well rage they might but saying is not doing . They were horribly exposed by the filth Even carlsum gutted them Geelong of 2010 not that of 2009 . tide already turning. 2011 to see a redrawing of the team ... That's just an IS .

Respect them as a team but only have them 5-7 in 2011. That's my view

Scott says still flag contenders ... Yeah yeah As if he'd have said different.

At six months til the start of the season they are in the mix.

No one knows what will happen to the other sides in the break up to 2011.

Exactly what he communicated and he meant it. If you think it's just a bit of selling, so be it, you're entitled to your view. I reckon you're sadly mistaken.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
