Who gets delisted next year

I know its a long way off but I think Tim Harrington is going to earn his money next year. In my opinion we have very few automatic delistings. Cam Bruce will be one if he signs on for one more year maybe Macdonald. Outside of these two players its going to be out of young players with potential, what do others think ?

I think you will find that Bate and Dunn just signed two year contracts and after the way Dunn finished off the year why would you think they would want to delist him? If he plays like that again next year he would be one of the first picked.

Not sure about Bartram an his contract status but he was good this year as well and the fact we delisted Cheney would indicate that Bartram is the preferred player for small back position.

Agree with all except highly doubt Wona would be delisted and NO WAY Bennel will be delisted the club rates him as one of our most promising youngsters, just listen to the way schwab goes on about him

It's probably a tad inappropriate to have this conversation so far out, but I think it's an interesting topic, just because I think it'll be interesting to see which players unexpectedly come on, and which players unexpectedly fizzle out once the year is over.

At the most risk are Maric, Martin and Jetta for mine.

A heck of a lot of water to pass under the bridge first though; last year I'd have had Bell, Miller, Dunn, Bartram, Johnson and McNamara. A lot can change in one season.

A lot harder to do it this year compared to last year.

Strauss might find himself in a bit of trouble if he doesn't pull his finger out. In previous years you'd hang onto him based on his junior rep but tough decisions will be made.

Very interesting to see who goes etc etc. Next year however pj newton both should be gone. done. hopefully either bennell or strauss can dethrone bartram i dont think hes an essential cog. he can get traded for a 40odd. Maric can go, got plenty of him, then i dont want anything to do with Mcnamara. thats more than enough leaving for mine

Martin, Warnock, Maric, Strauss, and MacDonald might be superfluous.

PJ and/or McNamara could push back their fate a year...

Dunn would have done enough this year to be persevered with. Highly doubt he'd be delisted in the next 2-3 years. Traded maybe, but not delisted.

Yep, forgot to include a disclaimer related to me not remembering the contract situations of each player.

Dunn, if he regressed to his form pre-2010 will be in the gun.

Bate if he has another lackluster year will also.

There are a few I missed that others have covered.

Strauss, Warnock & Jetta, in particular.

Edit: and most of these players are more likely to be traded than delisted anyway.

We have a lot of quality on our list now, not many players that would be sent to the scrapheap.

There are always players to be sent to the scrapheap. Any year if you're struggling to come up with at least three players to be moved on, you're not looking hard enough.

I should clarify: when I say "sent to the scrapheap", I mean they will drop out of AFL footy altogether.

I think we have very few players on our list, that if we decided to let them go, would not be able to find a home on another AFL list.

Arrogance maybe, delusional probably, but I see our list as having that much quality.

Dunn is a good, ordinary player. He is a role player that needs to conitnue to step up or he will find himself out of the 22.

I really struggle to see how he can bring about such high praise when he has played half a season of consistent footy.

A player in contract can still be traded, and even delisted (though their contract will have to be paid out). This has happened as recently as Cheney this year and Newton and Meesan last year.

At this point in time, I have made a category of who i believe are 'depth' players. My hope is that eventually all these players will be moved on, to be replaced by new draftees.

- PJ

- Maric

- Jetta

- McNamara

- Warnock

I think PJ & McNamara could be delisted as early as this season. Martin, Maric and Jetta are in big trouble unless they show big improvement during 2011. Warnock will probably be trade bait next season if he once again ends up playing 10+ games in the vfl.

Shouldn't thread title read ... "Players we should have traded this year". Simply because, if you going to delist them you are always best to get in 1 year early because of their "currency" value.

I think the idea is that they may be in the gun, but it is dependent on their form in 2011.

ie. we wouldn't want to trade or delist Maric now, because he still might come good and be worth keeping for 150 games, but if he has a 2011 like his 2010, he'd be a fair candidate for moving on.

I hear what you are saying. However, the concern is ... if they are un-played & un-contracted ... we hold no bargaining power & hold "little" trade value. So now.. are we not compelled to either a/ play them or b/ contract them for longer? In an attempt at improving our bargaining position. or there is a c/ Hope they attract enough interest from GWS to "trade" them for a priority pick.

Also inversely, if we dont do a/ or b/ ... why did we keep them?

Suppose ultimately our FD has been forced into a "waiting" manoeuvre and hope the players mentioned in Slyviantors group do show quality "improvement". Maybe the FD is also putting into perspective the "loss vs return" for these types of players in this draft. All interesting stuff.
