Kyle Cheney

Word is that Kyle Cheney has requested a trade, with Hawthorn showing interest.

Is contracted to the Dees so if nothing transpires today will remain with the club but is interested in seeking opportunity elsewhere.

Is also on the flight to China which makes this even more interesting, personally I hope we keep him.

We have only three spaces on the list.

We will upgrade Spencer and McKenzie from the rookie list.

That means all we can use in the draft is pick 12 unless we do either or both of the following:

1. Delist PJ and/or TMac.

2. Trade Cheney for a pick we will never use. Cheney is low in the pecking order and is not a keep IMO.

And if Newton is China bound I wonder whether they will re rookie him in 2011.

A third round pick for Cheney is fine by me. Frees up one more spot, and possibly means we get to keep TMac for another year.

If you want to free list space, then you should be happy to take a 5th or 6th rounder pick that you will never use.

At the moment we dont have space to use pick 32.

At the moment, yes, but you can bet your house that we will open up 1-2 more spots on the list before the national draft.

There is absolutely no chance we'll be going in on draft day with only pick 12

PJ, Tmac, Cheney and Martin probably the players most at risk

My understanding was you had to draft a min. of three players!

Cheney and Martin are contracted. Unless you do a gratuitous trade for Cheney then he stays.

PJ,TMac are in the gun.

Upgrading from the rookie list counts as taking up draft picks. Jordie and Jake count for 2.

Atm we only have room for pick 12.

As another poster pointed out, PJ and TMac are not on the plane to China. Hmmm!

Thanks Rhino I forgot about the upgrades must have been too much red over the weekend!

While I am not a big fan of PJ if we let him go and then Jamar gets injured we will be in the poo!

There is also the matter of Cam Bruce Have you heard anything lately?

I really hope this trade gets done.

Cheney is a complete list clogger in my view, and it'd be a pleasure to see the Hawks bring in another sub-par defender to clog their ranks.

You simply can't teach size, speed or skill.

Reminds me of the Chris Johnson to Carlton adventure that I still take great pleasure in.

Obviously you only attend MFC games, if you had watched a few of the Casey games, you will have seen Cheney is developing nicely, and finished in the best three for the season in quite a few polls on'Casey' players.

But then again you can always form an opinion on anything sight unseen

You can't teach speed, size or skill.

These are the 3 areas where Kyle is lacking.

I've seen a few VFL games and he goes alright, but PJ won the Liston one year, didn't he?

I'm not really concerned with VFL form, moreso how they translate that to AFL level.

With a kid, I look at the qualities he'll need to succeed at AFL level and Fetta doesn't hae enough of them.

He could be a capable role player for a year or 2 in a developing side, but he's not a premiership player.

He's simply not.

Oh I got it....you mean like Clint Bartram who everybody wanted to get rid of last season, who probably had his most consistent season and played really well without starring.......what is a premiership player by the way, thought it was somebody who played in a premiership team, not somebody who we think will play in that team......I don't think anuybody at the start of last season would have picked Jarryd Blair as a 'premiership player'

I would like to move Bartram on as soon as possible also.

His inability to use the footy creates a serious weak link in the defense.

But... Bartram has always had good pace and a good tank, so he can lock down on small forwards.

Cheney is not going to suddenly get faster or taller.

Blair was lucky. You get that. Steve Armstrong was the same.

I'm interested in building a dynasty. And Fetta is not a 12th mid/fp rotating off the bench.

Bartram is relatively quick, strong and has elite endurance. His physical qualities were never in question.

It was his decision making which was the number 1 worry, and the FD has mitigated this limitation by turning him into a much more defensive small forward, who is told to always take the easiest and first option.

Bartram increased bc of increased confidence in his role in the team and an improved 'quickness' of thinking

A premiership player, is a player that sits comfortably within the structure of a premiership team.

Some teams win premierships in spite of weak links.

My desire is that we eradicate all weak links from the side.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
