We are looking for a tall fwd who can play ruck for 5min and I think he fits the requirements...

by no means a superstar and has had a couple of dud games but would definitely be serviceable, is only 22yrs old so in the right age bracket... has had injuries but I think he would be the perfect fit for what DB has planned for our fwd line.

I don't think that Geelong would let him go because he is valuable to their rebuild but I would trade pick 12 for him or Jones and 3rd round for Hawkins and their 2nd/3rd round...

What are peoples thoughts

If we could get him for the right price go for it!

Only 22! Plenty of improvement still in him. He is what we are looking for...

Cant see Geelong parting with Hawkins especially with Blake wanting to move. Blake is a dud and if I were Geelong I would be moving him on anyway.

Is he out of contract?

We are looking for somebody with his age, height and build so if he was on the table for the right price ... why not?

Don't know if they would consider Jones as they have plenty of midfield depth but Warnock could replace Milburn and is a better defender than Lonergan.

Even if he was out of contract, he's a father-son selection and is being given a fair go.

He's not on the outer like Blake.

There is no incentive for him to leave, or the club to trade him.

But if we did try to twist their arm, we'd have to offer a hell of a lot.

No chance.

I'm convinced some people sit and go through other clubs lists, only looking at the "height", "weight"and "date of birth"columns, and pick their hitlist from that.

I can't say that I'll stop barrcking for Melbourne if we pick up Hawkins, because I would never stop, but does that paint the picture for you in regards to how I feel about him?

Why? We're looking for a 2nd ruck - has anyone watched him ruck? He should be a gun ruckman with all the watching of the opposition rucks that he does on the field and in contests! A big bodied Full Forward? Yes, he is a big body, but that's where it stops. For a bloke that was considered a top 10 draft prospect (had it not have been for the Father/Son rule), I think he has shown minimal in a team that has a lot of midfield stars. Watts has far more upside than Hawkins. I would even say that Stef Martin isn't that far behind Hawkins, and has more upside.

Lazy Footballer

Doesn't use his physical presence at a contest

Poor set shot for goal

Has no idea about the ruck position

Useless below his knees to the point he seems to think its not part of the job

Another what could have been

No Thanks

How can anyone even say it is a GOOD idea? Seriously, what drugs are you on.

He has the best build in the AFL and for 3 and a bit years has played in the best team in the AFL having the ball spoon fed to him and being given licence to go anywhere and he is still crap. 22 or not, the bloke cannot play. He has been given free reign and time to develop and he is still nothing more than an average VFL player.

Imagine how horrible he would be made to look if he got the opposition number 1 defender instead of number 3 or 4.

Lake, Fletcher, Presti, Chip, Gilbert, Grundy and co would be licking their lips at playing on a bloke like this.

He can't get a kick playing in the ruck.

He can't take a contested mark.

He can't kick.

He has no ticker.

HE IS A DUD.

Surely anyone with half a football brain can see.

Thank god the MFC football department have more common sense than some people round here.

Agreed. In the last few years i have not seen him play one good game. What worries me even more is he's been a pathetic forward in a side with the best midfield.

Hawkins is contracted and the son of a former player. There's been no indication from the Cats that they don't want him or that he's unhappy and wants to leave. On that basis, there's no story here.

However, at some stage Hawkins and his management should consider whether or not it might be better for him to change clubs in the interests of his own development as a footballer. He's been around a successful club for a few years now without developing and there's a case for saying he's going backwards. From his POV it might therefore be worth looking at a move elsewhere and away from an environment where he's always been treated as a prodigious talent yet failed to live up to expectations.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
