I voted for Green.

An ultimately useless but nonetheless interesting fact:

This year will be the first time in his career Brad Green has played every home and away round!

There was talk of the captaincy being written into Davey's last contract .

Bahahahahahahaha

Surely you're not serious?!

What club would write a captaincy clause into a player's contract?

Absurd.

If true, the only thing that could conceivably be would be a performance-based bonus for being awarded the captaincy.

Not sure any player runs around discussing the ins and outs of his contract in public.

I would have a problem with Davey being captain as I don't like the idea of our captain being pushed around by the opposition. That does happen and would happen even more if he was captain. I am certainly comfortable with him being deputy.

I don't think our next captain is a clear cut choice. I prefer Green for his on field role but am not sure about his off field capabilities. Those that will make the selection will know all the attributes of the contenders.

Agree on both points Redleg. That is why I have mentioned what has been stated over the course, I don't think it is clear cut as others believe.

That's not entirely fair Keyser. There absolutely was talk about the captaincy being written into Davey's contract.

Of course, all that talk was coming from people who haven't the faintest idea how footy clubs are run and what is included in contracts.

Carlton ??

They didn't though, did they?

Surely it was only a fait accompli and didn't need to be written into the contract.

I still remember a few years back when Green was shopping around at other clubs, then when MFC considerably raised the price, he signed and said he never considered leaving the club. Moloney comes across as the opposite, I highly doubt there is another player on our list who loves the Melbourne Football Club more than Brent Moloney. Add to that he's a big fella more than capable of "flying the flag" and a great courageous midfielder. Green has won us a few games this year, kicked a few bags, but he isn't the club's saviour, not by a long shot. The next captain has to be Brent Moloney.

Just finished listening to all the speeches from the B & F night.

Loved the end of Brad Green's - "One last thing I'll leave you with. I'm sick to death of our teeth being kicked in by opposition supporter's teams. Get ready for a massive season next year, boys. Come out harder and stronger."

Greeny... you ripper. :)

I voted Moloney as I want my captain to be in the guts, and be a natural leader of men.

I understand the desire to see Green captain and I would see him as a good captain.

I just think that when the going gets tough, I know who will show the way under Jamar.

And I have an issue with a HFF being captain.

My only problem with Moloney is that i don't think he's good enough a player, and he's definitely not consistent enough.

Can't have your captain playing a stinker once every 4-5 games.

Green is the obvious choice

You are forgetting how good he was before the Freo game and Sandilands cleaning him up. Him and Jamar were great.

Brittle body, maybe. But if the OP is gone he can play for 5 more years.

I know most won't agree with me, but I really like the Grant Thomas model of a rotating captaincy.

Get off. Now.

Make me!

At least change your vote perhaps...? So that you can be the sole clown/fool selecting the "joint captaincy" option!

Joint captaincy is not the same as a rotating captaincy.

I'd still choose Brucey to be up first.

I know a certain someone who would like to punch you in the schnoz...

You've narrowed it down to only one..?

You've narrowed it down to only one..?

You ain't popular are you?

I'm starting to get my own 'following' myself, too.

And I'm alot nicer than you...

Not fair.

And I say no to Bruce because he tosses the coin with his trackie dacks on.

Unacceptable behaviour from an MFC captain.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
