The very nature of the presentation on the MFC site as wel as the general wordings via BP et al seems to indicate its all but a Monty. Still be much better when ratified at some future date.

You cant help but salivate when considering our midfield of a few years time

Interesting to see he rates the draft class better than what we had in 09.

Obviously it was much discussed that the 09 class lacked depth and BP didn't qualify his statement, but I'm hoping that means Viney will be as good or better than JT or Scully.

I think..and can only suggest that BP leanings are that as opposed to earlier speculation that the draft would be somewhat dry this year as a result of GC and GWS that is twas actually more the case last year. I get the impression the draft pool is a bit deeper and more rounded than last. BP seems fairly assure that at least our first couple of picks will garner futher talent for the warehouse with indeed the possibililites of another gem slipping to our latter choices but dependent on what the various clubs go shopping for.

Mu understanding is we get to clain him (Viney )at next years draft not this. happy to be corrected if not the case. We might be able to nominate him much earlier under f/s but again the AFL has hinted as being a little fluid in this regard. just like Etihad the ground seems to move around certain issues !!

Viney looks to be the goods at this stage of his career. Much the same as Scully did when he was at a similar age. Presuming another club nominates that they would take him first round and MFC will have to use their first round pick, he still looks to be awesome value for what will probably be a high teens pick (given he may well be a top 5 or 10 player). I'm always a little sceptical about draft class and draft depth though considering so many gun players have actually been late picks.

Scully, Trengove, McKenzie, Gysberts, Viney, Blease, Tapscott, Moloney, Jones, Davey, Dunn, Sylvia, Jamar, Gawn. That's a midfield group capable of making anyone firm.

Then i think about.....

Watts, Jurrah, Petterd, Bennell, Bate, Morton, Green, Wona, Jetta, Fitzpatrick with some of those midfielders resting / rotating forward.

And..........

Frawley, Grimes, Garland, Bartram, Rivers, Warnock, Bail, Strauss again with some of those midfielders playing off half back.

And i'm more than a little excited without even looking at draft prosepects (Viney aside).

Patience and hard work to follow now.

I would imagine we'll see Jack start to step up nextyear and come into the seniors lineup at the Roosters... probably in the reserves mainly then maybe firsts depending on form and other committments ( school ) I can see him taking a very similar path to another of our Jacks

If he played U16 this year does that mean we are looking at the 2012 draft. Can we do what gold coast did with young Swallow, guarentee that we will pick him up, get him training with us playing for Casey so 2013 he has already been at the club for 12-18 months.

I don't believe so. Gold Coast operate under a different rule set than everyone else.

Whilst it would be good (obviously not going to happen), it will be even better to see how he handles himself next year knowing that there is going to be quite a bit of pressure on him to perform given the write ups he is getting this year. Scully was getting similar appraisal at u16 level and excelled being in the spot light.

Whilst I think you're right, I also believe Carlton have been able to "pre-select" Jimmy Buckley's son Dylan.

This is sort of bourne out of necessity though, as it is mainly being allowed so as to prevent GWS taking him in their batch of 17-year olds.

What is a little more interesting is that there is some scuttlebutt that they could move back before Jack's 1st season. If we commit early that could mean that he could train with us, time permitting of course.

great idea never thought of that, i am sure if the vineys move back before jacks first season jack will be playing for casey (if he joins us of course )

Not sure where Stevens got his information from but he intimated that the Dees would be doing a lot of work behind the scenes between now and then to try and make it happen (which included jokes of Schwabby arranging gift packages to be sent across to SA, etc). The crew then briefly discussed his alternative which would most likely be playing for Western Sydney and being based in Rooty Hill (where Blacktown Olympic Park is situated). That is interesting because I was under the impression that Mark Stevens had a direct line to one, Jim Stynes. Either Stynes has told him that is isn't a done deal due to the theory you explained or perhaps it is a little misdirection by the club to alleviate some pressure on the young fella. Or he got his info from somewhere else. Either way I am not fussed. I believe that we are well down the path to securing Jack but I guess these situations are fluid and anything can happen. For me, any news on Todd taking up a position in Victoria for season 2011 or 2012 will effectively seal the deal but I suspect we will know before then.

In saying all that I still take the view that if the Viney's decide the MFC is the best place for him then it is a bonus for us and nothing more. What we do with him once we (or 'if' for the less confident) get him is the important bit.

I heard that on TripleM and it was rubbish.

That's a very easy claim for Stevens to make without having to back it up.

My guess is that whoever he spoke to has said modestly that there is still a lot of work to do (as it is still year away) and Stevens has run a mile with it.

Honestly, if young Jack was still taking his time making a decision, just enjoying his footy & his life (as he should) how would he feel if it was being trumpeted in the media that we were sure we had him over the line?

I imagine he'd say "hang on a second" and be a bit put out by our presumptuousness.

Interesting stretch to an argument isnt it. Watts hasnt re-signed, therefore Watts MUST be going elsewhere

The suggestion that he's been advised to hold off for a period in order to better his stocks makes much more sense.
