NOT HAPPY, JAN!!!

Stinkin' Channel 7 have stolen the early game to televise today (Foxtel's coverage), instead of the 2pm game which they are supposed to show. Usually when this garbage happens, Foxtel shows the 2pm game on Main Event. Not today, folks!!!!

I am NOT impressed! Will have to content myself with audio feed of the game from one of the radio stations, via internet. Replay not until 7:30pm on Foxtel.

Did I happen to say I hate Channel 7 and their arrogant approach to their broadcast rights??!!!!!!

We deserve better!

Same rubbish in Canberra & Southern NSW. We get the Sydney game on free to air AND Foxtel at the same time.

What local game? It's Sydney vs North Melbourne.

Agree, it's pathetic. When similar nonsence occurred last year and the year before, I wrote to the AFL and the fta TV station expressing my frustration at this lunacy. Guess what? ...... no replies on either occasion! Hopeless!

That's disgraceful.

I can understand them putting the local game on FTA, but surely the dees would get a foxtel spot. What a joke

The Foxtel games are all allocated before the season starts. Ch.7 is at fault, and they couldn't care less!

Its a disgrace......

Channel 7 you have your schedules games to cover and should only been changed when you have to cover Lions games. Having foxtel is imperative in NSW & QLD to support your team but not even showing the game on main event is a shambles.

I'm in the same boat and sadly saw this coming. The sunday double-up has happened quite regularly throughout the season. The coverage to the northern states has definitely worsened since the last deal. It's pretty hard to justify maintaining foxtel when my wife wants to have her monthly 'budget chats' and I pull out the, "it's all about the Melbourne games" retort.

I can understand the problem when a Brisbane game is on Foxtel, and they double it up on Free-to-Air as well. It creates interest in the "local" team, which gives the game more coverage in a Rugby League dominated state. I don't see the problem showing the game that "misses out" on the main event/518 channel on Austar/Foxtel.

Today's games are Syd v Nth (1pm), Melb v Ess (2pm), Carl v WB (4pm). Channel 7 and Fox are sharing the 1st game, then Fox showing the twilight game. Channel 7 will be showing the V8's during our game, which is what they have to do because of the rights for that. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for our game not to be on Channel 7, and if, because of TV rights for other sports, this clashes with something else, it should be on either Channel 7two, or Main Event.

Again, the AFL need to be held responsible for this.

It also didn't happen when Channel 9 had the rights.......

Basically the networks swapped the broadcast when a Sydney game was scheduled on Foxtel so it would be seen on free to air in the host city.

This hasn't happened in the last four years or so, to any game on a Sunday that happens to clash with a Swans game.

Now we just get the same game twice  !!!

Not as bad, but why is the game on at 330 today on 7?

V8's.

Why do stations commit to two different sporting contracts, when they know that both events are on at the same time?!? At least when 10 had the V8's, they were smart enough to take the saturday games, so that they could put a good effort into both sports. The way 7 do it just means that the fans get a raw deal either way.

I couldn't believe it when I saw this in the paper. Watched 5 minutes of the Sydney match and fell asleep. Outrageous that ours is the only match not to be carried by any station live.

Well, I am in Thailand and the Australia Network (ABC Satellite)for most of this year, have shown the MCG Sunday game starting at 11:30am - 30min delay. But for some reason today, they have a bum sniffers Rugby League game on at 1:00pm - not even a major game like ours (Penrith Panstyers v Auckland Worriers)! Then at 3:00pm is the Carlton v Scraggers.

My only guess is, the programmers are from Sydeny or New Zollen???

Just had a look at the AFL website, all of our games until round 20 against Hawthorn will be shown live in Brisbane....

Unfortunately on that Sunday, the lions are playing as well....

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
