2008 national draft, and the Demons have the first crack at all available junior talent.

One kid stands head and shoulders above the rest in terms of pure ability, athleticism and potential. Its obvious that this kid has the capacity to wreak havoc on opposition sides like no player before him.

And for the record, that player is not Jack Watts.

Huge blunder by the MFC recruiting staff, and now the fans must suffer for the next decade.

Naitanuui, Scully, Trengove, Grimes.... the greatest starting centre set up in the history of the game. Multiple flags guaranteed through midfield dominance taken to a new level.

Too bad it can only be a dream.

Amazing what some conclusions amateurs will come to after one pre season game. Who did Essendon play in the ruck ?

Thats irrelevant.

Look at the tools the kid possesses.

Nobody will be able to stop him.

Naitanui played against Bock , who is a rookie ruckman. And Bellchambers who isn't a ruckman.

We'll see how he performs against a proper ruck outfit.

Sounds like someone needs their ego stroked

I was watchn the game last night and knew this thread would eventuate. I`m just a little surprised the great Y_M would return with such a naive post. I wouldve thought an uneducated schoolkid may have started this thread. Great to have you back nevertheless, you`ve been missed, seriously!!

Dont be mean Jaded.

I'll stop being mean when you stop polluting my brain.

I wasted a whole minute reading and then fighting the urge to reply to this nonsense, only to fail and spend another minute trying to control just how mean I was going to be to you.

As well as Naitanui played last night, he is still an average kick at this stage. He looks to handball at every opportunity because he has little confidence in his kicking..No doubt he's a terrific prospect, but Jack will be a star in his own right, and possibly better given 'TIME'...

Watts 'will' reach Riewoldt's level in time & clowns like you will be made to eat their words. He will be a premier KPF in 5 years time, but I guess that's too long for the goldfish brain crowd to wait..

Clueless Post...

I thought rubbish like this wouldn't continue this year. How silly of me...

Yze_Magic, you could fit the amount of football knowledge you have onto a savoury biscuit mate...and that's probably being generous.

No need for personal attacks.

Watts wont ever reach Riewoldts level. You can bookmark that.

I was the guy who supported Sylvia all the way through while every other MFC fan had given up on him.

And look how that turned out.

I will also be right with Naitanui/Watts.

Agreed.

Look at the bigger picture...you're dismissing an 18 year old after 3 games in which we were belted?

We would've been crazy to pick any other player than Watts in that draft, he dominated the under 18s.

Best of luck to Nic, I'm sure he'll be a fantastic player...maybe better than Jack. But far out, at least wait until Jack matures and has a few seasons under his belt before writing him off.

Nic Nat will be good, so will Watts...Time it will take with Watts..so i wont regret not picking up Nic Nat..Cause we got Jurrah who is just as athletic and exciting

YM, whilst I dont always, in this case I agree with you 100%.

Make no mistake, passing on naitinui will go down as one of the biggest draft blunders in the history of the game. He's like nothing the AFL has ever seen, and he hasn't even gotten started. Watts may end up being a good key forward, he may even end up being a great one - but naitinui will be a bona fide, sport changing legend. And we could have had him..

And by the way, I resent the statement about every other MFC fan going off sylvia! I was always behind him and proclaimed he would be a superstar, even through the 'bad' years - as older posts of mine will show ;)

I don't think going for Jack Watts over Nic Naitanui was a mistake. The simple fact is that one is from Victoria and the other from Western Australia. Imagine Naitanui got homesick? It would be a disaster. I also think Watts is incredibly talented and full of class. Melbourne could do with a player like that, someone with a hint of arrogance about them. What I really want to hear is that Watts is working hard. Naitanui clearly has really pushed himself over the pre-season and I felt really happy to see him perform.

We saw how he goes against a proper outfit when Jamar dismantled NicNat last year. I was embarrassed for him.

That said, he will be a gun...but who's to say Watts won't be as well?

Besides, with Spencer showing promise and Gawn a prospect, how many ruckmen do we want?

I agree. His performance against the Dees last year was farcical. It was great to see a kid work really hard and show his potential. That's what I want to see from Watts -- just working really hard and getting the best from his talent.

It's funny how short people's memories are..

Jamar, a 'mid-level' AFL ruckman absolutely destroyed Naitanui. It would have been truly embarrassing for Nic if he hadn't have been a 1st year player.

Funny how no one made a big deal of that..but apparently Watts is a hack after 3 AFL senior appearances, so go figure...

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
