Happy with this asl long as do soon and hopefully before Xmas. Assuming Jurrah takes 24 from Robbo there are 5 new players who need numbers - Fitzpatrick, Gawn, Gysberts, Tapscott and Joel MacD.

Plenty of available numbers including ones worn with distinction before - 1 (max walker, dick fenton-smith), 5 (several), 13 (yze), 17 (brett Lov), 35 (Don Williams) 45 (mattyW) also 28 and 38. Possible some others may be allocated lower numbers (Blease and Strauss)

blease will be in 17 next year. its a meaningful number to him

pesonally i'd like to see gawn in no. 1, macdonald in 28, tapscott in either 35 or 5, probably 35. i think it'll look good on his back and add some more distincton to the number. blease can and does have 17, fitzpatrick oughta be a higher number untill an appropriate number becomes available or one that suits, i somehow see gysberts in 13 maybe the year after next. number 5 should have a year off as well untill someone steps up or next years first round draft pick. just my personal peference for things. think those particular people suit those numbers. and warnock i htink looks alright in 37. he shouldn't change it.

Iva, we dont have a Trengrove on our list.

Really am sick of people getting names wrong = lazy.

We never had a Russell Robinson either, although, you would think half of the media didn't know that.

Please lets get it right now!

....nor a Ricky PettArd - emailed the ABC a few times on that very matter but didn't get the courtesy of a reply

Gawn could be 11, with one of the 1s above the other not side by side!!!

Gawn proudly told me he was 37, adding himself that it was Jim Stynes' first number. Matthew Warnock is taking No.1

Sweet.

Number 1 defender and I also like the idea of Gawn getting Jimmy's number. The act of researching the numbers before receiving them is a really nice and important touch.

Very few stones left unturned.

My stab at the unconfirmed:

1 Warnock

5 Spencer

13 Bennell

17 Blease

24 Jurrah *

28 Strauss

35 MacDonald

37 Gawn *

39 Tapscott

42 McKenzie

43 Healy

44 Fitzpatrick

45 Jetta

* = all but confirmed

no way could you give spencer 5. he's still a rookie

I think I'm the only person to think this way, but anyway...

A number is a number. When you come to the club, you are given a number. I don't understand why we need to have players continually changing around. Why does Warnock need to move from 37? Why did Jurrah, Wonaeamirri and Martin all change their numbers? Why do Blease and Strauss need to move?

If players are given high numbers when they first arrive at the club, they should keep them for their career. If the club doesn't like having star players wearing high numbers, they shouldn't give them out in the first place.

I can think of plenty of reasons why numbers shouldn't change, the least of which is it makes a little bit of confusion early on in the season when you can't see who's who because they've all changed their numbers from the previous season. But I can't think of one good reason why players need to change numbers.

Blease should stay 46 (or whatever he is). Jurrah should have stayed at 48, and I can't see any reason why we need to move Warnock from 37 to 1.

I can think of a good reason......BECAUSE THEY WANT TO.... athletes are very superstitious and they all have their favourite numbers that they feel better running around in. If they want a particular number....im sure we can put up with a little confusion for a round or two at the start of the season....

  • 2 weeks later...
When does the official list come out?

I want to buy my nephew a jumper and sew a new player's number on it so I need the official numbers.

That is a good question. I'm guessing, unless you talk to someone within the club "in the know", we will not know for some time. Probably until the commencement of the NAB Cup. (Month & 1/2 away). I'd either ask the club for the new player's number..., or sit it out and wait.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
