Demonland 74,425 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Certainty to be picked at 34 Quote
Brayshaws' Helmet 143 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 surprised he slid to 34 Quote
DeeSpencer 26,672 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Happy he is 2034cm tall well played! Quote
Nasher 33,684 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Happy he is 2034cm tall Wow, at that height, screw playing him in the ruck. Just have him stand in the defensive goal square, and when he stops every single goal from going through, just have him do a somersault the length of the ground with the ball and kick us a goal. But seriously yes, at 207 he is a serious man mountain. It's an interesting contrast with Fitzpatrick who appears to be an 'athletic' type. If both of them turn out to be good players they should make for a fairly tough to beat ruck combo. Unusual and interesting that we took two ruckmen in the national draft. Quote
Jaded No More 68,976 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Unusual and interesting that we took two ruckmen in the national draft. They noted that Fitzpatrick is more of a forward than a ruckman, but when you look at the state of our rucks at the moment, we're about 5 short. Quote
Carlos Danger 380 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Excited about the Gawn prospect, not expecting anything short term but hopefully in the next few years we have a Sandilands amongst us. Quote
sylvinator 96 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Excited about the Gawn prospect, not expecting anything short term but hopefully in the next few years we have a Sandilands amongst us. Interesting that we took 2 ruckman in a draft renowned to be shallow for rucks. However both these guyz are great value at 34 and 50 so definitely can't complain. At 34 and 50 you are always relatively speculative, so these guyz have huge potential. If one of these 2 become great afl players, we'll be happy Quote
Diablo Deemon 220 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Surprised he went before Vardy But Gawn is a project ruckmen who I don't expect a lot from until his 3rd or 4th season. He could dominate in the fashion of Sandilands and with a gun midfield around him we might be untouchable in the centre square. Quote

The dude on SEN who's the recruiting expert from the AIS was a massive fan of Gawn. Said he was tearing games apart b4 he did his knee. He rates him the best of the ruck. Fitzpatrick's got sub 3 sec speed. Not too shabby for a 200+cm. Can't complain for a pick 50. Quote

The Big Ticket 94 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Already 104kg's(?) He should be ready to go early on next year. Exciting prospect. Quote
joeboy 3,193 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Already 104kg's(?) He should be ready to go early on next year. Exciting prospect. Watch footage of him on You Tube and you'll be hugely impressed . He's a boy mountain , and obviously still growing , whilst his athleticism for one so tall is outstanding , as is his desire to put himself into a contest . I think we can feel as excited about this one as we do about our first two picked prodigies . Quote
RickyBobby 0 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Did a search on youtube for 'Max Gawn' and got this? WTF? Is this who we drafted, looks tall enough to be, what is he doing? Haha Anyway anyone got a link to footage of him playing football? Quote

Diablo Deemon 220 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Apparently has grown 8 cm in the Last year!!! Somebody check his Pituitary Gland Will enter the system as 2nd tallest player and will likely top Sandilands if he continues to grow this way Quote
BAMF 4,479 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Can somebody tell me why i always get redirected to the Aussie sports everytime i try to go to the bigpond links? Quote
Craig Drinker 179 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 In the words of Bill Lawry: "Got im". "Gawn! " Quote
Rhino Richards 1,467 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Already 104kg's(?) He should be ready to go early on next year. Exciting prospect. The Age had him at 97kgs but Bailey on SEN described Gawn as a big unit. At 17 he is in the wings and will be developed. He is still a kid and an apparently still growing one too. Quote
Clanger King 9 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Can anyone please convert the bigpond footage to youtube. For some reason it lags like a [censored]. Quote
spirit of norm smith 16,679 Posted September 11, 2021 Posted September 11, 2021 Best pick from the 2009 draft. Was supposed to the draft to setup premiership glory. $$$cully pick 1 Trengove pick 2 Gysberts pick 11 Tapscott pick 18 but it was the big guy with the knee reco at pick 34 that’s the golden selection from the 2009 draft. He has become the captain and current day superstar of the Melbourne Footy club. Out of all the wasted picks, Barry Prendergast at least got us big Max Gawn. 3 2 Quote

Yeah. Looks as if he could be OK sometime, but ruckmen aren’t really that important, are they? Only jump up in the middle and around the boundary, and offer very little other impact. 🙄🙄🤔 Quote
durango 2,024 Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 Gawn when he was made captain who ever made the decision got more than they expected when he took his game to another level and that is what captain do in finals and clutch moments of a game like his goal at Geelong in round 23. 1 Quote
whatwhat say what 23,853 Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 the best pick 34 ever? 1 Quote
