Happy he is 2034cm tall :o

Wow, at that height, screw playing him in the ruck. Just have him stand in the defensive goal square, and when he stops every single goal from going through, just have him do a somersault the length of the ground with the ball and kick us a goal.

But seriously yes, at 207 he is a serious man mountain. It's an interesting contrast with Fitzpatrick who appears to be an 'athletic' type. If both of them turn out to be good players they should make for a fairly tough to beat ruck combo.

Unusual and interesting that we took two ruckmen in the national draft.

They noted that Fitzpatrick is more of a forward than a ruckman, but when you look at the state of our rucks at the moment, we're about 5 short.

Excited about the Gawn prospect, not expecting anything short term but hopefully in the next few years we have a Sandilands amongst us.

Interesting that we took 2 ruckman in a draft renowned to be shallow for rucks.

However both these guyz are great value at 34 and 50 so definitely can't complain.

At 34 and 50 you are always relatively speculative, so these guyz have huge potential. If one of these 2 become great afl players, we'll be happy

Surprised he went before Vardy But Gawn is a project ruckmen who I don't expect a lot from

until his 3rd or 4th season. He could dominate in the fashion of Sandilands and with a gun midfield

around him we might be untouchable in the centre square.

The dude on SEN who's the recruiting expert from the AIS was a massive fan of Gawn.

Said he was tearing games apart b4 he did his knee. He rates him the best of the ruck.

Fitzpatrick's got sub 3 sec speed. Not too shabby for a 200+cm. Can't complain for a pick 50.

Fitzpatrick will be looked at out of the goal square...not a bad gambe at 50

Already 104kg's(?) He should be ready to go early on next year. Exciting prospect.

Watch footage of him on You Tube and you'll be hugely impressed .

He's a boy mountain , and obviously still growing , whilst his athleticism for one so tall is outstanding , as is his desire to put himself into a contest .

I think we can feel as excited about this one as we do about our first two picked prodigies .

Did a search on youtube for 'Max Gawn' and got this? WTF?

Is this who we drafted, looks tall enough to be, what is he doing? Haha

Anyway anyone got a link to footage of him playing football?

The Age had him at 97kgs but Bailey on SEN described Gawn as a big unit. At 17 he is in the wings and will be developed. He is still a kid and an apparently still growing one too.

Can anyone please convert the bigpond footage to youtube. For some reason it lags like a [censored].

Best pick from the 2009 draft.  Was supposed to the draft to setup premiership glory.

$$$cully pick 1

Trengove pick 2

Gysberts pick 11

Tapscott pick 18

but it was the big guy with the knee reco at pick 34 that’s the golden selection from the 2009 draft.

He has become the captain and current day superstar of the Melbourne Footy club.

Out of all the wasted picks, Barry Prendergast at least got us big Max Gawn.

Yeah. Looks as if he could be OK sometime, but ruckmen aren’t really that important, are they?   Only jump up in the middle and around the boundary, and offer very little other impact. 🙄🙄🤔

Gawn when he was made captain who ever made the decision got more than they expected when he took his game to another level and that is what captain do in finals and clutch moments of a game like his goal at Geelong in round 23.

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence.
