One the best written and most beautiful pieces you'll read in a newspaper.

I feel so personally connected to the characters weaved into the story but that's because it's real life and I think there's more to tell before this one ends.

The articles Martin Flanagan has written on Mfc in The Age this year have been a pleasure to read.

No ego or criticisms, only beautifully written observations of characters and places he has encounters while "attached" to our club.

The Age has really helped raise our profile with these regular pieces, I hope all Demonlanders have been taking advantage of the Mfc subscription offer where you get Friday - Mondays paper for bugger all.

There really is no comparison between the quality research and journalism from the Age writers in general and the crap served up by the tabloid alternative.

I hope Flanagan ges some recognition for his work. In the Age archives somewhere there is a brilliant piece he wrote on "Tiger' Crosswell a few years ago, worth a read if you can find it

I actually applaud Vlad for saying what he said. At the Time the club really was in no mans land, apart from us die hards.

Vlad saying that we stood for nothing actually woke the Demon up.

Yet another Gem of a read from Martin, his work has also helped get this club going as well.

Great article and that photo is really something special.

It seems that the more people learn about others, the more they learn about themselves. MFC has rightly broadened itself to a fundamental part of our game and indigenous culture. Good to see the club continually grow and the mutual respect shown between visitors and hosts just reinforces how much of an impact Liam makes on the people around him - "People are drawn to him" as Jimmy was reported to have said.

If you're in any doubts, get hold of his books, in particular '1970 and Other Stories of the Australian Game' , 'Faces in the Crowd' and 'Southern sky, Western Oval' (a truly great book about Footscray's struggle for survival).

As the blurb in 'Real Footy' says, Flanagan is "a great believer in the capacity of newspapers to act as vehicles for non-fiction story-telling." That's what he does brilliantly. In America great writers (not merely sportswriters but non-fiction authors) write about baseball. In England, they write about cricket. Flanagan's work is on a par with any of them.

This sort of chest beating tripe doesn't interest me in the slightest.

I am so excited about LJ and what he is bringing to our club. I think all of us were more than a little concerned about the go home factor for Liam and who could blame him if he ever did. But I reckon we can rest easy with regards to that now. There is an imbedded bond between the MFC and Liam`s community. It seems they are as grateful for the opportunity that we have given Liam, as we are that he is wearing our jumper and proud of it. Well done Dees, we took a punt when other clubs wouldn`t dare take such a risk (which it clearly was!). I`ll cry like a baby boy the day I see this bloke hold the Cup at the G when we when our first flag in nearly 50 years!
