Demons make further changes

Finally.

A strong statement from the club (almost insulting.)

MFC:

'Yeah, were still paying you, so we jiggled somethings around and found a spot for you out on the rookie list.

Someone else might decide to take a punt on you, if so - Good Luck and all the best - if not, you may as well hang around here and help out the Casey boys..'

Love it.

I don't see much in the way of deserving application from Newton.

He's still connected to the club, and that's, arguably, more than he deserves.

Agreed.

The mature-age rookie rule is fantastic and I'm glad we've taken full advantage of it.

I'd rather have picks 34 and 55/1 PSD available, than Newton and Meesen on the primary list.

Could this move (esp as far as Newton is concerned) have anything to do with Mitch Thorp training with us? The idea being that it makes it safer to take Thorp in the PSD, because we're not left high-&-dry if he gets injured (etc.) with Newton as a fallback option.

It frees up a spot on the list from a player MFC dont think will be a serious AFL consideration this year.

And could the Meesen move mean that we'll see Martin more in the ruck this year? Otherwise, our ruck stocks are really fragile with Jamar who was fit for only a handful of games in 2009, & PJ who's only for 'back-up' at best, then a 'true' rookie in Spencer and a 'pseudo-rookie' in Meesen who may now be on his way out. Especially because all 4 of their contracts will finsh at end 2010.

Either way Meesen was not the answer and was earmarked to go in 2010 regardless. He might not be the only one. Martin will get more time in the ruck regardless of the Meesen decision.

actually...how does it work if say Meesen gets picked up ? Would any subsequent contract simply make null and void ( by agreement ) the MFC one.. Do we have to pay the ( MFC ) contracted amount for the first year with pick up club topping up , if required ?

or are we simply off the hook with new club to sort it out ( highly unlikely but offer it up for discussion )

Has Anyone got an answer here?

Also, If they stay on the rookie list at the club for 2010, then we will have a very strong side at Casey Scorpions. Even without Valenti. Interesting to note that the 3 melboune listed players who played in the the 2009 final for the scorpions are now de-listed. Newton, Valenti, and Zomer.

personally I don't like this... I think Newton hasn't been given the opportunities he's deserved... Daniel Bell should count himself extremely lucky to still be on the senior list...

Bolded bit I agree with. Bell should consider himself lucky to still be on this list. As should PJ.

But the unbolded bit I disagree with. Newton's had his chance. Evidently the FD's seen enough.

Great result... I'm delighted we now have 7 picks in the main draft - although its disappointing that we have no scope to rookie a young tall

I will have to accept my two "list cloggers" ie Bartram on the main list and Hughes on the rookie list

You need to spend more time at the club then Hoopla -I'm sure you'll find the way to get Bartram and Hughes delisted. Maybe you can put your mongrel into Jack Watts!

Ugh.

I'm convinced DC, you're either: -

a) one who stalks hoopla and only answers to hoopla

or

B) perhaps you are indeed hoopla

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
