MELBOURNE

PICK 1: Jack Trengove 18

Sturt SA, midfielder 185cm 82kg

The perfect replacement for Brock McLean. Almost single-handedly got Sturt into SANFL grand final this year.

Mature and ready to go - theory is he will be taken at No.1 as he is better equipped to handle pressure.

PICK 2: Tom Scully 18

Dandenong Stingrays, midfielder, 182cm 74kg

Best player in the draft. Wins hard ball and runs just as hard. If Dees had one pick, he would be it. But after the expectation placed on Jack Watts last year, they might decide to shield the local boy a little and give him time to emerge.

PICK 11: Aaron Black 18

Peel Thunder, WA, key forward, 193cm 78kg

With two midfielders in the bank, the Dees will surely look for a tall to complement Watts. Would love to get Butcher, but he'll be gone. Black is a good athlete who has had an impact in WAFL.

OTHER PICKS: 18, 34, 50, 66

CLUB NEEDS: More quality kids. The Dees are solid in defence, but another key forward would be nice.

CLUBS SAYS: "Last year, the quality ran really deep. While we had the No. 1 pick, it was a particularly difficult decision that was made really, really late and I don't think it gave us a great competitive advantage over the first 10 picks in the draft.

This year's draft isn't as good as that. For us to have two of the first eight to 10 picks is a powerful position."

Cannot and will not debate the phantom drafts of any HUN journalist. Mark Stevens has no idea.

I'll wait for Emma Quayle's predictions.

Mark Stevens is just an awful journalist. With him, Robinson, and Anderson, there is such a low bar for thought at the Hun.

I share both your thoughts.

Why would the dees consider Aaron Black?

He's only 78kg, which is lighter than Morton and Watts. Why not get a KPP with a bigger body.

Although its the footy ability that matters, which i've never seen Black play.

Because there are no good big bodied players?

Black was compared to as tippet like and is praised due to his work rate.

Id be happy with him i think he'd be able to put some weight on and be a decent forward.

Hmm. Most of the phantom drafts on BF and other fan websites have us picking Black at 11 on a needs basis. Some seem to think he's more in the 18-30 range.

So have a look at the Aaron Black thread. You might answer your own question.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
