I think that's the plan for Valenti. We have selection number 1 in the rookie draft after all, so if he doesn't get picked up somewhere else then I'm sure we'd be delighted to have him around another year.

If he still doesn't quite break through to permanent AFL level, he'll be a great captain for Casey in a few years.

Do we? Or does the Gold Coast?

It shows a few things that won't surprise many: The fantastic seasons of Flash and Moloney. Warnock continues to be one our most valuable assets. Green, despite only 12 games, as consistent as ever. Johnson, Bartram, Miller and Newton's very average seasons.

It shows a few things that shouldn't surprise many, but seem to: The solid seasons of Bruce and Bate. Both seem highly underrated by many on here, in my opinion.

It shows a few things that will please everybody: The breakout season of Sylvia. The great debut (or close to) seasons of Jurrah and Grimes.

And, most obviously, and as already pointed out by some posters, it shows how valuable Jamar was when he managed to get onto the ground. Given our other ruck options, the value of a big-bodied, experienced ruckman who can also pinch-hit forward and is about to enter his prime years, should not be undersold. At least until Meesen or Spencer come on, we need to keep the Russian at all costs. I'm a bit disappointed that we only signed him for a year. Two would have been nicer.

Welcome aboard Cheesecake (a bit weird coming from me since you've been a member here longer than I have...). Nice work with the maths there.

Agree re: Bate. Doesn't get the kudos he deserves. Had a few bad games early, but for the most part he had a great year.

Secondly, I thought it would be interesting to rank Swapfox's list on B&F points per games played. Not sure if this will tabulate very well, but here goes ..

...

Valenti averaged 1.83 votes per game which is quite good.

Totally agree, Clint. One of my most respected Dees, is Valenti.

I left out those players no longer on our list, but he is definitely worth a mention.

Hopefully we may be considering re-rookie-ing him, as some have suggested (assuming we can do that, and he falls through the draft, of course). Though, I just can't see him surviving on our list beyond the next few years anyway, once our midfield fills up with the likes Scully, Trengove, Grimes and co. Maybe its for the best he is cut now, and maybe gets a chance with another side.

Thanks for the welcome, Titan. I won't be contributing much for now. But once exams are over, I reckon I will be.

Nice user name too. Definitely my favourite of all the Demonlanders. Can't help but let out a little chuckle every time I read one of your posts.

That would rank him on averages about 17th out of top 22.

Just got a text from a mate who was there apparently Brent Moloney acceptance speech: "there are great things happening and if you don't want to be here on this line then you can fack off to Carlton!"

I agree with Beamer, if McLean was not interested to turn his form around & wear the new "Blood Red" jumper it is his problem & a decision he will deeply regret in years to come.

It's October & our Boys are Pumped for 2010 already. I cannot remember such optimism so early before.

Martin Flanagan's Age Article on "Flash" Today was another Gem btw.

Brock McLean was not present on the night and was not mentioned at all - apart from Beamers comment. Simon Buckley was not there either.

It seems to be a regular occurrence for the winner of the Best Player in seconds (or now in VFL affiliate side) is a guarantee of getting delisted.

He did rock up but got distracted doing burnouts in Crowns car park

Pleased that Moloney made that comment and it shows IMO that Brock's desire to leave is very much an isolated case.

Did anyone tape that speech? :D

Also really glad that Frawley was recognised by the coaches. He's had a terrific season and deserved to be rewarded.

i went to the function only been 15.

the function is highly spirited and if you heard jimmy speak. you would have thought that we had just won the flag.

the attitude of the club is beyond thinkable.

my family donated 6K and that has won me a trip to adelaide with Vip box seats

IM LOVING MFC AT THE MOMENT

i was talking to bails last night. and lhe honestly said. if everything goes right. we can sncare a few teams. but becoz we dont have a lot of depth. 'if one thing coz wrong, it could all crumble'0

agree, frawley had an awesome year

I'm no expert on the ins and outs of rookies and promoted rookies... but for a while there it was fairly normal for a player to be delisted and then redrafted late in the draft a few weeks later... I think something to do with mandatory delistings or something. Is there any chance of this happening with Valenti? Maybe someone here can shed some light.

If it happens it won't be due to mandatory delistings - with Whelan, Wheatley and Robertson we'd already cut the required three.

Hi folks. Long time reader but new poster here. Love the site, but not as much as I love the Demons.

...and the award for best first post goes to Cheesecake :P

While his ranking was good, his average per match is lower than I thought it should be. The life of a defender...

I noticed that too, Rogue. I thought Chip would have polled higher. He was fantastic this year. Gave a few quality forwards a bath, that's for sure.

Does the Bluey suffer from Brownlow-disease? A midfielder's award?

True.

I expected him to finish top 4 to be honest.

It was a very tough year for defenders, and Warnock deservedly finished 5th, so I was surprised that Frawley didn't finish around that mark as well.

Very good point.

Past winners

Woewodin (2000)

Yze (2001)

Neitz (2002)

Robertson (2003)

White (2004)

Johnstone (2005)

McDonald (2006-07)

Bruce (2008)

Davey (2009)

Six of those are midfielders. I don't think we'll see a KPP win it for a while now, with the Mid's we've got coming through.

Another 2 votes and Frawley would have finished outright 5th...

He did finish 'around that mark.'

From Bate, 4th, to McDonald/Morton, =9th, was the grand total of 5 votes.

There were three standouts (Moloney, Davey, and Bruce) then a blanket could have been thrown over Bate, Jones, Warnock, Sylvia, Frawley, McDonald, Morton, McLean, and Rivers (8 votes). And that sounds about right to me (with apologies to Grimes).

I would have had Frawley in third place, or Bate in third and Frawley in fourth. But then I'm not really a Bruce fan, although the club clearly appreciates his role in the side.

Maybe Frawley didn't get more votes because he was really hindering our tanking process for a while! :o;)

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
