What have these players done for us not to honour their contracts?

Not develop? That's our fault.

They were never good enough? We picked them up in the first place.

Unless they are doing stupid things (Carroll) - honour their contracts.

Batram, Buckley, McNamara, and Cheney are the only ones that I know of that are OOC.

1, 2, 11 and PSD1 are priorities in my mind. Bruce on the VL (due to Robbo delisting), Whelan, Wheatley, and McLean out provide space for those picks.

1 has to go for Pick 18 - Batram

2 have to go for Pick 34 - Batram & Buckley

If Pick 34 is not considered as good a prospect as Buckley then don't use that pick. We don't have to use that pick.

Depending on how the medicos see Buckley's OP I would be prepared to forget about 34.

MFC wont be paying out any contracts unless there a serious behavioural breaches (eg Carroll).

You dont just pay out contracts willy nilly. Further if you pay out the contract, you pay out the contract and you have no future say in the player's future moves. Its a drastic step that wont happen.

More thought needed

maybe theres thought needed when contracting these type of players, your majesty.

We'd all love to have a crystal ball. We'd also love it if players happily signed 1 year contracts.

Unfortunately this is the real world.

in the real world mate, i wouldnt offer newton a 3yr contract, no matter how good that mark was.

PJ should be kept on the list because of our lack of experienced ruckmen. Meesen got injury problems, Martin is still very raw at playing in the ruck, Spencer is still developing in all aspects of the game and Jamar also has injury concerns. PJ is our second most experienced ruck and also is good insurance on the list considering what happened to Essendon's rucks.

I reckon delist Buckley and McNamara. Bartram should be given a chance, there's something about his game which appeals to me.

If we want to elevate one of Spencer and Valenti then Bartram will have to go. However I can't see Valenti staying at the Demons next year.

you wouldn't consider Cheney or McNamara for delisting?

McNamara has got promise as a utility, and Cheney is a neat kick, is courageous, and can take a mark, he gets lost a bit when picking up someone but had a solid 1st year of AFL.

Batram cannot kick and has limited awareness, I struggle to see him playing in our midfield next year. Run with roles can be given to other players as an exercise in development.

And Buckley's injuries worry me, as I'm sure, they do Simon and the club.

How many players can we have on the veterans list?

You can have up to 2, who are in practice rookies (off the main list) and half their salary is off the salary Cap;

However you can have more than 2. It just means the additional veterans take up a spot on the main list, but part of their salary is still outside the salary cap.

The reason for my question is why not redraft Robbo. He could be on the Veterran list and not affect the main list. If the draft this year is so thin wouldn't he be a better bet than the 5th Rookie.

I like you.

He doesn't exist, Nasher.

He's a fable concocted by a cunning criminal, preying on the ignorance and gullibility of a few lawmen who so desperately wanted to believe his beautiful lies and seductive stories.

Anyway...

You never said that to me...

That hurts...

Doesn't Cameron Bruce qualify for the VL? He is almost our highest paid player.

The Robbo issue has been done to death. Use the Forum Search engine for the arguments.

Wow...

(Don't be patronising, don't be patronising, don't be patronising...)

There is only space for McDonald and Bruce on the VL as Bruce will take Robertson's spot. Only 2 Vets outside the main list.

OK?

That's so close it almost scary. I never realised how apt my username was.

I am actually none other than...

Brian Taylor!

Ok, just kidding.

But you could be surprised if you knew who I was, especially in years to come.

Not necessarily as likeable as I may come across, at the very least :P

I have to ask this, but do you drink heavily before visiting Demonland?

Don't complain, it makes you more attractive...

I'm just kidding, and no I don't drink heavily at all.

I tell you what I do do before visiting Land...

I bring my A-Game.

Yeah!!

They've been moved to the "Previous Players" list.

I note that where the MFC website talks about the start of pre-season training and the players returning, that "Cale Morton, Jack Grimes, Stef Martin, Jake Spencer, Kyle Cheney, Jordie McKenzie and Shane Valenti were part of the first group that returned."

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe
