Hi everyone

Thought I'd post this clip for you all to look at - it's the last 5 minutes of the Prelim Final. Not a bad grab by young JT - think I can see him slotting in Round 1, 2010.

Yeah thanks KrazyJay, after reading your comments on this thread I'm now sitting down with a cup of tea to watch the final quarter.

Seriously, Trengove Scully Rising Star 2010 one two or what.

Good call there Jako. Here's another one for you - has any team ever got the trifecta in the Rising Star? I think J Watts might show a lot more next season. They will aim to get around 12-15 games out of him, just enough to get Rising Star votes.

Great to see the old demon workhorse Luke Norman sa coach of Sturt nowadays. Anyone else remember his last game for us, the fateful merger match against the Hawks where our coach decided he'd be a good matchup on Jason Dunstall at full back? Dunstall went on to kick his 100th that night, unsurprisingly...

PS - Isn't it great how footy comes full circle with former Demon Luke Norman coaching future Demon JT.

Just thought I would let you know that here in SA, the media has gone ape$hit about JT..... His performance was quite staggering IMO

On 5aa (sports show) Stephen Rowe started telling Graham Cornes how he thinks Trengove is as good as Gibbs, McLeod, Riccuito and Wanganeen were at that age.... Cornes' response was, "The bar has been raised, he is better than all those guys at that age, I would put him level with Nathan Buckley".... Not bad!! :)

Those two guys are Glenelg boys, through and through and were praising the kid like crazy!

Luke Norman (Sturt coach) was just on the news here in Adelaide and said that Trengove will be a 200+ game AFL player and that at the start of the year he was touted as a Top 10 prospect.... But now he is certain he will go 1 or 2.... Was pretty stoked that he would go to Melbourne ;)

Norman also said that Sturt is keeping Jack away from the media this week and that he is definately not going to be at the draft camp (obviously).... They just want him to concentrate on the GF on Sunday.... He said that he has a maturity he has never seen before in a young player and that his committment to the club on and off the track has been "phenomenal"

I knew it.... I knew he would come to us.... Thank you God!!!

Cameron Schwab on Twitter :

"Jack Trengove played the house down for Sturt today. That's got the twitterers twittering."

Hopefully this means the scouts were there to witness his display..... Got a great feeling he is ours!!

Cam also made an earlier statement whilst watching the TAC Cup GF

"Watching the TAC Cup GF. Anyone looking for confirmation of the value of choices 11, 18 and beyond should tune in. Bit of size as well."

:D

thats great news! hopefully that pretty much confirms we take him :)

what is the link for his twitter page?

Jack has said to me-

Has no preferences on where to go in the AFL, Just wants a crack at AFL footy.

I then asked him if the Dees picked him up would he have any temptation to go home like Scott Thompson did?

He answered-

if i got picked up i would love to be a one club player. there is no incentive at the moment for me to come back to adelaide. i can see myself settling down wherever i went next year. as long as i had a good group of friends at the club i went to, i could see myself staying there for my career.

So yeah thats for all the peeps worried about the Scott Thompson disease haha

your welcome :)

you spoke to Jack?? How? when? are you serious?

thats great news.. hopefully when he tells that to the melb selectors it will eliminate any doubts of him bailing!

Imagine that, top 4 in the Rising Star, lol.

Hello all, just thought id give another report on Mr Jackson Trengove, as i was at the game yesterday (Glenelg supporter) although the loss was less saddening by JT's performance. Ive seen a lot of great players come up through the ranks of the SANFL (Gibbs, Cooney, Griffen etc) and i truly believe that Trengove is the best out of all of them! He's got great disposal, good mark makes good decisions but i believe his best attribute is his ability to get the ball away while being tackled. Almost Gary Ablett like, hes extremely hard to tackle. He's a hard worker and was all over the ground yesterday! He's playing against men and hes matching them toe to toe. He's ability to stand up in a prelim and pretty much win the game for his club just shows how much talent this boy has. Next Sunday he'll be going for an SANFL cleansweep, Premierships in 19's, Reserves and now A Grade. The kid is contagious for success. I heard that the ABC commentary were giving a massive wrap saying he was like an Aston Martin, "smooth as silk" i believe was the phrase! After yesterday's performance, i think hes made the 2nd choice for the MFC quite easy. The kid is an absolute superstar and im sure Scully and JT will be favourites for Rising Star already!!

BRING ON NOVEMBER 27TH!!!!

at the 5:28 mark he shows a bit of pace too.. he loses the ball.. but a little burst of speed like that near the end of a grooling final is pretty impressive!!

My mate in Adelaide is very jealous... he follows the SANFL pretty closely and said Trengove is the best junior he's seen come through the system in the past decade... would take him every day of the week over Gibbs. It's fair to say we've certainly bombed out at the right time, we're about to pick up the 2 best mids of the past 8 years. :)

We're about to pick up 2 players with the best potencial to turn into top players in the last 8 years*

Sturt win!!! Trengove literally saved the day! OMFG!!

Sturt win. Trengove match saving mark.

Thanks for the reports Krazy Jay, Chelly & Co.

Give him pick 1

Not out of the question. He wasn't far behind Scully in the first place. Fair wrap from KJ's reports from the commentators.

We are in the midst of the most thorough rebuild by an AFL club in the draft era.

Trengrove looks highly promising. It would be very hard to pass him up at Picks 1 n' 2.

Very much excited at the thought of adding Scully and Trengove and Pick 11 and Pick 18 to our outstanding stocks of young talent. Just add experience, good coaching and a stable club and....

MFC PS13..14...15 anyone?

Cheers for the reports everyone

Hope you got that mess cleaned up KrazyJay  :D

Your wrist must be shot after all that, ..er, ..'typing'..

I'm thinking of starting a thread to put it to the older wise heads here to start comparing the way he moves and plays to other players we've all seen. For example, the whole Sylvia-Riccuito comparison from years ago... These comparisons make me laugh as time passes.

Oh, and with the Gibbs comparison, Gibbs is quite a bit taller isn't he? Not that it's necessarily a problem. Happy to be corrected.

I think Trengove from memory is about 184/5 cms. Don't think Gibbs is much taller.

Comparison, - pfff, I'd call Trengove a ruckrover.

I'd call Scully a rover.

Gibbs is 188cm and 84kg which makes him 3cm taller than Trengove although it's possible for him to grow a few cms yet.

FWIW Emma Quayle was asked for a comparison (on twitter) and said 'JT, not sure. Might sound weird but a few of the things he does - floating marks - reminds me of Hird. But he's a more pure mid'

On Scully 'TS is a bit like cousins just in terms of his gut running. He runs and runs and runs and is still going when all the others stop'

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
