As to those considering we wouldnt get what we think hes worth in a trade then that in itself in all reality does tell us what he's worth.. but arguably on the market and he as some suggest hes worth more to us fit and going than to others ( teams )

What I feel will start to occur next year is with the exit of some and introduction of others that the bar will be raised not only in expectations of theh varying groups.. forwards.mids etc... but the actual eforts and results should follow. As this bar is raised some players may be found wanting. Further hard questions will be asked if these 'expected' players dont come to the party.

I always thougth in recent times that Mclean would assume the job of midfield general, injury has crueled him.

Has he missed his chance...youd think at 23 he has plenty of time to reestablish himself. Perhaps as some astute suggest another (?) solid preseason will find him in good health and raring to go. He'll need to or others will assume his role..and he'll be floundering

Maclean had a disappointng season but he had an interrupted pre season due to his ankle injury. At his best he is a tough hard inside mid who can get the ball out to the ball carriers and is clearly in our best 22. Can't really see the point in trading him. They don't actually award the flag to the team with the most high draft picks. You need enough experienced match hardened bodies to win a flag. I'd back him to have a full pre season and get his running ability back thus enabling him to get back to his best and be one of those experienced match hardened bodies in the 22 for MFCPS13.

Mcleans no where near peaking yet, we haven't seen the best of him.

Personally I think Brocks been carrying some kind of injury throughout the majority of the season (aside from that knee injury).. when fit hes definately a required player.

Smart move by the club though to reduce his wages until he starts improving.

Teams need to run 8 deep in the midfield and if Brock and Jones are 7 & 8 in the future then we will be looking good...

On a sidenote: Hutchy also mentions that we are leaning toward Trengrove with Pick 2.. nothing new there.

i reckon the call about injuries and form are fair. Look at his output this season compared to past seasons, his level of influence has clearly fallen this season, and he looks like a snail out on the field (injury?) , hence the "club's" decision to give him a pay cut.

Over his past contracted period, three years, Brocks injuries and form have curtailed his appearances and limited his output. And if he was not carrying an injury (I am not sure of this) during those 19 games this year then he is dreaming if he thinks he is likely to maintain or increase his pay on the current contract.

His negotiations and the outcomes will be interesting to watch.

the club stated through out the year that Brock had an interupted pre-season. of course this will effect his performance. he did'nt have the base fitness that everyone else had. wait till next year, he will star with scully, trengove, blease and strauss around him.

As much as he can be a annoying hes pretty good at his job.

Hes the one of the last players we should be worried about on our list. He gives his all.. he might not be the quickest but he loves a contest...

He had a slow start ot the year, but his midseason form was really good including a career best 36 possies against the Bulldogs, Got injured in Round 16 and after a lay off never go going again. I think if we weren't so decimated by injuries at that point he would have been rested longer.

Preseasons are crucial these days, Hawthorn are case and point.

He's a good ordinary footballer - but he over-rates himself. Too many supporters remember that stand-out final against St Kilda. He hasn't kicked on since then

It's been an ordinary year for Mclean by the standards we hope for, with a few genuine poor games. Still, he did show several times that he still has the will for it, and can deliver quality, tough football. Given the next couple of years will see us still have space in the salary cap, I'd suggest we would be well advised to put him on a perfomance contract of some sort - it's a better option for him than simply a pay cut, given that he'd have to back himself to lift again once clear of injury niggles, and it's a better option for the club because it means that they wont find themselves paying for non-delivery, and puts downward pressure on overall salary expectations.

I'd be filthy if we traded Brock out, though. Those hard bodies and relentless efforts from the likes of Mclean, Moloney and Jones, will be priceless in the 2011-2018 finals. Slick runners can only do so much.

really in 2 minds about Brock.

I think he is our best reader of the play of the on-ballers and a natural old fashioned footballer with a huge ticker.

Yet at stages this season he just has not been up to AFL standard. I am positive he must have been jabbed in a few games as his kicking went from very good to woeful at times.

I think up until this year, he has been a valuable link man and would look good with some pace around him. almost a Scott Burns type for his career.

I hope he improves on this year as the game looked to pass him by at times. I can only assume the lack of fitness and injuries taking their toll as he has never been this bad.

Here is hoping.

A good pre-season and he'll be right, but if he continues to carry niggles and doesn't get the best out of himself again next year - he will be in trouble, imo..

What it shows us is how far this club has to improve. Brock had a terrible year, & i say that with no direspect. He just did.

His pace on the MCG is just not up to the level. Next year is make or break for mine.

Yeah, let's trade a devoted club man and required inside midfielder, plus a high pick in the last draft before Gold Coast and West Sydney come plundering, and pay twice as much money as the player going out, for a frick'n overrated mercenary who'll be 30 when we're supposed to be peaking.

Keeping Brock Mclean and getting Shaun Burgoyne are at the opposite extremes of my priorities.
