Does anyone know how did Trengove go for Sturt on the weekend?

From the THE PROTÉGÉ II thread yesterday:

In news just in, Jack Trengove played another good game in the SANFL qualifying final game which the SA two blues Sturt narrowly lost. Kicked a couple of goals and impressed all the good judges.

Assuming he comes to the club, we should, as supporters, have a nice big campaign to make the commentators get his name right. Along with Petterds. While we're at it is it Chainy or Cheeny (as in Cheesy)?

Continuing with the off-topic stuff, at the same time, we could also get the commentators to learn that it's Aaron Davey, not Daveys.

I notice he's back in the Sturt seniors this week. The game is being played tonight, will be interesting to see how he goes.

Hes been in the Sturt senior side since the U/18 carnival.the only time he didnt play was when he went back to his school side for 1 game.He went ok in the game against Central who are the reigning premiers. Was tagged by Paul Thomas whos Centrals captain & was at Essendon. He kicked a few goals & 1 was a ripper from on the run on the boundary about 45 out.Had around 20 touches i think.Has been averaging over 20 touches a game the last few weeks & kicks goals every week, has also been named in the best quiet a few times

Yeh i think im finally set on Trengove as our pick 2.

Seems a very special player that you just cant let slip and i know for a fact home sickness will not be a problem with this bloke at all.

The only thing is someone is going to have to go! I just dont see how all these players we have can be all given the oppurtunity to show their worth.

Ive said it before i think Jones may be the unlucky one and yes that may seem crazy as he had his best season for us but i just dont see how you can have Brock/Moloney and Jones with Sylvia also starting to excel in the mid then you have Bruce, Green ( who will probably play up forward), Morton, Grimes, Jetta and the untried but i think a big part of the future - Blease and Strauss.

I think we will see a tough decision that has to be made in trade week and some people wont be too happy about it but i think will need to be done out of necessity. But yeah ONLY my opinion which does not count for much.

The more i think about it also does people think Davey might be asked to play HF or F role again next year. The forward line is obviously quite inexperienced but this is how i see it maybe working-

Bate Miller Davey

Watts Jurrah Wonna

With Green playing a lot up forward too?

Reminds me of Cotchin, so composed and silky.

Good on both sides by the look of it too.. nice goal on the left..

reminded me of Morts, but with muscle! ;)

commentators really talked him up too.

Wonder if the the person that put up those highlights will put up a Trenny highlights package?

I keep thinking Michael Voss. Just that strength overhead and in the contest, and the ability to lift his game when the contest is red hot. That's just an invaluable ablility, especially come finals time.

How do you know for a fact homesickness will not be a problem with any player from interstate?

How do you know homesickness won't be a problem for a player from Warrnambool?

How do you know another player won't in 2 years' time decide he wants to go to GWS18 cos the money's good and he once had a nice holiday in Sydney?

Stupid question.

You can't let this decision be made based on irrational fear.

Yeh me too mate, has a great head on his shoulders! Very mature and has leader written all over him.

But like ive said if we go Trengove and Scully, someone current has to be traded, even if that player is one of our best current midfielders.

Scully and Trengove if have a good preseason they should BOTH be playing round 1!!!

Mousey very excited by the prospect of Trengove and Scully in the guts for the next decade or so. Whilst I hate to say it, I agree with you that if we had to let someone from the midfield bracket go, Jones would probably be my first choice also. I see Sylvia, Jetta, and Davey playing longer periods next year up forward on the HF or FF line and being much more versatile than Jones. Regarding you're comment on Davey, I tend to see him next year being used in his current role this year across the H/B line as a general (in the mould of Hodge) who can spent more time next year as a "resting" forward.

I think that during his "resting" periods in the forward line, we're more likely to see Wonna and Sylvia pushed into the midfield, providing that Wonna can get over his injuries.

Whilst I'd suggest that Brock, Moloney and Jones all have "less" flexible playing options, both Moloney and Brock are finally getting over their injuries and I would argue that both have far better upsides and attacking potential than Jones. I also think we will see Green play up forward full time next year, probably as a leading forward from the pocket/square.

For what its worth I see Morton, Strauss (and also Bennell) spending the majority of their time next year on the half back flank (with very little time in the midfield) as running defenders in the mould of Gilbee, McLeod and the Shaws, with support (and advice) across the HB during the year coming from McDonald, Bruce and Davey.

I'd like to see the forward line developed along the lines of:

Sylvia/Davey Bate Jurrah

Watts Green Wonna/Maric

With the intention that Green be used to take the pressure of Watts and assist with his development.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
