If that were the draft, it'd mean we could take Panos, with our third pick. I'd be very happy with that.

If we are able to pick up all of Scully, Trengove and Panos in the draft, it would be quite a coup for our club, as it would address both areas in which we need quality players. With McNamara hopefully coming on, this also adds another KPD to the list allowing us to free up one of them to go forward.

One can only hope that this will come to pass.

I can understand Melbourne's intentions of going tall at pick 18, if they elect Scully, Trengove for 1 & 2.

All pending of course 'if" we end up with 1,2,18. Which at this stage looks likely.

Colyer is lightening quick - Boomer Harvey in stature, but plays a bit more like Marc Murphy (but not as polished).

However, I think he'll drop a bit with his kicking skills and height (175 cms) so will be a 2nd round pick IMHO.

I get the feeling though that he may be selected on need, and not abillity.

True - but Hamish Hartlett nor Bryce Gibbs are speed demons, yet they find space for themself when in traffic.

Trengove isn't exactly slow either - he was just up against Sculley who is quicker in bursts than most - and can find his opponent 2 metres behind him over the first 5 steps.

193cm seems to be the most up to date number I can find. That's roughly 3cm shorter than Watts.

Certainly hope so. But who really knows or can identify one who slides. It seems that after the draft, clubs or analysts declare who has slided or not depending on a particular evaluation taken before the draft.

Any club would be happy to declare their 2nd or 3rd round pick was a great pick up, declaring their new draftee was an absolute "pick up" because they were a "slider" on their own internal assessment. Good for marketing and promoting their new recruits.

In any case, I know what you're getting at.

With respect to this, and without trying to sound like a "know-it-all"

be mindfull of the player that slides - and don't get caught up in the "big footy expert" hype.

A classic example of this is Essendon supporters rejoicing that Leroy Jetta made it all the way to their Pick #18

Could we trade a player or two for a top 15 pick possibly? I think our list may be a bit cluttered with players who are similiar or wont cut it in our best 22 with all these youngsters coming on. Eg. Bate, Maric etc.

I think being the last unaffected draft means that not many clubs will be willing to trade for early picks.

It would be my thoughts that a trade of this nature may be a chance next year? With the GC looking for a bit of experience. Sure Bate/Maric might not fetch a top 15 pick, but either a big year or another player for might sweeten the deal.

So i.e. (and I'm not condoning the trade of Bate) Bate + Our Pick 10 = GC Pick 5 to us (or something of that nature?)

Some basic descriptions of some of the guys we've been talking about, so everyone is on the same page, courtesy the 'Under-18 eye-catchers' reports of Jason Mcartney during the championships.

Matthew Panos – Kicked three goals playing at centre half-forward. He took eight marks, including three contested, and had two scoring assists. Matthew has strong hands and presented well all day. His finishing in front of goal was exceptional and he also has good acceleration. He was hard to stop on the lead.

Jack Trengove – Jack is the South Australian captain. He was outstanding with 31 disposals, 13 contested possessions, six tackles, eight clearances and six inside 50s. He's got a mature body, kicks the ball well, is well balanced and makes good decisions. Jack played in the midfield and as a lead-up half-forward. He loves a contest and was ferocious with his attack on the footy.

Tom Scully – Was best-on-ground. He has a fantastic work-rate and when others were starting to tire, he was still working and running. Early on, he wasn't as clean as what he normally is, but he settled in pretty quickly. His hands in close were unbelievable – they were lightning and able to find teammates in space. Tom finished with four clearances and 33 disposals, including 23 handballs. He hardly missed a target with his hands.

Now, given that we are contractually obliged to select one NT player every draft, here's a couple of troppo prospects we might look at second round or later if we're lucky.

Troy Taylor – No relation to teammate Mitch, he wears the lime green boots and plays like someone who wears lime green boots. He has got some Daniel Motlop about him. He is brilliantly quick on the lead and can take some spectacular marks and kick some great goals. He's got the bells and whistles and it's exciting when it gets in his area. He has some great natural talent. He has kicked six goals from three games.

Roland Ah Chee - Roland had 33 disposals, 11 marks, five clearances and six hard-ball gets. He pretty much did everything. I've seen Roland play at under 16s level and in last year's under 18 champs. He looks like he's got himself a lot fitter this year, as his work-rate against Tassie was outstanding. Roland really willed himself on to the contest. He has debuted this year in the SANFL and has been consistent at reserves level. Roland was also a very talented tennis player.

If there's one thing that the TAC Future Stars Phantom Draft did, it's reassure me that there will be a good few options available at our second round pick, and that trading a player and pick 33(ish) for a higher pick would be a good call. (I.e. Miller to Sydney, they'll love eachother!)

I think Scully and Morabito are the standouts, not Trengove. Trengove is a well-rounded player that does everything well but Morabito has X factor, pace, match-winning capabilities that Trengove can't match. Trengove reminds me of Bryce Gibbs who whilst is a great player, is no match winner at this stage.

At one stage I had him at #6.

I think looking closer at it - he is far more superior player (or more rounded) player than those who I had ranked above him.

At times watching him in the SANFL - I thought he was "a boring footballer" - ie. one that is good at everything, but doesn't really standout in one area.

However, I think that Scully asside - Trengove is the complete package - reliable, good disposal, doesnt shirk the issue, has football smarts, will be a future Captain.

I really liked Rohan from the carnival too. He seemed to have flair in abundance, the lack of which is my one (admittedly slight) concern about Trengove. But looking at the TAC reports he doesn't seem to be anywhere much. Has he been injured? Or playing a lot for his school like Scully?

I know you have been touting these 3 from day 1, as have alot of others incl. me (although I did have Rohan up there on the same line as Morabito).

Think there's less risk with the first option as the go home factor wont play into it as Jetta will at least be over here with his cousin and the other two players are Victorian?
