6. Bate - easily our best

5. Jones - never stopped

4. Sylvia - looks good off half-back

3. McNamara - good first up

2. McDonald - tried hard

1. Martin - if only he could kick

2. McDonald

Thought his disposal and decision making was pretty bad, but as per usual he runs himself into the ground. Much respect to him

6. Bate (are we making a mistake by forcing him to play as a key forward?)

5. Sylvia (loved him off the half back line)

4. Jones (great kicking today. Lowered his eyes and hit players on the chest)

3. Valenti (fantastic ball winning in the first half. Disposal very ordinary)

2. Petterd (disposal still killing him)

1. Frawley (keeps on impressing)

Negative votes to PJ, Newton and Miller.

I have a lot of time for Miller but his kicking is below average and it's hurting the team.

PJ and Newton are great tanking weapons, but I think I speak for us all when I say, we've suffered enough!

Edit: I forgot to add something that I feel very strongly about... encouragement votes for Spencer. I know his attempt at goal went horribly wrong, and I felt horrible for him because he did quite well in the ruck all day. There is little doubt in my mind that he'll get a permanent place on our senior list next year and will develop into a very handy ruckman for us. Hopefully he won't feel too dejected after that shot on goal!

6 - Bate. Good game. Very few mates today.

5 - Jones. Worked as hard as ever, and turned it over less today.

4 - McDonald. Typical Junior (including 'average' disposal).

3 - Sylvia. Flashed in and out, but did a few nice things.

2 - McNamara. Made some defensive errors (inexperience) but generally sound debut, with impressive ball

use. If he can build on that effort over the next few weeks, he's probably a 'keeper'.

1 - Petterd. Worked hard, but prefer up forward.

Also happy with the improvement being shown by Dunn who in recent weeks has demonstrated that he is not a completely lost cause, and Martin, who has demonstrated he may have what it takes to succeed as a forward.

Bonus points to Paul Johnson who managed to have a lot of us, including at the club, completely duped in to thinking he might be able to play. He's not a ruckman, he's just a crap midfielder.

Too late again, but this is how I would have voted:

6 - Bate

5 - Valenti

4 - Jones

3 - McNamara

2 - Petterd

1 - Frawley

McNamara's kicking makes him an automatic selection for the rest of the year.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
