will the afl take away our PP?

Their is no doubting the growing chorus of football coaches, players, commentators, analysts and supporters who want to get rid of the PP. Michael Voss the most recent.

Certainly the AFL will have to eventually bow to public pressure and change the PP system, or even take away the PP.

Maybe i'm being paranoid, but could the AFL change the PP system before this year's draft, leaving us with no PP even if we qualify for it?

This would be grossly unfair, but with every day mounting more and more pressure on the afl to get rid of PP, it seems a worrying possibility!

Please someone tell me that i'm being paranoid and this could not happen. Surely any change to the system would have to happen after this season?

I think you're being (justifiably)paranoid. Surely even Vlad couldn't change the rules midstream. I don 't think so!

Won't happen.

And even if it was tried - we have an army of high priced lawyers as supporters who would give their time to make sure it didn't happen.

Maybe....No problem with the rule change in 2010, but they'd better wait until after we've got Scully! :P

Nope they can't change the rules for this years draft. It can't be proved we tanked. I bet Adrian Anderson will be chatting to dean this week though. I have noticed that Mick Malthouse has had his say on some of our moves yesterday. Everyone will be watching us this week though.

If the AFL took away the PP for this year it'd be giving support to those who suggest AFL teams do 'tank' games.

There's no way the AFL would do this.

Einstein, I thought you were going to go with some Franky goes to Hollywood.

They won't change the PP for a very long time, not while they are about build the Gold Coast, West Sydney and Sydney look shaky. Once those clubs start to stand on their own 2 feet then it will change. The Swans have been up for a long time and won a premiership this year has proven how quickly Sydney supporters jump off their team. The priority system works and they won't want these clubs on the bottom for too long.

Nice one. How do you find those clip things, did you just do a search on you tube for that or have you seen it before?

Would they accept other sides stealing draft picks off their beloved GC?

Yeh, I've been wondering about that, what happens if, say, Freo wins 4 games this year and next - do they get pick 2 in the GC draft? If somebody could clear that up, it would be appreciated.

For the 863rd time... there will be no priority picks for at least the next 2 seasons... (I can't remember if its 2 or 3...)

I think the AFL should say now that we can definitely have the Number 1 pick, and then they can have a pre season to think about a new system. Then Melbourne can go back to winning games knowing that we have the pick secured. I think it will work best this way.

You're answer to a corrupt system is to corrupt the system?

This will not work.

It'll be over this Sunday one way or the other...

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
