Something about Jurrah that I never expected

To me, the ABSOLUTE best thing of all about Liam Jurrah is that it seems to me that he could never ever be tempted away to another club, a la Chris Johnson or Chris Judd, by the lure of more money or better facilities.

The only thing that I think could threaten his loyalty to us would be if an AFL team was to set up in Yuendumu... which won't be happening soon.

He is truly a man who plays for the love of the game and for the jumper and his mates.

I think we can thank Nathan Carroll for our new cult hero!

Not really, we wanted him gone. Whereas, Johnson wanted to leave.

Jurrah is certainly the most exciting player since Jeffery Farmer was in a Melbourne jumper, but has far, far greater upside than the Wiz. As Einstein mentioned, it's Jurrah's footy brain that is so impressive. He seems to have everything and whenever he's on the ground, I'm more excited. I expect something to happen. I can't remember a more exciting player wearing a Melbourne jumper. Not in my life time.

Having young indegenous guys like Davey, Wona, Jetta and Bennell would also play a big factor in that you'd think. Would make adjusting to the big smoke that much easier for Liam. You'd think it would be a lot harder for him if he didn't have those boys at the club, especially Aaron as a 'big-brother' figure.

And in terms of career context, especially with the latter three, all being around the same age, it's fair to say that if all goes to plan, they'll be developing and playing the majority of their AFL careers together.

What about that tap back over his head when the ball was about to go over the boundary line, towards Bennel?. It wasn't right on the mark and Bennel? fumbled it, but the way that it was done was brilliant; pure instinct!

Yeah, it was superb. It was Aaron, not JB though. :)

Rudeboy, I hear that you are Collingwood supporter. Well this would be unprecedented, but I think we should make you an honorary Demon.

RudeBoy's heart beats for Liam. Perhaps one day it may beat true for the Red & Blue.

I hope not. One should never change their allegiances.

True.

I never thought the day would come, but I definitely have 2 teams to follow now. However, my admiration for Liam is such that I would love nothing more than for him to kick the winning goal against the Pies next year!

You would never be alone in that thinking :rolleyes:

I don't want to get you all too excited, but he ain't even fit yet. He's never done a pre-season. Give him 5 more kilos of muscle and a bigger tank, he'll be absolutely unstoppable.

You've been spot-on with all of your comments about Liam so far RudeBoy, so I'm certainly not going to start doubting you now!! It been a very long time since we've had a true champion of the game playing the Melbourne Football Club, but I am starting to get my hopes up about the emergence of another one.

i know im boosting junior out of a jumper for next year, but what number can we annoit the cougar with next year??

As I said in another post - don't tempt fate! If I recall correctly, the previous bombshells to arrive on the scene with #48 were Darren Cuthbetson and Brent Grgic. Both arrived with a bang; both wore #48; and both changed to a single digit number. End of story for both of them. Seemed like cutting their numbers was the footy equivalent of Samson cutting his hair.

Make #48 your own Liam!

p.s

This is actually where the likes of Liam etc can do wonders.. Imagine Jurrah etc taking a few clinics with the schoolies. Just nned the MFC bandwagon in the carpark with showbags etc. ;)

Forget the "Cougar ", forget the "Walpiri wizard", after that mark he is more the "Octopus"! :D

even Lethal gives kid a huge rap..[Jurrah.."a natural born thriller" :)When a player is his best coach..

Robert Walls also has Liam's one hander against the Kitties as the mark of the week..as Bruce would say..this kid's Spppeccccialllllllllllllllllllllllll :)

BT supposedly looked down the barrel of the camera and pleaded for MFC not to try and change this bloke and to just let him play the game.

Great to see a Melbourne player getting all across the community excited and good focus upon the mighty Dee's!

If someones got access to some good highlights of Liam they might consider putting them to that lil ol song of Suzie Q's !!!! you know..48 crash :D

well weve been crying out for that X factor excitment machine.. I think he's here !!!!!! :) and he'll probably only get better

That mark was also given Mark of the Week on The Winners by Wayne Wussell.

"Maybe he is simply a freakish talent, but if nothing else he is living proof that recruiting ability is much better than developing it."

Does anyone really believe we shouldn't "list manage/tank"

You've been on the mark time and time again Rudeboy.

I remember you saying before Liam had played his first game for the Dees, that if we thought he was good at VFL level, he'll only be better in the AFL against better opposition, that he would rise to the occasion. Right again. He looks so much better than he even looked when playing for Casey, which was pretty good in itself. He's so much better than I think most of us even hoped for.

The sky is the limit.

You would know probably better than most Rudeboy, but are there any aspects of his game that you would currently consider he is deficient in? Where do you feel he needs the work other than generally developing his tank and strength conditioning?

I'd like to possibly hear something critical about him, even if it's just so I know he is actually human. :P

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
